Anyone interested in a glow-up support thread for tips and accountability?

Is anyone interested in a glow up support thread? I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to keep me accountable, share tips and things to avoid etc.

Glow up can be for any reason, summer, anti-aging, wedding etc?

I’m just about to turn 42, always looked young but in the past few years I have noticed age creeping up on me. I need to lose a bit of weight, need to improve tone and texture of my arms and legs. My face is dull and suffers with open pores so lots to work on for me 😂

Would love to hear from anyone else looking to work on their appearance too 👋

Great news, hope that the wedding goes well. Glad that it is a bit cooler for the event. There was mist, actual mist here this morning!

Thanks, yeah the weather's weird as it's been quite cold the past couple of morning but then really heats up!

Bananadramatic · 17/07/2026 22:03

Checking in. Am feeling better than I have done in years.

Magnesium is helping me sleep better and has done for the last year I have been taking it, am back down to 59kg (lost the 5kg I gained during lockdown. Am 5ft7 so I only gained a couple of inches all over but was enough to move me up a size) so my old clothes fit and am back into the daily body moisturizer and vitamin habit.

Still probably need to drink more water, and could do with a holiday, but overall am pretty happy.

And whoever mentioned the Korean cloths up thread - thank you. I use them once a week and they are brilliant.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/07/2026 22:25

@Bananadramatic I love my Korean cloths. I use mine in the shower with really cheapo moisturiser, or on damp skin and they are like sandpaper, great for prolonging a tan!

it’s my birthday this weekend so I am off plan but annoyingly I am full of a rotten cold so I don’t feel well at all. It’s then 3 weeks til I go on holiday so i am going to be in full on diet and princess mode for 20 days from Monday.,

I haven’t done much glowing up to be honest this week but I am enjoying my pared back wardrobe, and I am definitely noticing some muscle gain which is likely due to my increased calorie allowance.

Neuronimo · 18/07/2026 07:01

@ thenewaveragebear1983

Hope you manage to enjoy your birthday this weekend, sorry to hear you have a cold.

I've had a good week. I have finally reached my first target of losing 10% of my body weight. I am hoping that this will be enough to put my pre diabetes into remission, for my 6 month call back. I'd like to lose another 8lb over time, which would still leave me in the overweight category, but much improved. I have enjoyed trying on clothes that didn't fit in April. I also have a lot more energy, which is a bonus.

I am going to put the clothes that are too big into the loft, just in case, but hopefully I shan't need them.

I've had another big sort out, mostly jumpers this week. I also bought some of those multi item hangers for trousers and tops, to give me a bit more space in the wardrobe. I plan to dye my eyebrows this weekend. I am also loving the Korean cloths.

LBB2020 · 19/07/2026 08:58

Well done @Neuronimo thats brilliant! I’ve just had my letter to go for my annual diabetes blood test, I was just on the borderline of pre diabetes last year.
I have 1lb to go to get me to my first mini goal then a further 7lbs to get to my goal weight. It feels doable as long as I can keep up n track during the summer holidays (routine seems to go out of the window when the children are off school!).
I sorted through my wardrobe during the week and feel happy I now have clothes that fit, are comfortable and make me feel good. I have a few things to put on Vinted but they are more for autumn/winter so am going to wait till the weather turns a bit to list them. I need some nice accessories and a brown bag to finish 🙃 ff my outfits so I’m going to start looking and make a “wish list”.
Hope you are all having a nice weekend. I’m so happy the weather has cooled down a little!

Neuronimo · 19/07/2026 09:14

LBB2020

There's a very good chance you will can reverse prediabetes with weight loss, when you at the beginning.

There is something a little bit exciting about Autumn/Winter clothes switch over. I am also enjoying the cooler weather.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/07/2026 07:11

Morning glow uppers. It’s less that three weeks til holiday now for me so I am in full on glow mode! Aside from diet, I am trying to get to bed early and drink more water. My feet need some attention, they are very dry. I had some lovely bath products for my birthday so yesterday i scrubbed and moisturised all over. I’m quite tanned due to the nice weather. Annoyingly I am full of cold and feeling grotty which isn’t great, but hoping to shift that soon. my hair is falling out a lot at the moment, I have a new HRT regime now and I’m back on the iron tabs which hopefully will help with that. I did get it back before but it takes a lot of effort to get it growing again.

Neuronimo · 21/07/2026 08:17

Sorry you are full of cold, there seems to be a lot about. I'm sure the HRT and iron will help with hair loss. I find bovine or marine collagen helps with hair loss too, though it is anecdotal in terms of evidence. I definitely notice more shedding when I stop taking it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/07/2026 18:15

@Neuronimo I take ferrous sulphate, and biotin, and collagen (but I’ve run out), and I must admit I got sloppy and that’s what’s triggered the shedding I think. The only thing that actually worked for he was a very expensive salt shampoo which really helped, and a pumpkin seed supplement but then I developed a big cyst in my breast and apparently you can’t take those with HRT 🤷‍♀️ so annoying. I was getting little bits of growth but now I’m back to feeling like it’s quite straggly.

I’m feeling a bit better this afternoon, this morning I felt dreadful so it’s a bit hit and miss. Just watching my son’s football and getting some steps in doing laps of the school track. Should’ve brought my trainers!

