Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

I've just tried the new formula, first impressions it looks very nice, I maybe used a bit more than I normally would but the finish seems exactly the same. It didn't really seem to be that much runnier than usual, slight paranoia that the samples the sales assistant gave me were from the old formula and not the new one!

I've put my usual setting spray on before and my usual loose powder on to set so we'll see how I get on throughout the day.

I used to use DW and DW light/sheer and I tried a whole load of other foundations (not the Armani or Giorgio Armani though) before realising an old Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum was ok and an old Chanel Vitalumiere was quite good too. Now I just use concealer.

I’d love to find a good mid price foundation as the expensive ones for me aren’t really worth it day to day.

If it helps anyone I always found that the MAC studio fix foundation was very much a close not the same but close match to the consistency and the wear of the double wear foundation.

luckily I was sent a sample of the new one about 3 weeks ago, and found it awful so stocked up on a few bottles to late before they discontinued. I did go into the store to try to get rematched but the shades (to me) are so off.

so once I’ve done with the last of the bottles I will most likely go back to the Mac Studio fix foundation as I’ve tried so many recently including the Clarins double serum foundation and everything is too hydrating for my oily skin.

I second the Futurist as a glowy replacement for DW! I’m 42 so maybe a little less oily than in my younger years, I still use a decent setting spray and it gives a lovely finish. I’ve had multiple people compliment & ask me what I use on my skin - so it must look ok, I hope!

Looking forward to hearing your update OP as I have just done the same, gone to buy a bottle and seen that the formula has changed.

In the meantime, has anyone used YSL All Hours Foundation?

Now that I know my exact shade in Armani Luminous Silk, I have a saved search on eBay. & pick it up on there whenever I spot it - usually for about £20 instead of nearly £50!!

Lots of people buy the wrong colour of foundation & then end up selling it after trying it once or twice - or there are lots of new ones too (old packaging sell-offs etc).

I'm sure it would be similar for your chosen foundation!

I saw a beauty blogger (and I genuinely never watch their videos) mention that this was happening, so I stocked up on 2 bottles before they are discontinued

Really hope the new one is as good. It’s the only foundation I’ve ever really liked.

I like the Fururist but it doesn't last on me even with primer. I usually wear the Sheer in the day as if I want something with a bit more oomph I use the original DW. I really hope it still works for me 😭

Just did a side by side (hope the picture loads)

New formula is on the top, original is on the bottom. They look pretty much the same to my eye but I'm not entirely convinced the sample she gave me is the new formula 😶 it's holding up very well, no oil shining through as it yet!

I like MAC too but that’s my back up foundation, DW always comes first, simply because it doesn’t rub off and lasts me all day, even through fitness classes. MAC ends up everywhere which is a shame because I do like the finish.

I remember the days where I could go swimming with DW on and it literally not shift! I've always hated MAC as by the end of the day it would disappear, coverage good for all of about 30 mins and then it just seems to transfer onto anything and everything.

Hate that they have to keep changing the formulas but hopefully they've done enough tests to have made the new version just as good as the old.

The blob on the left is the new and the one on the right is the old. These are both the SAME shade, now I’m seeing slight differences.

What I find is that the consistency is thinner and you have to build it up more. I’m going to do a wear test today, but already the foundation took a long time to even dry to not be as tacky. (I cannot stand the sticky feeling)

This is annoying if she did! But a win as you will still have some of the old formula. :)I know mine is the new one, as I saw her open the new bottle for me as they hadn’t had all the shades yet, and put it into the container for me to trail for 10 days. I’ve uploaded the image of the two together, if you can see them let me know!

I think if you’re wanting a finish that involves powder/setting spray etc, then you won’t like the Futurist. It’s really lovely, but I only wear it for nights out, lunch in a nice restaurant etc. For day to day, I just use a Nars tinted moisturiser.

I can see the picture, there definitely seems to be a slight difference in the shade. I think I will go back and ask them to colour match me and try the new one on my skin.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie sometimes I don't mind a slightly lighter coverage now that my skin isn't as oily as it was. I will see if I can get a sample of the Futurist as it's worth giving it a try 😊

The blob on the left looks quite a lot lighter than the one on the right.

The new formula is lighter for this shade.

But I tan in the summer and use a different shade which the new formula is much darker and more orange. Which in the original DW was the perfect match. 🙃

I’ve been wearing it since around 8 this morning and it’s not wearing well at all, I used all my normal make up products alongside the DW foundation and I’ve had to re powder about 4 times already, very shiny and greasy. Also coming away around my nose and pores are showing. 😓 I am really not impressed.

Oh no that's a really different shade! I'll need to go and get matched again and I live in the arse end of nowhere 🙄

Futurist too scented !

Reporting back to say the new DW lasted just as well as the old one, same finish, no problems with it coming off. I am definitely going to go back and look again because I am not convinced I got the new formula, I've heard so many bad things about the new formula so I want make sure what I got was legit.

Can't believe I'm getting so het up about a bloody foundation, but I've wasted so much money trying to find the perfect one and now it's gone. I suppose they must have had to destroy all the old formula, I could weep 😭
