Anyone interested in a glow-up support thread for tips and accountability?

Is anyone interested in a glow up support thread? I thought it might be nice to have somewhere to keep me accountable, share tips and things to avoid etc.

Glow up can be for any reason, summer, anti-aging, wedding etc?

I’m just about to turn 42, always looked young but in the past few years I have noticed age creeping up on me. I need to lose a bit of weight, need to improve tone and texture of my arms and legs. My face is dull and suffers with open pores so lots to work on for me 😂

Would love to hear from anyone else looking to work on their appearance too 👋

I’d love to join this please 😊

I’m 34 and always looked really young for my age until the last year!! I have bad under eye creases now and starting to get forehead lines.
I need to shift a couple stone in weight also. Me and my friend started evening walks but I’m out with back injury awaiting physio next week.
I recently got my hair coloured at the salon went for a balayage but need another round as my hairs super dark. I got my brows done recently and I always get my gel nails done and every 2 months I get a spa pedicure. I started a really strong skincare routine aswell. Me and my mum are thinking of trying some baby Botox. Once I lose a bit of weight I think I’ll start to really feel better. My sisters getting married in 2028 wnd im maid of honour so I want to get a bit of Botox, lose a couple stone, just take care of myself until then. I’m seriously considering going on wegovy.

My first test! I was in the supermarket with my DH last night and he suggested getting some ready made cocktails. We don’t get them often so it would have been a fun treat but part of the problem is that alcohol has creeping into week nights rather than just weekends. I chose to get some nice sushi instead and I’m feeling good about that today.

So this week on the back of this thread I have : used my little half moon facial brush (its actually really comforting in a weird way, like a little animals paw 🤣) ; given the dog a few extra walks and went for a run in the rain this morning; stuck to my meal plan and counted my calories; and I just did a 30 minute weights and core workout watching tv after finishing working. Oh, and drank water more (today I have had 4 pints with slices of lime and lemon in)

next week I am going to order Gleam teeth strips after doing a bit of research and reviews. I really hate my teeth, they are perfectly straight but so yellow!

I'll join you. I was on a similar thread last year and it was good. I lost 1.5 stone and was feeling better in myself but lost my dad in October and struggled. Put weight on and stopped strength training. Feel like I've got the energy and motivation coming back now..

I'm 43 this year. Have been using invisible braces and only got 12weeks left, so will whiten my teeth when I'm done.

Painted my nails last night. Want to get back into the habit of using gradual tanner, it made a big difference last year.

Am off to the gym tonight to do some strength and weight training. Plus I aim for a minimum of 8000 steps a day, so usually do a 30-45 minute walk before work.

Looking forward to joining

Edited

Ooohh any tips on the best gradual tanner to use? Do you use it on face, body or both? How any times per week?

Thank you !

nzeire · 17/04/2026 10:20

Today… I did my nails and bought a facial oil! Go me

WhoRemembersMarbleBars · 17/04/2026 10:51

Can I join please?
Turned 40 last year, could do with losing around a stone. My plan is:
Less wine and carbs
More moving - no excuse for not getting out for a walk with the lighter nights
Start pilates again -booked in for a class next week
Aim to do a dance fit youtube a couple for times a week
Got a family celebration at the end of June, so thats my goal!

WhoRemembersMarbleBars · 17/04/2026 10:52

Oooh and I have been doing the facial brush thing with the little half moon brush - I do it while sat watching TV in the evening, and I do think it makes a bit of difference. Follow it up with a quick rosehip oil massage, and my skin does feel nice.

MrsWhites · 17/04/2026 13:06

I need to get one of those facial brushes.

I’ve been keeping up my skin care and I religiously get my hair and nails done (mostly because I’m completely grey) but that’s about all I have done this week.

Its maybe on the extreme end of a glow up but I got lip filler last year and I still absolutely love it, it gave my face much more shape!

Today hubby took out little one out to the shops after lunch. I have never turned the bath tap on so fast in my life!
I am scrubbed, shaved and body buttered from head to toe! Even sat down with a cuppa right now while they are on their way home.

