Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

@TeaRoseTallulah I used a damp beauty blender, it's all I'll ever use to apply foundation, I can never get in with brushes!

I'm going to give it another go, not sure if maybe I just applied too much, went too heavy on the powder, but I'll try again 😊

Thanks so much for doing that, I've just remembered I have a John Lewis gift voucher so I'll order one of the new ones as well , I might mix it with the original one if it doesn't work well.

I am wearing Loreal Trumatch today, it's irritating my skin when I get a bit warm, I've ordered colourstay as that was only £6 on Amazon so no huge loss if it doesn't work out.

I don't want to give this much thought to foundation,it's bloody ridiculous 🙄

Ha that’s exactly how I feel - it’s ridiculous and yet when I have a good foundation my work face works! When they took the light away I tried loads and hated them all Dior and ILMakiage and Nars. I do like this one and although thing it has lasted ok but this nothing like DW was. I am surprised they have called it the same thing! I can def see that my bottle won’t last as long!

TeaRoseTallulah · 18/02/2026 15:43

Ok, Colourstay just arrived. It's gone on nicer than I remember it,I used a brush, I'll try a sponge tomorrow. Colour is good , Buff , I am Fresco in DW. Buff is meant to be neutral and I think I prefer the shade to fresco. From googling I can also be Sand Beige and Natural beige so if I change my mind I can play around. I got the normal to dry formula, it has a slight initial scent which I can't remember from using it before,it's fading quickly though. Let's hope it works as I'd love to pay £6 instead of £40

TeaRoseTallulah · 18/02/2026 18:14

Colour stay is still looking good and feeling really nice, I was very aware of the L'Oreal Truematch which I didn't like. I'll wear it out and about tomorrow and see how it lasts. I really like the shade still, not too cool and not too neutral.

shardlakem · 18/02/2026 20:18

I got colour matched for Nars Studio Fix today so will try tomorrow and report back... the formula seemed similar to DW but not sure the colour will be quite right 😭

TeaRoseTallulah · 19/02/2026 10:05

Just applied Colourstay with a brush - put the foundation on my hand and swirled it round ,then applied it to my face and then sort of blotted
It with a damp sponge- looks amazing, really pleased with it. Really hoping it lasts through the day.

minnowonthesay · 19/02/2026 10:45

I’m using the new Double Wear and getting used to it, I use a buffing brush to put it on and then almost press it in with a sponge and it does look good and stays - the only thing I have noticed is I’m getting little whiteheads? Never had them before, not angry spots either, just little odd white lumps, anyone else getting this?

Fluperson · 19/02/2026 23:24

I tried Nars Radiant Longwear today. It's terrible. It is powdery, drying, and settles in fine lines. I didn't like Mac Studio Fix either. Onto the next!

Anjelika · 20/02/2026 12:10

I'm wearing original double wear after 4 days of wearing a mix of the new and an old By Terry foundation. I look so much better today! Just confirms how good the old version really is.

Gonegrey31 · 20/02/2026 16:49

I normally use DE Sheer in shade 1N2 ECRU. I was offered a sample of the new foundation in shade 1N1 ivory Nude which I was told would be the equivalent.
Not so, it’s far too yellow . Beware of the shade differences

Fluperson · 21/02/2026 09:18

I just love the way that old Double Wear sets but without being drying / powdery. I can't find that in anything else I've tried so far!

Glad you got on with it! I tried again yesterday but mixed it with some setting spray, it seemed to look a lot better the second time round. Had rubbed off a little on the nose but otherwise it stood up quite well.

I'm thinking I might take a trip to Boots to see if I can get a few different samples of other foundations, otherwise I will probably go with the new DW as it still held up well on me. But will definitely wait till they have a money off event, I never buy it full price because I can't stomach that much on one bottle!

I wonder if the ingredient that’s in the setting sprays like Urban Decay All nighter is similar to what’s been banned? You can spritz your eyeshadow brush with the All-nighter to give your eyeshadow more staying power, I wonder if you can spritz your foundation brush with it? I’ve never used it, due to the fact that Double Wear used to last until you took it off but I’m definitely considering trying it now.

TeaRoseTallulah · 21/02/2026 12:56

Today I mixed Colourstay with Estee Lauder ANR serum and it applied REALLY nicely with a brush,it's super nice and similar to DW Sheer,I'm really happy with it.

TeaRoseTallulah · 22/02/2026 11:14

Still getting on well with Colourstay, prefer the shade match to DW. I've been mixing it with primer and it applies like DW Sheer. Feel less panicky now! 🙄😂

FunnyShaker · 22/02/2026 11:44

Its not nice, colour not the same. Goes shiny, feels tacky and makes me itch! Don't know what to do now !??

Take it back, they have a great returns policy. Then buy Colourstay and feel smug at all the money you're saving 😂

Does anyone remember Estée Lauder Lucidity foundation, I think it was before the Double Wear, similar bottle. Probably not, you’re all likely too young! I’m ancient. It was gorgeous, I loved it. Pale Ivory was perfect for my deathly pallor.Of course it was discontinued like all the best things seem to be or they change formulas. Nothing changes for the better or so it often seems.

I used urban decay all nighter spray with old DW regularly 😂

Today I gave MAC studio fix another chance, and I’m glad I did. I used setting powder and urban decay (many people don’t realise you need powder with UD) and it’s lasted all day and doesn’t look cakey at all, I far prefer it’s fresh look and decent coverage. I think I’ll keep trying this combo.

So true! I still haven't forgiven L'Oréal for discontinuing their dandruff shampoo, the blue one!!

Brilliant, I still like Colourstay especially the shade and it's lasting as well as DW

I used to love the Water Fresh from EL. The colour and coverage were perfect.

Can I ask which setting powder you use? I never use powder (don't need to with the old double wear) but think I might need to if I have to wear an alternative.

I used for the first time today. Colour is awful (I wear Ecru) and my whole face and neck feels sticky. It is all over my glasses too - which was never a problem before. I have been wearing double wear since my early 20s and now in my 50s. Never felt that I was wearing foundation with the original but this I feel on my face! So sad

I wear /wore Ecru too ,found colour darker then turned orangy. Very tacky on skin and made me itch like hell. Tried it 3 times and same thing happened. Put some of my original on and it felt so soothing .

I remember it, and I remember buying it!
