Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

Does anyone remember Estée Lauder Lucidity foundation, I think it was before the Double Wear, similar bottle. Probably not, you’re all likely too young! I’m ancient. It was gorgeous, I loved it. Pale Ivory was perfect for my deathly pallor.Of course it was discontinued like all the best things seem to be or they change formulas. Nothing changes for the better or so it often seems.

Edited

I do remember Lucidity. I never had it but I remember seeing it.

Can I ask which setting powder you use? I never use powder (don't need to with the old double wear) but think I might need to if I have to wear an alternative.

I’ve just been using Revolution but I’d love to hear recommendations, because I never used it that much with DW

minnowonthesay · 23/02/2026 17:54

I like the By Terry Hyaluronic Powder or Beauty Pie Wonder Powder

Fluperson · 23/02/2026 18:08

Tried No7 Stay Perfect today. I like the colour range but it doesn't set properly so my eyebrow pencil just kind of sits on top and rubs off easily. Creases easily too. Best of the bunch I've tried so far but I'm still not happy. I think Colourstay has talc and I don't like talc in make up.

Fluperson · 23/02/2026 18:57

Maybe I can make the No7 one work if I had a good primer on. Any recommendations? I don't want it to feel thick and like I'm caked in layers. With Double Wear it's was one and done - I didn't need primer, concealer or powder... Now I'm looking at having to wear the lot.

I’m using the new Double Wear and getting used to it, I use a buffing brush to put it on and then almost press it in with a sponge and it does look good and stays - the only thing I have noticed is I’m getting little whiteheads? Never had them before, not angry spots either, just little odd white lumps, anyone else getting this?

Me too! Disappointed! Been using DW for 10 years, i was Fresco changed to 2N1 about 4 years ago as Fresco was too pink. New DW looks very pale? Gutted as 2N1 was perfect. Went to counter and assistant said 2N1 in the new DW has not changed... anyone else 2N1?

minnowonthesay · 23/02/2026 22:45

The assistant told me exactly the same about 3W2 Cashew, I was ready for her, I whipped out my old bottle and put it on my hand, then got her to put the new formula next to it, there was no disputing after that!

SL129 · 26/02/2026 15:14

Contacted a seller on Amazon to find out if what they were selling was new or old formula, they replied to say old and put the price up nearly £10 🙄

EBay is your best bet. I got 4 bottles from there of the old formula

KhakiBeaker · 27/02/2026 11:54

Its not worth buying the new formular one, its extremely watery and I have 3n1 ivory beige so I ordered the usual and its now a totally different colour its very orange, coverage is deffinatly not full coverage either. Ive never seen such a watery foundation and ive tried every foundation possible and always ended up back at the double wear but not any more. I think even the Revlon foundations are much better than this new formula

I'm an Ivory Beige person too. I got a sample of the new one a couple of weeks ago and completely agree that it's a different shade and is too orange. It got worse as the day went on too as it oxidised on me. I found an unopened bottle in my drawer thankfully and got two more from allbeauty.com but looks like they only have limited shades left now.

Gonegrey31 · 27/02/2026 16:33

Further to my earlier post I am a long time wearer of shade Ecru, 1N2.
I was colour matched for 1N1 ivory Nude which is much too yellow despite the sales assistant saying that this was the closest shade in the new formula to Ecru.
However a sample of shade 1N0 is a good match for the old Ecru . I’ll see how it wears and will report back

Sofachick6 · 28/02/2026 21:39

I’ve been out and tried YSL All Hours today , got it less than EL too. It’s not bad like

TeaRoseTallulah · 08/03/2026 09:20

Just revisiting this thread to say I've figured out how to use Colourstay now. It took a while and a bit of playing around but if I mix a blob of No7 Lift and Luminate primer with the foundation then dot it on my face and blend with a BK Beauty 101 brush ( which is AMAZING) then I get a better finish and colour than with the DW. I've caught myself in the mirror a couple of times and really liked the overall look. Hope everyone else has managed to find alternatives too.

Bougainsillier · 08/03/2026 09:23

Any Fresco users out there… I have compared the new and old colours and they’re a good match

Fluperson · 08/03/2026 11:15

Still not found an alternative here. Everything just wipes off and transfers too easily - nothing seems to "set".

WhereAreWeNow · 08/03/2026 13:48

Has anyone tried L'Oréal Skin Ink? I tested some on my wrist and thought the texture was good. It's lighter coverage than ELDW but it claims to be v long lasting.

I am Fresco. Next time I'm near a department store I'll get a tester but tbh I much prefer the Buff shade in Colourstay.

No, just True Match which I didn't get on with.

DumpedByText · 08/03/2026 21:11

I've started my own thread without seeing this first!

It's awful, I've been using it a week, no coverage, really runny, I use fresco, have done for 20 years, it now too pale. Doesn't last, blends nicely that's it!

I use the mascara and wonder brow eyeliner, they don't budge. But now it gives me panda eyes due to the hylaronic in it.

I'm gutted, any suggestions for something similar?

Fresco is very pale now, I've used that colour for years to.

I think I replied on your thread but try Revlon Colourstay in Buff,it's fab for my colouring, really neutralises the red.

Sofachick6 · 09/03/2026 07:38

a Few months ago when I ordered DW I was given a free full size primer. I found it bloody awful with the foundation.

I pulled it out this morning and it seems to work way better with new DW. How strange.

im sick to the back teeth of trying foundations and primers this week 🤣

I am a full time user of that particular primer so I will try this trick once I've got a shade match as the new 3N1 Ivory Beige is way too orange for me! Will try and get one this week.

I do about equal blobs of primer and foundation. I used to use Estée Lauder watery glow primer but I preferred the No7 one.
