My Estée Lauder foundation alone is over £100. Lasts for months though and I wear it every day.

Mind your own business. People can spend their own money on themselves if they want.Even if op has children she will already have spent thousands on themselves over the years. Im sure they are capable of earning for themselves when adults.

Yeah, agree....downvote 👎

On a purely maths level, £30 otherwise spent on touche eclat, is a tiny droplet in the vast sea of a child's uni or house fund years from now. (Also at the rate the economy is going it'll buy beans on toast by next term if that.)

I know financial wisdom says to save every penny, and that's all fine but in s&b esp a premium make up thread, we're allowed to shelter from the storms of the wider world for a post or two

PinkNailPolish2026 · 03/04/2026 20:54

Day to day makeup probably over £1k. Mostly Dior, Chanel, YSL, Charlotte Tilbury, La Prairie and Cle de Peau Beaute. I’ve got a few VB bits too but I’m not impressed. I wear a full face of make up every day.

namethisbird · 03/04/2026 21:36

Cherrytree86 · 03/04/2026 18:21

does the Victoria beckham eyeliner smudge? I’ve heard it’s really soft and creamy so wondered if it might be prone to smudging/transferring?

Once it’s on it’s on. I wear cocoa and cinnamon the most.

ladypete · 03/04/2026 22:14

I’ve just worked mine out to be around £362 excluding brushes but including lash curlers.

That’s not my whole collection, just the bits I reach for daily.

FredaMountfitchet · 03/04/2026 22:24

Primer £15
Eyebrow tint £7
Eyebrow fixer £13
Concealer £11
Eyeliner £19
Undereye miracle worker stuff £12
Eye shadow crayons x2 £26
Mascara £28
Highlighter £8
Foundation £18
Bronzer £20
Blush £24
Lipstick £ 12
Setting spray £ 8
Gosh over £200 that’s just my make up for a going to work day !
I have lots more makeup but that’s only contents of bag if I was doing my work face !
Wow I am shocked not particularly high end either !
Reflecting on that I must easily have around £1000 worth of make up !

Illegally18 · 03/04/2026 22:24

fairylightsanon · 03/04/2026 13:32

Not entirely sure I should add it up but that’s eyeshadows only

Gosh! Impressive!

Why the fuck would you be buying that and not putting it in your childs university fund. Disgraceful.

It's somewhat of a u- turn from the pp isn't it

patooties · 04/04/2026 00:21

The VB eye pencil things I love. But I find the ‘lead’ in them breaks a lot. I told a mate who was asking about them and said ‘yeah look great on but they snap all the time’. She told me to tell them as based on the conv we’d had she wouldn’t be buying them.
so I did. And fair play to them they replaced the two pencils free of charge no quibble. So I can recommend the customer service team at VB and will be investing in more.

Who would have thought that an innocent thread about make up could take such a dark turn?

Is this a joke? @IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece

Not everyone has children.
Some people can afford to do both.

She's joking given the poster she was replying to made a shitty comment about wasting money and not helping children with a house deposit.......then asked about VB eyeliner

It didn’t land as a joke.

ANagsHead · 04/04/2026 07:51

Nevertheless, it’s a shame half the thread has been disfigured by posters who refuse to read with even the minimum amount of attention.

GameOfJones · 04/04/2026 07:58

Anyway I'll add my day to day routine up......mixture of high end and budget.

Clarins beauty flash balm as a primer - £39

Milk hydro grip skin tint - £34

Givenchy Prisme Libre powder - £47

Rimmel Scandeleyes eyeliner - £5

Elf Xtender tubing mascara - £8

Elf camo liquid blush - £8

Laura Geller jelly tinted lip balm - £14

Urban decay setting spray - £29

Total = £184

I'm actually pleasantly surprised! It's not my whole collection, I have multiples of eyeliner colours, lipsticks plus some Bobbi Brown eyeliners and Benefit blushes and bronzers I don't wear every day.

I’ve paid attention. It’s a shame it was posted at all. Don’t blame the people who took it at face value and reacted accordingly.

Cherrytree86 · 03/04/2026 12:58

What a waste! That money could be in your savings OP ready to contribute to your children’s university costs or a deposit for a house for them.

The amount I spend on make up doesn’t impact the contribution we make to the future of our children, so don’t you worry your pretty little head about it!

DeafLeppard · 04/04/2026 08:12

Every day makeup probably low hundreds.

At the risk of being boring, this reminds me of a Reddit thread by a loss adjuster, who said people always underestimate costs to replace like for like after a loss (fire/flood), so insurers will write you a cheque for e.g. £500 to replace bathroom contents - but if you can itemise stuff they’ll give you the cost of replacement. So once a year I go round and photograph rooms and their contents so if the worst happens I can make a decent claim because I can evidence that like for like replacement of my makeup bag would run to £400. My perfumes alone would be north of £1000.

I think I must be the only person who took this as a joke based on the absolute shite that people come out with on threads about expensive bags. Clearly nobody actually thinks that a few hundred pounds is going to make a big difference to a house deposit

I’d hate to think and now I’ve just had to fork out for a load of hypoallergenic eye makeup as my eyelids are having a tantrum and have developed allergic contact dermatitis to all my other makeup (which has previously been fine).

Off-topic

Use Palpebral eyelid cream by laboratoires SVR every night and your eyes will be ready for ANY make up the following morning.

Source: own experience, started using it after a particularly bad bout of dermatitis, recommended by an Italian pharmacist when my eyelids were all covered in flaky scales.

You know, after all the time I've wasted spent on this godforsaken site, I took you seriously at first, too ... especially given that long thread a week or two ago with several posters saying no one ever needs to buy a coffee while out, because they could have taken a Thermos full in their bag ....🙄

Anyway, those Westman Atelier sheer lipsticks look gorgeous. Are they as nice as the Merit ones?
