Dated? Or still acceptable to wear?!

Dated, has been for a while.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/04/2026 14:13

Who cares, wear what you like, I'm wearing a dress and mostly white trainers right now

KaleidoscopeSmile · 08/04/2026 14:16

I think you should ignore anyone who thinks something's dated if you like it yourself but the problem with the dress and trainers (and denim jacket) thing is that it became so ubiquitous among a certain demographic, such a uniform.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/04/2026 14:17

Andi Oliver on Great British menu is still wearing hers. However I’d now opt for a colour.

StylishAndBeautiful · 08/04/2026 14:20

Dated? Yes. As pp, it's become a middle-aged uniform, especially with a little denim jacket or cardigan over it. (Not being ageist, it's just not fashionable)
Or still acceptable to wear?! Sure, it's comfortable and if it works for you, why not.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/04/2026 14:30

These are just plucked from Vogue recently. They did a dress and trainer editorial. They are, of course, worn by fashionable women. However they are not white and must are retro. So thinner soles and more like a running shoe. However colours are definitely the way to go!

Those look awful.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 08/04/2026 14:40

I think it’s says “mumsy” . It’s not necessarily dated as such but there are certain things I won’t wear because of what they say about the person. Another example is the French tuck- this says woman of a certain age. I can’t stand it.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/04/2026 14:43

@StylishAndBeautiful All of them? Really? Well they were in the Vogue article. I have several like the ones photographed. I think white is a bit dated but the styles shown are all pretty wearable even if you would not buy the outfits!

StylishAndBeautiful · 08/04/2026 14:54

@Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink I would probably wear the dress and denim jacket because I wore them before it was fashionable.

The 'french tuck' to me looks like 'I'm trying to hide a thick waistline'.

PeonyBulb · 08/04/2026 14:56

The main trend is to just wear which ever trainers you want and feel like wearing on the day

DramaAlpaca · 08/04/2026 15:00

Dress and trainers yes, but I go for coloured trainers now. White ones do feel a bit dated and not quite right. I like narrow, retro style ones as someone said above; chunky trainers don't feel like me.

StylishAndBeautiful · 08/04/2026 15:00

@MeetMeOnTheCorner I thought they looked ok because they were on young slim women and because of fashion but in terms of stylishness they didn't.
The adidas ones look ok but everyone's wearing them around here, other than the NB or crocs with white sports socks and trackie bottoms brigade.

(I agree about the white trainers - and they'd probably have a little zip next to the laces.)

DramaAlpaca · 08/04/2026 15:01

For me it looks like I got dressed in the dark; I just can't seem to get it right Confused

Firesidechatter · 08/04/2026 15:17

trainwrs now I go for cream or tan but in a leather plimsole style rather than actual trainers, if you know what I mean, and not trainer trainers, and not white.

dresses, yes but again it depends on the dress. Floral is out. But midi dresses are very in, with maybe a dropped waist, and full skirt, or a loose column one.

so I’d say it’s not as simple as a dress and trainers are out, it’s more ensuring the Style of dress is current and the style of trainers.

Plump82 · 08/04/2026 15:23

I honestly couldn't care less if it's in fashion or not. I still wear dresses with trainers as it makes ME feel good and that's all that matters.

Same here - fashion is what you like best. I’ve worn a dress and trainers in three different European cities over the last couple of weeks and it’s still a very popular outfit.

Ohhhthedrama · 08/04/2026 15:44

Apparently it's dated but I see this look in the shops and I bet if you go anywhere on a sunny day you'll see plenty of people wearing it. I think it looks nice. Have you seen some of the 'fashion' posted here?. Bloody awful. Go with what you like and feel good in. This weekend I wore the dreaded skinny jeans with Converse and a cotton shirt. I think that would also be considered dated but I felt good in it and got a few compliments.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 08/04/2026 16:25

What's a French tuck? That trend where you tuck a corner of your jumper into your belt?

Also still wearing trainers with skirts and dresses here as have terrible plantar fasciitis and a large arse so a dress is the most flattering thing for me.

MJFEB2026 · 08/04/2026 16:28

I decided against the trainers and wore the dress with flat sandals instead. A lady came up to me in the shopping centre and asked me where my dress was from 😁

Decades of wearing don't-care heels and fabulous shoes and my ankles are now thoroughly fucked. So it's sneakers all the way for me now with a big fat sad emoji.

I'm clearly resigned to being on the fashion scrap heap.

PinsAndThrums · 08/04/2026 16:45

Thought better of it. Fat fingers

StylishAndBeautiful · 08/04/2026 16:50

@DramaAlpaca , I also think it looks like someone's just been to the loo and accidentally caught a bit of their top in their waistband.

Haha, that makes me feel better for not being able to carry it off Grin

StylishAndBeautiful · 08/04/2026 16:58

They look good, @MJFEB2026 .

@DramaAlpaca , I'm thinking of a man having been to the loo even though the french tuck is on a woman IYSWIM. (💩)
