Welcome to style mavens old and new to continue our chats.
Hopefully more bling if there's another banquet on the horizon?

Meghan

@Maireas I'm another outlier, as I do love that colour (though I don't think I could pull it off myself). I don't actually mind the cut of the dress, I'd like to see a better photo of it - it looks rumpled but I think that's just Meghan's posture in those photos.

Out of the 2 dresses, I do much prefer Carey's (cut, material, style), but her styling is really what makes it a wow look. It's a more polished look.

Meghan's posture in those 2 photos doesn't do the dress nor her any favours. I'm also not a fan of her hair or makeup this time. The dress gives me a slight Gatsby vibe, so a low 20's style bun, with a darker lip & eyes, and better shoes would have been how I would have styled it.

Edit spag

I'm an outlier here - I like Meghan's dress. I love chartreuse, it's a colour I wear a lot because of my skin tone, and I think it suits her. I think the issue is probably her posture - she's engaged in conversation and leaning forward a bit, but otherwise I like it.

I like the colour too. I like green in all of its iterations and I can get away with chartreuse or a sort of “off” green as well. I do think, however that Meghan has fallen foul of her usual issues again - poor fit and creasing

Have only really just caught up and I agree that Leti’s suit is fab on her. Much better than the weird oversized stuff she wore for a while

Maireas · 12/04/2026 16:11

Good points, @MrsFinkelstein and @smilesy .
I think there is a Gatsby vibe, and I do agree that her hair would have looked good in a low bun. Her makeup is lovely and natural, though.
I'm not so keen on Carey Mulligan's dress, the shade of green isn't quite right, imo.

@Maireas I do also prefer the colour of Meghan's dress, but I think Carey just has a better overall look.

I think I'm just waiting for Meghan to do something different with her makeup, it's pretty much always the same. And while she looks great, I'd like her to mix it up a bit, and just go for a bit of a different look - that dress just feels like a bit of a missed opportunity for me.

CreepyCoupe · 12/04/2026 16:58

I love the colour of Meghan’s dress with her skin tone. But the satin is very unforgiving. She’s got a lovely figure but it makes her look fat across her belly and I doubt that she is.

RomainingCalm · 12/04/2026 17:00

Choux · 12/04/2026 12:39

Yes and especially someone referencing a model wearing it. Where can we find that?

It’s not hard to post a link or a photo and it keeps the chat going more as 10 or 20 people won’t each go off and google to try and find what you are talking about. If people are struggling to post links or photos we can help explain.

That’s a bit unfair @Choux. I made the reference to the model - I’d seen it elsewhere. I didn’t have chance to find the picture again and hadn’t released that I’d somehow broken an unwritten rule on this thread, particularly since I frequently add photos.

deeahgwitch · 12/04/2026 19:55

Did I read the details about Meghan’s dress correctly- is it viscose.
I really dislike viscose fabric in a plain colour. If it is patterned it’s not as bad.

She's slouching which just does nothing for the dress. The colour is lovely on her.

eggandonion · 12/04/2026 20:13

It's a really unflattering photo. Poor Meghan.

themessygarden · 12/04/2026 22:28

I too like the colour and think it could have looked good on her in a different design of dress.

I will never understand how she can look at some of these clothes on the hanger and think they look good enough to wear at a public event, or anywhere.

ExcellentDaydream · 12/04/2026 23:21

Sorry, the Meghan references without a photo/link threw me too, I was scrolling up and down thinking I'd missed something.

The dress pulled and clung most unflatteringly, at first glance I thought she had a bad case of VPL but think it is just seams and creases.

MrsFinkelstein · 12/04/2026 23:29

I think the bias cut of the dress was a good choice for Meghan - she has quite a boxy torso with wide shoulders, so the design of the dress gives the impression of curves and shape. I think she needed better shapewear underneath it all to smooth it all. I've been hoping to see more photos as I think had she stood up straight and not hunched it would look far better. Not seen any yet.

RockaLock · 12/04/2026 23:30

I have nothing to add re: recent royal fashion, but it tickled me that in the Poirot book I am currently reading, one of the suspects is ruled out because she is “far too county” Grin

FallenNight · 13/04/2026 09:03

Not sure if that works, but another pic of the green dress on Meghan from another thread I have just been looking at. Standing better, much more flattering.

D'ya think? Hmm. Perhaps if she dropped the ingénue head-lolling (and the close hugging in the other pic) it would look a bit more dignified? Anyway, it still looks a lot better on her than it would ever have done on me!

Now it looks like it’s gaping round the arms, though. Nothing ever seems to fit properly 🤷‍♀️

ExcellentDaydream · 13/04/2026 13:54

Still clingy and all puckered in the skirt area though.

eggandonion · 13/04/2026 19:39

Satin is difficult for most people to wear . I often think the most unflattering photos of Meghan are used...she should be aware of wearing slips and having lining and similar. (Im currently wearing a jumper that's too big and black leggings that are only slightly faded so my fashion advice may not be the best).

Teddy589 · 13/04/2026 21:18

I’m struggling to think of anyone who would look good in Meghan’s dress (certainly as she has worn it, I totally agree with the comments re a lining or good shape wear being needed). I’m not a fan of the colour either.

I'm also having a look at tickets for the QE clothes exhibition, it looks amazing.

NewAgeNewMe · 13/04/2026 22:06

Very interesting thank you. On the few occasions I’ve used a personal shopper in John Lewis and previously Debenhams, I’ve worn the clothes over and over. Always something I’d never have thought of either.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 14/04/2026 07:27

This navy dress looks good on Meghan. I definitely prefer it to the chartreuse one.

Those heels though!

I'm not sure about the buttons, but that's because i don't like big obvious buttons on clothing. It fits her well and suits her. The later brown outfit is less successful for me.
