School bag Longchamp

I am looking to surprise dd with a Longchamp bag for her birthday. She likes the navy, paper and black colours.

But which is the style that all the girls are wearing to school?

Is it this: Le Pliage Original Large Shoulder Bag
https://www.johnlewis.com/longchamp-le-pliage-original-large-shoulder-bag/black/p5051141?gad_campaignid=20158965733&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1xjO7bxkKRJ6yqwM7ityjWPI&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4PPNBhD8ARIsAMo-iczwYKcXCwun-dVEfNsaTdW4i49m_b6JP5jda-YRCYJNvGrWqNy1HdkaAlFJEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&s_ppc=2dx_mixed_fashion_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2

Or the medium sized one?

I know it's got long straps so can be worn as a shoulder bag.

Please help.

This is exactly the one my daughter has (in large) and its perfect. Had for a year and lasted really well.

Folliesandfriends · 20/03/2026 13:20

Good point about letting her choose, we will have to order it online together. In case she is undecided (very likely), black or navy bag with a navy blazer?

I wash my Pilage bags, when they get grubby, on a short wash in the washing machine. I use non bio powder and no conditioner. The leather has always been fine.

Interesting. Do you use powder specifically rather than liquid or does not matter?

user88766554 · 20/03/2026 13:26

My dd has a navy one with navy blazer and black coat

handsdownthebest · 20/03/2026 13:37

DD had the purple one for school from Y9-12.
They are hard wearing.
Only the corners were worn after 5 years of use.

KaliforniaDreamz · 20/03/2026 14:02

I'd go for Navy, large. private school bag of choice.
they last forever too, so although seems £££ you get what you pay for.

TokyoSushi · 20/03/2026 14:05

Navy large is 'the one' here too.

Toomuchstufff · 20/03/2026 14:06

Mine has a black one and it has worn really well. Waterproof. I had a little key chain made with her name on which attaches to the zip pull so she knows which is hers. Also good for hand luggage and overnight trips.

nothingtoseehereatall · 20/03/2026 14:08

My DD has the navy blue large. Its an extremely common choice in our part of London (she's not at private school btw). Yes it was pricey but I got it for her as a GCSE results present/ congratulations. It's wearing really well so far.

I also got her some separators/ internal pocket things from Ali Express (cheap and cheerful, obviously no one cares what they look like it's just to help find things). Also got her a cute fake mini Le Pilage keyring from there too.

2026ontheway · 20/03/2026 14:11

Love mine although alas am middle aged not teen.

Agree wirh short delicates wash, I use liquid.

Massive agree to organising liner, yiu can also get these for kanken which is game changer.

nextchapterplease · 20/03/2026 14:15

My year 10DD got the large black one with an organiser inside to replace a cheaper tote she switched too after a much more practical back pack in year 7/8.
definitely the bag of choice for GCSE years at her school and it fit everything perfectly but much to my happiness she has currently decided her back pack is more comfortable and is using that one day to day!

Mischance · 20/03/2026 09:58

There will be cheaper options that do the same thing!

Yes, you'll find a nylon bag like these for about £5 on the market.

Hideous bags that no-one would look twice at if it weren't for the name, but teens want to fit in - we've all been there!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 20/03/2026 14:33

Navy large here too

You can fit a laptop and folders into the large one. Avoid pale colours as they look grubby within minutes. Expect it to get lost or stolen from amongst the 20 other black or navy ones. Consider a different colour instead.

Never had an issue with DD’s getting lost/stolen (or heard of this issue whatsoever to be honest!). Even in a school where navy longchamps may as well have been on the uniform list (there must’ve been 100s!!) it wasn’t a problem.

redhairedgirl7 · 20/03/2026 14:42

My DD has the large navy one, which she got as a GCSE results gift. We went to the Longchamp shop on Regent Street to get it, she loved being able to look at the different colours and choose the one she wanted.
Definitely agree with other posters that it’s worth getting an internal organiser for it (she got hers on Amazon).
She uses it everyday for 6th form (not private) and it fits a surprising amount in it. She hasn’t complained of shoulder aches.
I’m sure your DD will love it.

DoctorMartin · 20/03/2026 14:43

They last well and are worth the money but worth looking on Vinted too for slightly cheaper new without tags?

Marylou2 · 20/03/2026 14:50

Soontobe60 · 20/03/2026 12:32

Where do you live that paying £125 for a school bag is normal? That’s crazy money!

It's a lot of money but they're happy to get them for Christmas or Birthday usually. Great one to mention to the grandparents.

Epli · 20/03/2026 15:15

I think we are missing the 'buy her 20p Tesco plastic shopping back and put £124.80 into the savings account instead' post in order to complete the usual bag thread pointless advice bingo.

Branded shopping bags were all the rage when I was at school. 😃

At my local secondary school they are only allowed the navy ones. It seems 90% of girls have a pliage

Oh no are these school bags now?? Does this mean they are no longer a choice for the style conscious adult? Help I have two and use them to death! do I need to consign them to the back of the wardrobe?

(Lighthearted in case not obvious)

I have one in paper that I use as my gym bag with an organiser inside. Love it.

twilightcafe · 20/03/2026 15:55

DD has the navy one. Seems to hold up well.

I use a dark purple one as a work/laptop bag. Got a khaki one for travelling.

£125 for a school bag! The world's gone mad.

Loads of parents are prepared to pay that, though. Most of the girls where I teach have them, mostly navy or black.

Non selective state school bag of choice as well!
