Do you "get ready" every day

If you're staying in all day, do you still get up and do hair and makeup (I don't mean done up to the nines) or do you not bother? Are you always ready to face the world or do you only "get ready" if you're leaving the house?

No not if I’m not going anywhere why would I put make up on to sit in the house and sometimes I brush my hair sometimes not. I brush teeth and do my face though
If I don’t go out then I shower in the evening rather the the morning as I like going to bed clean

Despairsquid11 · 09/05/2026 17:28

Hmm. I wouldn’t ever not go out anywhere all day unless I was ill. Even just a walk round the block, I can’t stay in the house all day or I’d feel claustrophobic and I wouldn’t get enough exercise to sleep.
So yes, I always shower, skin care etc. I normally wear a bit of make up, only takes a few minutes so yes I’ll do that every day unless I’m going for a swim or something like that when I obviously won’t bother.

CloudyBayPlease · 09/05/2026 17:29

I only do hair and make up for work or socialising.

Today I’ve been to the gym and M&S Food. I had a shower, brushed teeth, moisturised face and body. I’m lucky that I have long curly hair which stays looking good for several days post washing and drying.

Anjelika · 09/05/2026 17:31

I shower first thing every morning and always put make-up on (the same routine regardless of where I'm going). That way I'm "done" for the day and if I have to go out I don't need to make a lot more effort. If I'm WFH I wear gym gear and tie my hair back as I always exercise at lunchime. If I'm going into the office I will do my hair properly - either straighten, curl or a messy bun. At the weekend it will depend entirely on what I'm doing but even if just planning to stay in all day I'll get showered and put make-up on in case I need to pop out.

Butterme · 09/05/2026 17:49

No way!!

I get ‘done up’ whenever I go out anywhere unless I’m literally only going to the gym or walk/run but usually I do those things on the days I’m already out (which is most days).

But if I have a day at home then no way do I waste make up or do my hair apart from shoving it in a bun.

If I know I’ve got a free day coming up, I will literally do everything on the other days just so I don’t have to go out on my free day - partly so I can just relax at home and partly so I don’t have to put on any make up.

Corknut · 09/05/2026 17:53

Every day even if I’ve no plans. If I don’t it triggers my adhd as I’m ’not ready’ and therefore I can’t possibly start to do anything! I then descend into madness if some sort.

TT4eva82 · 09/05/2026 17:54

Yes I do hair and makeup everyday because I hate how I look/feel without it. It takes me 10/15 minutes. Whereas if I were on a night out it’d take me an hour.

IceStationZebra · 09/05/2026 17:55

There are no days when I don’t leave the house unless I’m debilitatingly ill, but my level of kempt-ness varies depending on what I’m up to.

EssaDiTractor96 · 09/05/2026 17:58

When I stay at home / potter about town with no big plans, it's perfume, cashmere/silk top and home jeans, sometimes mascara and eyebrow pencil (the last two take less than a minute).

I have huge red curly (smooth curls) hair, which is well-behaved / the same day in, day out, so may pin it back or leave as is. It weirdly always makes me look 'done' as long as the rest of me is neat and tidy.

bugalugs45 · 09/05/2026 17:59

I always shower and get dressed no matter what , but don’t wear make up and ‘do’ my hair on regular basis anyway so no different

TheBlueKoala · 09/05/2026 18:02

Don't even "get ready" for going out if that involvs makeup and fixing hair. I used to care a bit more but now at 46 I just brush my hair and put sunscreen on. Would feel ridiculous to fix me up for just going out the door or worse staying at home. I make an effort for special occasions and that's it.

KatharinaRosalie · 09/05/2026 18:13

No, but I put a lot of effort into skin care, so don't need concealer or foundation, and have tattoo eyeliner and eyebrows.

Vivienne1000 · 09/05/2026 18:15

That’s one of the advantages of going to work I love clothes, so I get to choose my outfit every morning. I couldn’t justify all my clothes if I stayed at home.

tinyspiny · 09/05/2026 15:40

I never wear make up and haven’t since I was about 25 , so getting ready for me after a shower is brushing my hair . I’m very low maintenance .

Ha me too. Never wore makeup. Shower and wash hair every day. I’ll only blow dry it if I’m going out and that’s only for quickness. I guess I’m just confident in my skin,

SpaDaysForAll · 09/05/2026 19:15

I like getting up, having a shower and putting on some nice clothes. Helps me feel human.

MrsClattenburg · 09/05/2026 19:20

Yes, always have minimal make up on as I always leave the house at some point. I'd go mad if I literally didn't get of the front door at all at least once a day 😬

MrsClattenburg · 09/05/2026 19:22

awfulapril · 09/05/2026 16:29

Always, did the same during lockdown. Never succumbed to track pants.

I do like leggings or a pair of joggers but even in lockdown, I'd iron everything - cannot stand creased clothes!

RampantIvy · 09/05/2026 19:24

I'm with the " I don't see the point in wearing make up if I am at home" posters.

I like to let my skin breathe and I'm pretty sure it benefits from it. I have been told more than once that I have good skin. However, I love wearing make up for work and going out.

The webcams on our work laptops aren't that good so I'm not bothered about wearing make up for work when I am WFH either.

Hatty65 · 09/05/2026 19:25

Nope. I get dressed every day because I hate lounging around in pjs in the day time, but that's about it. I might do my hair, but I rarely bother with make up,

That said, I'd be happy to go out as I am or for people to come to the door. I would not feel self conscious about not being 'ready' enough.

MiddleAgedDread · 09/05/2026 19:26

I wash my face, moisturise, tie my hair back and clean my teeth daily!

InterestingDuck · 09/05/2026 19:32

Most days I'm either going out of the house or WFH with meetings, so I put make up and jewellery on and make a conscious choice of what to wear. I have some CBA days when I wear something from my 'throw on' pile (downgraded going out clothes that have got shabby) and don't bother with make up, usually if I've got no major meetings WFH or we're not going further than the supermarket. Always get dressed unless I am actually unwell.

TheyGrewUp · 09/05/2026 19:38

I get showered and dressed every morning, teeth brushed and flossed, moisturiser, scent, hair brushed. I f I'm working from home there will always be teams meetings so hair and make-up are done first thing. Hair is five mins with the curling brush, make-up: foundarion, blusher, concealer, powder, mascara, lipstick (takes about three minutes). If I'm not working, I do hair and make-up before I go out.

Do you have any days where you just don't wear any make up and let your skin breathe?

Probably one or two days a week, and to be fair if I pop out at 5/6 after a day in the garden, I don't bother.

icepop2 · 09/05/2026 19:58

I cleanse, moisturise and brush my hair. That's as 'ready' as I ever get, no matter where I'm going.
