Anyone interested in a glow-up support thread for tips and accountability?

Is anyone interested in a glow up support thread? I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to keep me accountable, share tips and things to avoid etc.

Glow up can be for any reason, summer, anti-aging, wedding etc?

I’m just about to turn 42, always looked young but in the past few years I have noticed age creeping up on me. I need to lose a bit of weight, need to improve tone and texture of my arms and legs. My face is dull and suffers with open pores so lots to work on for me 😂

Would love to hear from anyone else looking to work on their appearance too 👋

Can I join you?
I’ve lost almost 5 and a half stone in the last year (thank you, Mounjaro!) and I’ve just had a big birthday. I’m fairly fit anyway but I’ve been slacking recently. So I’ve committed to 2 weight training sessions and 2 cardio a week. If I can get any more in, bonus. Menopause has made my skin so dry, I need to get into a better body moisturising habit. When I do use it, my skin just drinks it up, so clearly needs it.
Face wise, I had Botox at the end of last year and loved it, but I need it again and I’m struggling to afford it right now. Hoping to have some before my summer holiday. I have however been getting microneedling every 6 weeks and my skin looks amazing on it, so much plumper and healthier.
As seems to be a common theme here, I too need to up the water and lower the wine!
Was supposed to be at the gym this morning but DH and DS need the car to go to football, so I’m taking myself off for a walk instead later.

@Sandysandytoeshow are you finding the gleam strips? I have them in my basket on the site as well speak, are you noticing results?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2026 09:37

@HooseMidden I can’t remember the exact exercises but there’s loads on YouTube to get you started. I remember one of them was if you’re doing crunches and you notice the ‘doming’ of your tummy, you sort of ‘flatten’ your spine into the mat, it’s that movement which you need to practice. You get to that position then do eg. Leg raises or even lateral holds (where your feel and arms are slightly raised (also called hollow body) . Deadbugs are also great but you must keep that control and stop if you start doming. When you first start, even just holding that hollow body hold is utterly exhausting. Anything DR is long sloooooow holds rather than exercises as such. My third baby was a 10lb bruiser who lay diagonally on the right side due to a wonky placenta for the entire 8 months, followed by a caesarean as he was so flipping massive. He was like a bear 🤣 needless to say my core was wrecked, first by pregnancy, then by birth and then cs recovery.

also if you go to a gym or classes you must tell the instructor you have DR, there’s a lot of exercises you shouldn’t do and will made it worse.

I’m so happy we’ve got so many of us on here now! 👋

I’ve had my roots done this morning so feeling a bit better, put some tan on last night but the colour is a bit off, hoping it’s because it was a gradual one and a top up will give a better colour.

I’m going to get some steps in this afternoon and I’m determined to start some at home Pilates workouts - I’ve wanted to go for a while but can’t find a class with times that work for me.

I did my hairdye today , long overdue but I thought "cannot put this off"
Just looked online to re stock , colours are limited so I'm hoping in store has a better choice !

Chocolatecoffeecup · 18/04/2026 20:43

@HooseMidden I found an nhs leaflet online which aligns with exercises my physio gave me ages ago so I've been doing 10-20 of exercises 1-4 plus the half versions of exercise 7 (ie just lift arms or legs) and I'm planning to do that for a couple of weeks before building up. There are loads on YouTube too. I've been watching beckychoi and karli bergman

Chocolatecoffeecup · 18/04/2026 20:44

I also need to dye my hair. I'm going for a run in the morning so may do it after that but if feels like a pain to do. Thankfully I only have greys in one relatively small area so I just dye that...

Now going to do my diastasis recti exercises

Dunnocantthinkofone · 18/04/2026 21:11

Oh I’d love to join you all. I’m older than most of you and have thoroughly let myself go post menopause
Ive not even heard of most of the things you are all suggesting and planning though! I’m a total and complete beginner on all things grooming and have ridden my luck over the years doing almost nothing (no sunscreen, moisturiser, haircut every few months max - truly poor)
Where do I even start?

Sandysandytoes · 18/04/2026 07:44

great thread! I’ve been trying to do a refresh - never really thought about this stuff before but now late 40s I’d rather look well groomed than natural! So far: had eyebrows waxed for first time (red for a week after though so may not do it again!). Vitamin c serum - has made a difference, I think. Re-started weights at home. Using gleam teeth strips. I am slim but have a definite tummy and poor posture - this is the key thing I need to sort but less sure how - any tips?

The vit c may have made the redness worse when you got the wax. If you drop it for a couple of days beforehand next time you will know

Sorry @HooseMidden didn't include the link

and… will plan outfits for week and have them IRONED

Maybe start with the basics, schedule a haircut, get your eyebrows waxed and tinted (makes a huge difference!) and nails done. Those 3 things alone will give you a big boost. Then start with a basic skincare routine, maybe get advice on your skin type from a beauty therapist or at one of the counters in department stores....

