Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

Is anyone a 2N1 Desert Beige user and found it OK? Or need a better match please?

I read the N1’s have definitely changed , but I was an N0 and mines had too.

So it’s been 2 weeks or so and I’m still bothered 🤣 I’ve tried different silicone primers, I’ve tried without.

The closest I’ve got is today’s, which is Benefit Porefessional. It went on almost like DW which was a good sign, so it’s down to the wear test

Fluperson · 14/03/2026 09:28

Sofachick, how did it go? Did it "set" once it was on or was it tacky / transferring?

2 days now and I am sold on Benefit! It’s mid-high coverage, it dries quite quickly like old Estée Lauder I would say, another one where you should work fast. Which is a good sign for me.

I need something that pushes through workouts and can last long days, and if this is the closest I can get, then benefit is my new go to. I’m really pleased with it!

I’ve had it on for about 8.5hrs today. I used only a setting spray and a tiny amount of powder on my tzone. I’ve got some shine coming though now, but nothing has separated.

I didn’t use primer, but I’ve bought some benefit primer today to see what happens tomorrow.

minnowonthesay · 14/03/2026 19:38

@Sofachick6 are you using the Benefit primer with the new Doublewear or are you using Benefit foundation? I have to say I really like pore professional primer even worn alone! I bought a fantastic Max Factor skin tint on Amazon, great for my non DW days. I can rub it in like moisturiser and my 60 year old skin looks really good, poreless and almost perfect, great for just pottering at home.

Steffff · 14/03/2026 20:35

Iv used double wear now for 15years and the new one is terrible, applies patchy and doesn’t last at all. Totally gutted 😩

I haven’t tried it with double wear. I’m at the point where I think nothing can save DW but I’d give it a go.

I’ve tried it with Porefessional foundation. I have to say I love it. That’s me sorted 🤣 I love this foundation!

trying Too Faced Born This Way today just to use up a sample. it’s not quite the same coverage. But it’s doing alright

Jinglejangle2525 · 08/04/2026 08:36

I am gutted this foundation has changed, I’ve worn Estée Lauder double wear for years and then ordered a new bottle not realising the formula had changed until I saw a card that had been placed inside the parcel saying it had changed. The new one is awful, it goes on patchy and feels sticky on my skin for a while! I will have to move onto another foundation now but not sure where to start. Is there any out there similar to the original?

TeaRoseTallulah · 08/04/2026 23:24

I'm getting on so well with Revlon Colourstay that I'm annoyed I spent so much over the years on DW! Lasts brilliantly and a much better shade for me.

KevinsSignatureShortdeads · 12/04/2026 19:17

Has anyone found a good alternative to DW? I’ve tried Revlon Colorstay and it’s pretty good, and actually seems to have better oil control than DW. I’m just not completely sure on the shade (I used AI to tell me my equivalent shade and it’s done a good job, but it’s slightly more pink in tone than my DW one).

I got a sample of the new DW in the colour I use (Sand) and it is much paler than the original and ran out of the bottle like water, so I haven’t even bothered trying it.

JanuaryBluez · 12/04/2026 20:25

Also on the lookout for an alternative having used DW for around 10 years - has anyone switched to another foundation that they'd really recommend?!

I've been sampling Lancome teint idole this weekend but I don't love it.

I have combination skin.

PeonyPatch · 12/04/2026 20:56

I really recommend Dior Forever foundation. I’ve got it to replace Double Wear & Armani Luminous Silk since they reformulated and it’s my new fav.
edited to add I have combination skin.

DeeBee95 · 17/04/2026 21:23

I was running out of my current bottle and saw the reviews were horrendous on Boots for the new formula. Luckily, last weekend (11/04) I saw the old formula of Double Wear in the Cosmetics Company store and bought one! Definitely need to check them out!

TheToteBagLady · 21/04/2026 09:26

After reading the reviews of the new formula, I’m not even going to waste my money trying it

I tried the Revlon color stay. The shade is a good match, but it just doesn’t compare to EL.

Such a shame

I think I’ll have to go to the beauty counters and get samples.

BangFlash · 21/04/2026 12:51

I tried Armani mentioned way up thread. Great finish, not as long lasting. Decided to go with it anyway without knowing they changed the formula since I got my sample. New stuff isn't as good and is a different shade.

DW changed because one of the ingredients is now banned, maybe they all use it and will change?

Hels20 · 21/04/2026 21:08

I have just had to switch from Armani to Victoria Beckham. Have to say - I am pretty impressed. But the price!!

Fluperson · 02/05/2026 09:55

I've just opened and tried the new double wear after abandoning it for over a month. It smells! Kind of like marmite... It's weird! It also feels so thick on the skin and like I will crack if I smile. It is honestly worse than the cheapest foundations I've tried. Time to get rid of it for good!

TeaRoseTallulah · 21/05/2026 14:49

I was near a John Lewis today so got a sample of the new formula at last. It's horrible and feels like I am wearing a mask and it's tacky. In fact I am going to go and remove it as it's annoying me. Glad I got a tester and didn't buy the full bottle. Nothing like the old formula and nothing like my beloved DW Sheer. I will continue to use Revlon Colourstay which is a superior formula and shade match for me and save myself over 35 quid!

Jinglejangle2525 · 22/05/2026 11:26

I’m hoping they try and improve the new double wear as I still can’t find a foundation as good as the old version. And if you go on the Estée Lauder website the recent reviews about the new formula are bad and it’s currently discounted so must not be selling. I can’t understand how they could get it so wrong.

Anjelika · 22/05/2026 18:07

I was lucky enough to stock up on my main shade but now, with a bit of fake tan on me, I had to crack open my one and only remaining bottle of a slightly darker shade and will be lost once that’s finished. I wonder if there is anyone who really loved the old formula loving the new one. I imagine it is only appealing to people who never wore the OG DW for whatever reason. If you’re a seasoned DW wearer I don’t see how you can like the new one at all.

Sofachick6 · 22/05/2026 21:16

Justjessmakeup on Tik Tok is doing brilliant stuff trying out the foundations.

tumbled · 22/05/2026 22:09

I erm really like it now I am used to it but I used to like DW light and often mixed the classic with some serum. I use very sparingly so the new formula is a better fit.

Fluperson · 23/05/2026 07:48

I find the new formula thicker and you can feel it on your face. I have tried so many others and still can't replace the old dw. Best so far is Maybelline skin tint but will need a good concealer with it. Old DW was one and done - no concealer, powder or setting spray needed.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 23/05/2026 08:58

I don’t like it. I’ve really given it a good go. i have to keep reminding myself they are just a business and I shouldn’t take it personally they’ve made me look slightly less lovely every single day.
