Anyone interested in a glow-up support thread for tips and accountability?

Is anyone interested in a glow up support thread? I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to keep me accountable, share tips and things to avoid etc.

Glow up can be for any reason, summer, anti-aging, wedding etc?

I’m just about to turn 42, always looked young but in the past few years I have noticed age creeping up on me. I need to lose a bit of weight, need to improve tone and texture of my arms and legs. My face is dull and suffers with open pores so lots to work on for me 😂

Would love to hear from anyone else looking to work on their appearance too 👋

✔️ Done today:
Vitamins
Workout
Steam
Everything shower, scrub and shave
Body lotion
Bouncy blow dry
Minimal make up
A few mins sat in the sun
1l water

To do later:
Charcoal mask
LED mask
IPL
Teeth whitening strips

I've ordered more wax beads for my mini eyebrow wax kit and some nail decals for my home manicure after I soak my acrylics off in a couple of weeks. I love my false nails but it is an expense I've decided to cut down on when I already have such a big nail polish collection to use.

LumionaMoonsplash · 19/04/2026 16:28

I'm using social media for good and have a secret Instagram account that I've fixed the algorithm to health, wellbeing, gym, glow up and happiness. I love it, it gives me good vibes and motivation as I scroll through. What's the opposite of doomscrolling?

lisam78 · 19/04/2026 16:48

@Ihaveaskedyouthricethank you - i'll try all those things. Apart from the getting dressed and feeling good about my own self, I am looking forward to the celebrations 🍾

Dunnocantthinkofone · 19/04/2026 19:31

Thanks for the welcome ladies and the tips.
I’ve had a better than usual day following this thread. All tiny steps but ones I wouldn’t usually bother with….. wore a bit of makeup and some earrings. Defuzzed legs, moisturised, that sort of thing

I’m going to start small so feel an ‘everything shower’ may be beyond me. So my version will be a ‘something bath’ instead. One grooming thing each time minimum - hair mask today plus a bonus gradual tan moisturiser on my pasty legs

Well done to you all that have been good today! 💐
I’ve blew it already, I’ve just poured a glass of wine 😩🤣
I have however had a very productive day!
will be better next week!

I think a wine is fine after a productive day!

Chocolatecoffeecup · 19/04/2026 19:47

My day:

Went for my first run in ages today. It was only 2 and a half miles and I walked some of it but I'm pleased with that.

I was going to have eggs from breakfast but we were out so I had a banana milkshake made with bananas, milk, Greek yogurt and put in my collagen powder.

For lunch I have airfryer chips as we also has no bread...

For dinner I had Korean fried chicken, not v healthy but DH is out for the night and it's what I fancied. I had one stick of a white kinder bueno after dinner.

I may have an Appletizer as a treat before bed and I still need to do some exercises to help fix my diastasis recti

Planning to dye my hair and then wash it before bed as well. May also do my nails. I use the manicurist polishes so takes 2 minutes but I usually only do them if I'm going out.

I'm just catching up on the thread but can I join too please?

I'm mid 30s with a 4YO. Before pregnancy I was a size 10 and now sometimes a 16 is too tight. I accept I'll never be as I was but I'd like to lose at least a stone. 2 would be perfect but that seems quite un achievable and daunting so my first proper goal will be 12st, with 12.5 as an intermediate one.

I'm getting into better routines and heading in the right direction, I just need to be more consistent. I was also on the thread last year with you @VenusStarr, I have lost half a stone since then but still plenty more to go! I am very sorry to hear about your dad ❤️

Count me in! I’ve lost all fitness I had and approaching 50 so keep being reminded that strength training is essential for our bones. I have a decent skin care routine but regularly sleep in my make up ( I know🤦🏼‍♀️)
I absolutely love healthy food but snacks are my downfall. I can’t stay away from the snack cupboard. This thread has made me take a look at my routine or lack of so thanks and I’ll enjoy following x

gettinghealthy · 19/04/2026 20:45

Just realised my post was all about weight. That is the biggest thing for me but also:

  • take daily vitamins (already in a good routine with this)
  • regular walks/swims
  • cut the wine
  • regular body brushing (daily if I cba)
  • taking better care of my feet
  • heathy eating - pretty good at this (despite being overweight) I just need to watch portion control, and cutting the wine will also help with this!