People on here will have better advice but that would be starting point imo. Best of luck 😊

I admire your organisation planning the weeks outfits! Something I never do but should!!!

Sunshine1500 · 19/04/2026 07:51

I didn’t drink wine last night and got up early to do some exercise. Did skincare last night so small steps. However went out Friday night and Saturday for lunch. Going to try give up alcohol for a month.

Chaoshastakenover · 19/04/2026 08:06

Can I join? I’m currently loosing weight on mounjaro I go to the hairdresser every 4weeks and get nail and gel toes I need a pedicure I’ve got really rough heels I also get regular brow wax and tint buts it’s the stuff I need to do skin care that I always fall behind on I’ve got all the creams and cleansers i just need to get in to a habit of using it all

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/04/2026 08:26

I did drink wine last night but didn’t on Friday so that’s a win for me. On a group chat for a diet club I belong to, we were talking about those 30 day “transformation” type things you see on Facebook and whether they work, and I remembered that a few years ago I did one, and after 30 days the results were incredible, I had actually visible Abs! Why oh why I did not continue I do not know, but the before and after pictures are very motivating so I am going to try to redo it for 30 days. I am sure if I recall it was literally called 10 minute abs and was 10 mins a day. So no excuse really!

I am sooooooo looking forward to my spa day! And I’ve packed some nice toiletries so I can have a really good shower after with one of my scrubby cloths and moisturiser. I’m have a new book to read as well!

Ihaveaskedyouthrice · 19/04/2026 09:48

Ooh I need this thread badly. A glow up has been on my to do list since my youngest was a baby(he's now 9😲😲).
I'm on top of facial skincare, have had a solid (if basic) routine for years.
Really want to focus on my body skin, it's so dry, in my younger days I was great to do full body moisturiser after a shower but that rarely happens now.
Need to lose a stone, not technically overweight but have a sold layer of fat around my belly. I have a horrendous sweet tooth so feel like I'm always looking for the next sugar fix 😔

Focus for this week

  1. Water
  2. Steps(10,000 a day)
  3. Body moisturiser at least 3 times.

Other things I'm looking into are
*Ear piercing
*New wardrobe (am totally stuck in a leggings and hoodie rut)
*New makeup (have been wearing the same make up pretty much since my 20s and I know it's dated but I don't know how to change it)
*Weight training. I know this is a glow up thread rather than a weight/exercise thread but for me, they are all very interconnected.

We have a family wedding abroad in September so I'd really like alot of changes to have come to fruition by then.

Mackemlass79 · 19/04/2026 12:58

I have found my people (I hope) I would like to join u all if I may ladies although I do feel very old in comparison (47 just turned) and certainly dont have young children tho youngest step daughter is nearly 11 and 2 older girls in 20s

I have had an awful time health wise recently and really need to start helping myself and want to feel less old and shattered thank you perimenopause 🙈.

Trying not to overhaul too much in one go so my goals are

  1. Consistent skincare routine (im so bad)
  2. Increase my water (also terrible)
  3. Take vitamins consistently including newly purchased protein meal replacements and collagen powder (yes I fell for the marketing hype)
HooseMidden · 19/04/2026 13:19

Thank you. I'll get some time in for that daily I would think....

I got my hair coloured yesterday and planning for the everything shower tonight.

lisam78 · 19/04/2026 13:53

I'd love to join too. I keep losing and finding the same 1.5 stone. I have a wedding next Saturday, and had an awful day trying on dresses yesterday. Came home empty handed and angry with myself for putting on weight, again. There's not much I can do in a week, but I will prioritise sleep, no alcohol, walking, exercising and eating home made nutritious meals. I am getting my hair cut and coloured on Friday, so will use this week to put gradual tan on, use LED mask and do an at home manicure/pedicure.

MrsWhites · 19/04/2026 14:06

Right, I finally put a new battery in my scales and braved the weigh in - it wasn’t good! Need to lose a stone at least by summer but maybe it will give me the kick up the arse I needed!

Welcome to our new recruits!

@Mackemlass79 My children are not young either - 12 and early 20’s so I have no excuse other than laziness really 😂

If you avoid starchy carbs, sweets and alcohol and drink tons of water in the next week it'll definitely make a difference. Enjoy the wedding 🙂🙂

Haha well I have a physical disability but theres still 0 excuse I can do way more than I do to help myself feel and look better so yeah I hear u on the laziness 🙈 theres no excuse for my lacking with skin care, supplements and water and i can do more exercise than is currently happening

I agree with PPs but also think about the things you might do before a big event or party. I'd wash, dry and blow dry my hair, shave my legs etc, dye my hair, do my nails, eyebrows, I don't get them done but shaping and a natural polish works for me)... the things that make you feel good about yourself
