Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

Oh and I went for True Match over the Serum as I didn't think the serum would cover enough, might get that if it's ever on sale.

My AllBeauty order was delivered to somewhere that isn't my address! The photo is not of my front door. So frustrating? By the time they sort this out, my colour will be sold out. I've had enough of foundation stress!

i Hope you sort it. I got a notification today saying mine had been delivered. Right house and everything but they threw my package under my car as it was raining and boyfriend drove over it without us knowing . My shade is out of stock now 😢

Just in case it got missed… I have a bottle of old formula Pebble that’s missing 2 pumps (yes it has a pump too). If anyone wants it before I bin it.

Bougainsillier, if you still have the Pebble I would be delighted to buy it from you.

Yep there’s been quite a few tears. It’s crap .

Fluperson · 15/02/2026 11:32

@BeeHive909 gosh what a pain!! Hope you can find another. I'm annoyed with the person who has kept my order even though my address is on there - they should redeliver it to me! It also has a Laneige lip mask in there.

WhereAreWeNow · 16/02/2026 17:40

I have a nearly full bottle of old formula (I assume it's old formula... Bought it before Christmas) in Ecru 1N2. It's a touch too light for me. Not sure if you can sell used cosmetics on Vinted or Ebay.

I think the old ELDW Light was the best. Why do they keep on messing about with it?

Darklane · 16/02/2026 20:17

Didn’t know about this change till reading this thread.
I use the pale shade Alabaster in the old formula. I have real trouble finding foundations light enough that don’t turn orange on my so really disappointing that they’ve changed it.

scoobydeedoo · 16/02/2026 21:46

Well the Revlon Colourstay stay has arrived from Amazon. Will trial that tomorrow I think and see how it holds up, fingers crossed it doesn't sink into my huge nose pores like it did the last time I used it

I've been using the new DW formula and while I still find it nice, I had a day wearing the old formula and it just looked so much better 😭 I wonder if they can ever recreate the original formula given that the secondary ingredient is banned, and it was the ingredient that gave it the really long staying power as well that I've never found in any other foundation.

Agree that DWLight was amazing. I picked up a sample of the new formula today. I have Fresco and that seems the same colour. The counter woman said it was the warmer darker colours that seemed a bit different.

I was surprised at the sheer and runny formula - more so than the old light but I like it. I did powder lightly on top to set but I think it looks better. I have very oily skin and I doubt it would survive it except for the wonder of Danessa Myericks balm underneath - I get the neutral rather than the foundation but it’s amazing at sorting oily skin. It goes in wet and almost greasy but somehow transforms and is a brilliant primer for oily skin. I think the in the bottom and the new DW on top will be good.

justasking111 · 16/02/2026 21:58

Estee Lauder lost it's way chasing the Asian market a few years ago. Discontinued my single eyeshadows etc. I don't buy anything now.

Sofachick6 · 16/02/2026 23:12

I’m on holiday in the canaries and they still have the old stuff here - if you know anyone going - stock up 🤣

Anyway I’ve come to the conclusion the new one is shite. Coverage is about 50% less if you ask me. My colour seems better -ish. But that’s it. Double wear my arse.

I don’t know anything else that’s transfer proof , I do love how MAC looks and I always have a back up bottle but still…

Fresco is my shade,so the new one is the same shade as the old one?

Another recommend for Mac Studio Fix, it’s perfect on my temperamental skin - full coverage and sets beautifully. It’s not as long wear as DW but I think a better finish especially for older skin - I have a mix of oily and dry which is fun.

Anjelika · 17/02/2026 06:51

My 2 bottles of the old formula from Allbeauty arrived yesterday plus I found another unopened box in my drawer under the bathroom sink!

I have been mixing the new one, which is too dark, with an ancient By Terry foundation which has always been too light and had great results! Takes away the stickiness of the new one and adds longevity. I will use up my two samples that way and preserve my bottles of the old formula a bit longer.

minnowonthesay · 17/02/2026 08:37

I wonder whether the old stock will be sold through the beauty stores at places like Bicester Village? I’ve bought my Double Wear from them in the past.

Fresco is my shade,so the new one is the same shade as the old one?

Certainly pretty much the same. I compared it with DW and sheer and it’s the sheer that’s a little different - but noticeable on the skin though. Here is a pic. DW is the middle, Sheer is the one that looks more elongated like a finger print (not sure which way the pic will upload).

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 17/02/2026 11:47

Right- picked up a sample of my shade yesterday and despite my plans for today are just emptying a shed and the only people I will see are the workers at the tip, I’ve put a full face on to try it out!

my shade is 2c2 - pale almond. It looks about the same. But as others have said, much thinner. I haven’t fully built up the coverage today (as said, only off to the tip!) but think it’s going to take more product to get the old look.

Normally, I put foundation on then blusher then some powder to set, but the blusher didn’t go on as well as with old DW, was harder to blend that to avoid a lump of colour. (Not sure I’m describing it well!) I’m going to play around with the sample I got to see how I get on. I might see if I can colour match with some other brands and try alternatives.

BusterGonad · 17/02/2026 11:58

Put the powder on, then the blusher. That sound help with the blending.

Thanks so much for doing that, I've just remembered I have a John Lewis gift voucher so I'll order one of the new ones as well , I might mix it with the original one if it doesn't work well.

I am wearing Loreal Trumatch today, it's irritating my skin when I get a bit warm, I've ordered colourstay as that was only £6 on Amazon so no huge loss if it doesn't work out.

I don't want to give this much thought to foundation,it's bloody ridiculous 🙄

scoobydeedoo · 17/02/2026 18:10

I tried Revlon Colourstay today, went on nicely and looked good. Had a closer look in the mirror a few hours later and it looks quite patchy, like if you look closely you can really see the foundation. And it's sitting awfully in my jowl lines. Never really an issue with DW but it was like someone had drawn my jowls on with a pencil 😭

I've just checked again after a full day wearing it and it's holding up well on my nose but definitely looks like it's sunken into my pores on my cheeks. God I sound attractive don't I 🤣

What we need is the magic and power of the original DW, at the price of the Amazon Colourstay! I hate having to pay nearly £40 for a bloody foundation but i'm also bloody vain 🤷‍♀️

Oh no,that's such a shame . I used to wear it before I started with DW, it's had a formula change since then too it'll b interesting to see how I get on with it.

TeaRoseTallulah · 17/02/2026 19:31

I used to apply it with a buffing brush, what did you use?