What a time to be alive!!

Dogladycrazy · 17/04/2026 16:29

Count me in! I’m 56 and always looked young for my age until menopause hit and then bam! Jowls and a turkey neck. Take Nutrition Geeks collagen and also Elevate chocolate flavour twice a day in coffee, plus have the Lux Cove device that I use on the days I remember. Good at drinking water but feel it might be being undermined by my preferred source of hydration - wine! 🤣 need to lose a few pounds after gaining due to meno, plus surgery last year. Will follow for tips and motivation!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/04/2026 17:07

@MrsWhitesi got mine on Amazon I think they were about £6 for 2. I had Bell’s palsy about 18 months ago and I got left with some lingering inflammation in my face which gives me a weird numb feeling- well after a week of only 5 minutes gentle brushing down my face and neck I can definitely feel a difference

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/04/2026 20:10

Tonight my gym class was cancelled and instead of taking dh up on his offer of wine, I did a home workout with my barbell and 20 mins of yoga 😇

Chocolatecoffeecup · 17/04/2026 22:05

Well done @thenewaveragebear1983 👏🏼

I've been keeping up with my abs exercises. They are quire basis as they are diastasis recti friendly but if they work I could he looking at flatter abs and a smaller waist this time next month 🤞🏼

I've been doing some arms exercises too as I'd like to be toned all over.

I also just signed up to a run so will be running as well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/04/2026 22:21

@Chocolatecoffeecup I did a diastasis recti correction programme a few years ago, it made a massive difference to my shape! (And my posture overall actually) . What run have you signed up to?

I'm hoping it does the same for me 🤞🏼

It's just a 10K. I used to run and I've done a half marathon before but haven't really run in ages. It's in June so will give me a reason to get out and run over the next couple of months while I'm trying to get fit.

Not unrelated, and I know this isn't a weight thread, I weighed myself this morning and I've put on a couple of pounds. I actually haven't weighed as much as I do now for 2 years.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2026 07:31

@Chocolatecoffeecup ah good for you, it is good to have a goal to get you back out there though. I am doing my first marathon in October and I have 2 half M booked in, one is in 3 weeks and the other in June.

I’m going to vinted my wardrobe today, like seriously declutter. I have a system, I get the iron and ironing board out, make a really pretty corner with great light, get a really nice coat hanger and I try every single thing on and if I hear that little voice that says “too flouncy/ patterned/ bulky/short/makes you look chunky/frumpy/colour drains you etc” it goes immediately on vinted. Not in a bag for later, it goes immediately on at a very low price to sell. I’d rather sell 20 things for a few ££ than sell a couple for £10 and have a bag of remorse purchases in my wardrobe for weeks

Ah amazing I'd love to do a marathon but I don't think I have the
commitment. If I enjoy getting back into running then I might try to run more. I injured myself (hamstring) doing my half years ago and it's still bothers me

Getting stuff on Vinted is a great way to spend a few hours. I have stuff I need to sell and it's just so time consuming. I want to get rid of stuff I don't wear. I have things in my wardrobe I've never worn but they're like new so I don't want to get rid...

great thread! I’ve been trying to do a refresh - never really thought about this stuff before but now late 40s I’d rather look well groomed than natural! So far: had eyebrows waxed for first time (red for a week after though so may not do it again!). Vitamin c serum - has made a difference, I think. Re-started weights at home. Using gleam teeth strips. I am slim but have a definite tummy and poor posture - this is the key thing I need to sort but less sure how - any tips?

My posture is terrible too, like you though I don’t know how to fix it other than standing up straight 😂

Speaking of vitamin C I bought the garnier vit c sorbet moisturiser this week, I really like it so far, hydrating but soaks in really quickly. Very impressed for the price (£5)!

I also slapped on a bit of fake tan last night and I’m going to get my roots done today.

I'm mid glow up, it's been a long road of self discovery. I'm switching to home treatments for what I can to save a bit of money, I'm really enjoying pampering myself. I've lost almost 6st on the meds so I'm working hard on maintaining that loss.