Neuronimo · 21/07/2026 19:56

Oh gosh it sounds like a bit of a minefield working out what interacts with what. The salt shampoo sounds interesting. I just been going down the low sulphate route, though I did use K18 for a time. Glad you are feeling better though!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/07/2026 22:18

@Neuronimo it was called nature spell salt shampoo, it’s on Amazon

LBB2020 · 28/07/2026 18:44

How is everyone doing?
I’m trying not to get out of routine during the summer while the children are off school!
I’m managing to hit my steps and calorie goals most days (averages out over the week). I would like to get to an exercise class this week but work has been busy.
We go away in a few weeks so have booked a hair appointment and I’m hoping I will have lost a stone by the time we go (only a few lbs to go now so should be doable).
Can anyone recommend a gradual tan? My arms have caught the sun but my legs are ghostly!

Neuronimo · 28/07/2026 19:52

Well done LBB2020 ·

Hope you are feeling fab! I was a bit underwhelmed with the Gatineau gradual tan and think I shall be going back to Sienna gradual un tinted which I have used for years. I put a bit of double base on before and it is lovely. My legs are like milk bottles, so it makes a difference.

All good here, I have seen a chiropractor a couple of times and it has made quite a difference to my injured foot and rib pain. It has also made exercise a bit easier and I get to soak my feet in lavender epsom salts each evening which is lovely. I just need to stick to all of the physio exercises too, as I tend to let them drop once things improve.

Wardrobe wise, I have sorted my trousers and waistcoats onto some multi hangers. Not sure if it has saved space, but they are easier to grab. (Sorry this post is a bit of an essay)

LBB2020 · 28/07/2026 23:21

Hi @Neuronimo, I will look up the Sienna tan! Thanks for the recommendation.
Glad the chiropractor has made a difference. Sorting out the wardrobe makes such a difference doesn’t it. Doing mine the other week has made me reach for things I hadn’t worn for ages as they are now visible rather than all crammed in!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/07/2026 06:53

I need to up my glow game for a few days before my holiday now. I’ve let it all slide! I have quite a good natural tan this year, I tan easily anyway and I think the fact I have run all year round outdoors meant that as soon as the sun hits me I have gone brown.
unfortunately I am shedding a lot of hair, maybe that’s the heat but I feel my ponytail getting very thin again and combing is resulting in a lot of shedding. I did restart my iron tablets but I am a bit sporadic with them. Must try harder. And I should take my own advice with the nature spell shampoo above.
gleam strips could be restarted, I have 6 left so need to order more but could start again. The biggest thing is my feet, oh my poor runners feet. They are so dry, I actually lost 2 toenails earlier this week after a half marathon and generally they need tlc more for feeling rather than appearance because no one gets close enough to actually see them. But they are tired and achey. I love my saltwater sandals but my goodness those barefoot flat soles are not good for me. I may take a trip into town to see if I can get some adventure sandals with a little cushioning!

I did a wardrobe full a few week ago which has been very successful and I am going to do a big bulk list this weekend for one final push. The downside is that I culled a lot of my shorts and realised that I have only kept denim ones and those are pretty short. So I actually needed to buy a couple of pairs, which I have now done on vinted and a really pretty mint green linen pair arrived yesterday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/08/2026 07:40

Yesterday I bought the nature spell shampoo I recommended, it’s on offer in boots at the moment with advantage card. I also bought a nice dry feet cream, and a moisturiser that squirts like a foam but goes on as an oil, and smells really lovely .

today I must colour my hair/ roots and I want to sort out my feet and nails. This week I’m just working towards feeling a bit more “polished” on holiday!

Neuronimo · 02/08/2026 10:09

The nature shampoo and foot cream sound lovely. I'm really loving the naturum glycolic wash and the caudalie dry oil spray, so thanks for those suggestions.

I haven't been buying too much over the last couple of weeks, but have love the medicube PDRN pink serum. I might try the eye serum at some point too.

This week I've been thinking about bad habits. One part of my brain loves organising and ordering my wardrobe, but I have a tendency to buy something I love and then look for and buy similar items. Apart from curbing new purchases, I think I need to weed out any duplicates when I do the Autumn reshuffle. and to be more mindful of waste.

My weight has plateaued over the last couple of weeks, but I haven't gained so this is a plus. Friends have been nagging me to increase calories a bit, but I am nervous. I did a calculation I should be on about 1260 a day to lose a pound a week. Exercise and lovely walks are all still going well. Dh has joined me on my wellness journey, which really helps.

LBB2020 · 02/08/2026 15:31

I stayed the same this week too weight wise which is a bit disappointing as I’m so close to a stone but as you said, it’s not a gain!
I've been making more effort to wear my “nice” clothes rather than saving them for a special occasion. My life isn’t full of special occasions so I just need to wear the things I like and enjoy them! My 8 year old told me I looked nice this morning!
Glad you like the glycolic body wash @Neuronimo. The foam body oil sounds lovely @thenewaveragebear1983, which one is it?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/08/2026 16:08

it’s sanctuary spa from boots. I think it’s new and it’s currently on offer. It was still £9 though 😱 however, I am terrible at moisturiser so if I gimmick helps me do it, I’m all for it!

Neuronimo · 02/08/2026 16:35

Glad you are wearing your lovely things LBB2020 ·

You have done so well with your weight loss, it must be nice to enjoy them and not keep them for best.

LBB2020 · 02/08/2026 17:58

Thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 i will have to have a look when I next go into town.
@Neuronimo thank you, I’m feeling a lot more confident and like myself. Still a little way to go but hopefully by the end of the year I’ll get there!
Great that your DH is supporting and joining you on your journey, definitely makes it easier
