How much do you estimate the contents of your make up bag are worth?
Ive roughly added mine up and ive got it to £200

I saw "primer" and automatically thought of this...

My dad “if it came in a tube labelled makeup you would pay £30 and put it on your eyes”

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/04/2026 16:08

Bought a Pixie moisturising bronzing stick today its so lovely and subtle

Thank you for those who replied

I think I'll stick with what I'm using

I tend to try stuff from QVC because you can actually try it and send it back

I was actually a bit horrified the first time I spent money on I think it was Laura Geller but being able to send it back as such a game changer

It sounds like the really big factor is staying power and I do find I get that with what I'm using

Really interesting to hear that people aren't changing their daily look and their evening look much

I don't really change mine either, except I'm likely to use sparkly eyeshadow in the evening and a bit of extra because I find that you need a bit of extra in the evening or maybe that's just me 😂

I don't use setting spray I bet it would make me itchy probably useful for eyeliner in the summer though

I thought about getting semipermanent eyeliner, but it's quite a scary thought

People are clearly getting a lot of enjoyment out of their make up and that's nice - I'll have to have a look on YouTube as I don't know how to use highlighter or anything and it might help

Couple of posters have mentioned the Armani silk foundation. I have heard really good things about that but it's a lot to fork out if it doesn't suit your skin or if you just don't like it

not heard of some of the brands mentioned here so I'm going to do some research tomorrow as I'm quite quiet tomorrow! I love the idea of having Chanel in my make up bag!

That'd do it 🙃

Royal effing Mail! Telling me they ‘tried to deliver’. 😡

I was right here, waiting. Now I apparently won’t see my Hydrabalm until Wednesday. 😡😡😡

That's a special kind of rage isn't it. Fuckers. Hate it when that happens.

ANagsHead · 04/04/2026 18:00

🥲 Trying to soften the blow with G&T and rubbish TV!

You know, after all the time I've wasted spent on this godforsaken site, I took you seriously at first, too ... especially given that long thread a week or two ago with several posters saying no one ever needs to buy a coffee while out, because they could have taken a Thermos full in their bag ....🙄

Anyway, those Westman Atelier sheer lipsticks look gorgeous. Are they as nice as the Merit ones?

The WA have a different feel and are glossier. Different enough to own both IMO (which I do!). I’ve got four WA HydroBalms and a couple of the Merit Lip Blushes (and one old formula Merit), they are all lovely (and this is also why I won’t be adding up how much my makeup stash is worth!).

SummerLimes · 04/04/2026 20:04

Interested to add up…

Estée Lauder concealer £29 (not loving it).
Yves Saint Laurent foundation £42
or Huda Beauty foundation stick (sadly discontinued).
Gucci blush £42
Lisa Eldridge mascara £29
Hourglass eyeshadow quad £60 ish
Zoeva eyeliner £18
Benefit eye pencil £22
Clarins lip oil £20 or Clinique black
honey £20 ish

= £262

Thought would be more.

What a waste! That money could be in your savings OP ready to contribute to your children’s university costs or a deposit for a house for them.

Yes! This! OP you are presumably a woman and therefore should be spending the allowance your husband provides on your children or grandchildren, or perhaps your elderly parents, certainly not frivolous fancies for yourself.

I mean, it could, but…it’s not their money, it’s mine?! In my case my OH and I save each month for the children, but also are we not allowed to buy things for ourselves in this life?! What an odd take.

Onebattleafteramother · 04/04/2026 21:40

That pp later explained it was meant in jest, just to clarify; as I was mightily confused by a later post on VB liner by the same pp.

The tldr there is apparently VB= good colour payoff, lead liable to snap, I believe. My search for reliable, peri-proof* kajal continues 😭 (<--- that's me, ruining my eye make up again)

*Yeah.peri gave me watery eyes.fml. anyway...

Well I have both savings and make up so don’t fret. Do you have a toaster? What a waste, you could use the oven grill instead.

ANagsHead · 05/04/2026 07:28

@Adelle79360, @TorroFerney - could you really not be bothered to RTFT before racing to the end? 😂

I put mine in the fridge for a few hours and then sharpen - seems to help with mine.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/04/2026 08:26

In makeup bag and drawers probably close to £500, but I used to spend a lot on LE palettes.

I’ve just bought the LE Betty palette and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’m in love with it

Any recommendations for a primer that is perfection for pores? Ive tried
Benefit
Ysl
Smashbox
Rimmel
I need perfection!

Collection Serum to Powder Primer - can get it on Amazon and cheap as chips. It's the best of alll bestest things if you want to shrink pores and stay matte - it's not a blurring primer but trust me, it minimises pores.

L'oreal 24hr Mattifyer in the white tube (with salycylic acid) also good but the L'oreal one is better if you're not as oily. Both are silicone free.

If you don't mind silicone primers Dr Brandt do one similar to Benefit porefessional but I think it's a bit less greasy.

That explains some of the odd items I found in the shared flat fridge at uni.

BigSkies2022 · 06/04/2026 18:20

@fairylightsanonooh I am preening now because my ONE eyeshadow is a cream stick by Laura Mercier. I did have one by Bobbi Brown but the colour wasn’t true on my skin and the taupe/caramel shade I was after went gingery.

I use 6 items daily, plus get my brows tinted from time to time. Those items add to about £200.