I've recently got into a good evening routine - body brush (most of the time), really hot shower, feet up on the headboard for a bit after applying some magnesium butter on them, read some of my book. I've been sleeping sooo much better - quicker and more deeply since starting this a couple of weeks ago.

Clothes will wait now until I've shifted some weight...

Perzival · 19/04/2026 21:21

Hi, may I join please?

I'm approaching 47 and have put on just under three stone since last Summer. I think it's a combination of peri and stress. I have afternoon tea booked with a friend tomorrow but then fully intend to get my arse in gear and make some positive changes.

I drink quite a bit of water but have been drinking wine more than I should then eating late at night because of the wine.

I'd like to get down to ten and a half stone and just feel better in my skin so to speak.

Sleep is an issue due to my son who is disabled and I have to be careful with my back.

Does anyone have any recommendations for teeth whitening please? I know a pp mentioned gleam strips, i'm wondering how they want on?

Also, i've noticed my hair is thinning, any tips please?

I’m the same healthy except for snacks and weekend wine. Lost my fitness due to peri menopause and work commitments. Always managed to fit exercise around family life until now!

@perzival I use the proper Crest whitening strips as they are the only ones that work well. However they are not sold in the UK due to their peroxide levels. I buy mine from the US Amazon.

Perzival · 20/04/2026 06:36

@LumionaMoonsplash thank you

Chocolatecoffeecup · 20/04/2026 07:27

I dyed my hair last night (just the patch of greys I have) and it looks much better.

I feel a bit lazy for leaving it for weeks as it's not that hard to do.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/04/2026 08:41

@Perzival I took some pumpkin seed capsules which really helped my hair but I didn’t realise you can’t take with hrt so I had to stop taking them. I take ferrous sulphate , vit d, biotin and b12, and collagen every day and it’s taken 3-4 months but I am now getting new growth and my hair feels much stronger and it is shiny again. It’s a long process as once you get the growth you then get the phase that I’m in which is where you hair is just a frizzy mess because there’s so much short hair!

Thank you for sharing and I'm glad you're getting results. Hopefully the fizzy stage passes soon. I'm not currently on hrt so may give the pumkin seeds a go.

I have took the plunge and ordered some. I noticed that they say to not go over the gum line but I had a quick look at some videos of people using them for vefore and after and they all seem to. Do you? I can imagine me being scared of going onto my gums and ending up with a yellow stripe at the top of my teeth.

Chaoshastakenover · 20/04/2026 13:05

I had my everything shower last night double cleansed my face defuzzed and I did my lashes I used a peel off brow tint but it turned my skin green I’m assuming it’s gone off 🤣 I also used a gradual face tanner and I look a bit better this morning. Do any of you double cleanse in the morning? I’ve just used micellar water and then my day creams and serum

I just wash my face once in the morning. I only double cleanse at night to make sure I've got my make up off and even then I don't double cleanse always.

I've not noticed any issues with my gums at all but I never use them more than once in 2 weeks. You are going to get the solution on your gums no matter how careful you try, it's a messy business. I wouldn't use them on sensitive teeth or gums.

LumionaMoonsplash · 20/04/2026 18:26

I only double cleanse at night if I'm wearing makeup or had a messy day, as I don't want to overstrip my skin if it doesn't need it. I only use soap and exfoliating sponge (bufpuf) in the morning shower and then serum, moisturise and spf.

I only double cleanse at night, don’t use the oil cleanser in the morning.

I use caffeine under eye and salicylic serum at night and hyaluronic acid serum in the morning.
