School bag Longchamp

I am looking to surprise dd with a Longchamp bag for her birthday. She likes the navy, paper and black colours.

But which is the style that all the girls are wearing to school?

Is it this: Le Pliage Original Large Shoulder Bag
https://www.johnlewis.com/longchamp-le-pliage-original-large-shoulder-bag/black/p5051141?gad_campaignid=20158965733&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1xjO7bxkKRJ6yqwM7ityjWPI&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4PPNBhD8ARIsAMo-iczwYKcXCwun-dVEfNsaTdW4i49m_b6JP5jda-YRCYJNvGrWqNy1HdkaAlFJEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&s_ppc=2dx_mixed_fashion_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2

Or the medium sized one?

I know it's got long straps so can be worn as a shoulder bag.

Please help.

If the blazer is navy but winter coat black will navy or black 'go' better? Six months in the year she is wearing a (navy) blazer only. The rest of the time a black puffer.

DD has the pomegranate colour, still looks clean, doesn’t get missed in the sea of blue and black ones

This is not the kind of thing to ‘surprise’ with. I would suggest asking her because it’s something she really wants and it would be awful for her not to have the actual one she wants because you chose it based on what MN said ‘is the style all the girls are wearing to school’

Please please just ask her. The disappointment of getting it not quite right is far worse than getting no bag ime.

Do you not wear a bag? That's not an unusual term, surely?

Yes, you wear a bag. (Unless it’s a grab bag)

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/03/2026 12:10

OP - I think I agree that as you don’t know the colour she’d want, you need to get her input. You could make a nice day out of going getting it together.

MuffinCoffee · 20/03/2026 12:29

Great bags and can carry a lot more than you can imagine but depending on the school commute it can be painful to carry on one shoulder. A backpack is more comfortable and also may need a laptop case as the bags are very thin.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 20/03/2026 10:37

Yes, but teenage girls want the real thing!

Round here it’s definitely the bag of choice.

Where do you live that paying £125 for a school bag is normal? That’s crazy money!

I carry mine. That’s why it has handles

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 20/03/2026 12:35

In what’s the bottom 10% of deprivation (handy for University contextual offers Grin). I’m sure some of the Longchamps are fake. Most are real.

My three DDs don’t have them, btw. DD1 and 2 were too old (22 and 25 - they assure me the bags are for school kids only).

It belongs with a red lip and a jean.

Quite common at the private schools here, I guess if you've got £25k a year to spend on school fees a £125 on a bag is small change! DSD has one, I always thought they were for middle aged women but clearly she's more stylish than me ;)

DancingNotDrowning · 20/03/2026 12:36

bag of choice at DDs school she has the pink which is also popular as well as the navy.

no concerns about them getting lost for being indistinguishable. They all rattle around with their body weight in bag charms attached so are easily identified as their own

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/03/2026 12:39

What about the corner wear?

This reminds me of the various trends and bought into by certain parents - whether it is a certain sweatshirt or a moisturiser. There is no way I would be buying a teenager a 125 pounds bag for school. If they have their own money then they can do so. It's often the parents who can least afford it who do so too. There are fakes of course.

Anotherdayinparadiseisntit · 20/03/2026 12:42

I have the navy one, used to use it for work and was great as could fit a lot of things inside. However things were always getting lost so I bought an organiser to fit inside and means I can keep everything tidy, maybe get one of these as well?

Mosaic123 · 20/03/2026 12:52

I don't have one but like the look except that the handles look too thin and would cut into your shoulder.

Fine if it just has a few light bits and pieces inside. Not for a laptop and books though.

Am I wrong?

StationJack · 20/03/2026 12:54

The kids round here all seem to have black Nike or Adidas backpacks.

If she's carrying anything heavy in it, I'd be concerned about shoulder strain. I would recommend a rucksack for her laptop!

Folliesandfriends · 20/03/2026 13:11

She has the Kanken, which is the go to rucksack for year 7 and 8 but from year 9 the girls all have bags.

I'll ask her to choose the colour, probably wise.

OP posts:
Worrieddancemum · 20/03/2026 13:11

They are actually really well made, i was convinced my daughters would break due to how heavy her laptop and all of her books are, but it’s very hard wearing!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 20/03/2026 13:13

School bag of choice for all round here. I have one from 20 odd years ago that still looks new and has had regular use. DD didn’t want it though as it’s brown. She went for blue (like 99% of her class) but I did take her to choose and that was fun and part of her deciding to get one as there are so many handle options. Could you do the same?
And please don’t do a backpack - if she wants one of these bags, it’s one of these bags she wants. I lug around my work laptop in a handbag so DD would just laugh at me if I tried to tell her it was a heavy thing to carry that way

I’ve got a navy one too with an organiser but I’ve had it for years and don’t use it daily. It’s a handy tote bag though.