I go to the gym 5x a week. Drink lots of water and herbal tea, I limit alcohol to 2 glasses of wine on a Fri and Sat. I have these earlier than I used to and then drink water afterwards. I eat lots of salmon or chicken with veg, lunch is a small jacket potato with tuna most days. Daily vitamins and supplements, get out in the sun (ensure your skin is protected). Just having my morning coffee in natural sunlight does wonders to my soul for the day.

My biggest tip is an early night with lots of good quality sleep, it's the best thing for your health and wellbeing.

Always style your hair after every wash, mine is naturally a thick frizzy mess so shiny and bouncy hair makes a huge difference. Perfect an easy low level make up routine. Wear perfume every day. I shower twice a day, most days which is excessive but mornings, (quick 3mins) I use bar soap on face, pits and bits only to keep certain areas clean, my skin suffers when overwashed. My everything shower: After the gym and steam room, I use a nice body wash in the shower with an African net to scrub, then top to toe lotion, foot balm to ward off the scaly heels, face serum and moisturiser, under eye masks. I float out of the gym, on a dopamine high, feeling like a supermodel.

Home treatments: face steam, collagen face mask, red light mask, brow wax and tint, dermaplaning, lash lift and tint, pedicure, manicure, IPL, teeth whitening.

The beauty treatments I keep are the Hairdressers every 3wks for root maintenance (dark hair with lots of silvers), a Brazilian wax every 6wks and botox every 6months.

Can I join ? ( Blatant Placemarking going on )

I have a MileStone Birthday coming up so I really need to get a foot in the door .
I bought a couple of clothing items recently that I need to shift a bit round my belly to wear , no point thinking "Oh I'll buy the next size up " because then I'm just allowing the fat to sit there .

I started using a face cleansing pad in the shower with a wash off cleanser ( I have a few on the go , an M&S HotCloth cleanser , the Inky List Oat Balm and a couple of travel sizes ) then use a serum under moisturiser (Skin 1004 ampoule ) and a throat and decolletage cream. I need to add an eye sreum or gel to the mix I think .
I started using an eyelash serum , too early yet to see results ,
Dyeing my eyebrows makes them look half decent for a while till it fades .

I waxed my armpits and top lip , but need to do my legs ( I use an epilator on legs )

I have the Nutrition Geeks Biotin Hair and Nails , but looking on their website there's a few I could definitely do with buying .

Hair needs something doing with, I usually tie it back , I bought a new styling brush gadget so going to give that a try today . .
Need to get a hair dresser appointment booked before my birthday

Booked a dental appointment to sort my teeth out

My incentive :
Birthday
Holiday -short break but want to look nice
Big Holiday - want to look nice and be fitter
Getting my teeth done

That's enough to be going on with .
I drink loads of water anyway , probably too much coffee but no alcohol and no fizzy drinks ever .
Never smoked

Wow! You really are on top of everything!

I got botox for 3rd time 2 weeks ago..Last time which was about 18 months ago, I ended up with a 'shelf' under my eyes. Dr this time (different clinic) said she would do crowd feet injection higher so that wouldn't happen but it has again, not to same extent but I still look odd 😔

I am restarting WLI today. I haven't a huge amount to lose but I feel so better when on them, the weight drops off....and I also just feel better in general, more energy once initial shock to system wears off! I also have bookings for Mon/Tues/Wed for nails/hair/eyebrows which will give me a boost! I have started decluttering my wardrobe and ordered some new clothes for upcoming holiday

HooseMidden · 18/04/2026 09:05

Perfect timing to come across this thread. I'd like to join you please?
I have two young kids and work FT compressed hours so time limited, but I definitely don't prioritise myself!
An everything shower once a week seems a great place to start - Sunday seems most reasonable so we'll see how that goes.

@thenewaveragebear1983 @Chocolatecoffeecup diastasis recti programme recommendations would be appreciated. My mid section is shit after to c-sections and two big babies.
