Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

@PeonyPatchthe one on the right is definitely the new one. It looks a lot lighter whereas 3N1 Ivory Beige has gone darker and definitely oxidises as the day goes on. Back to the old one today and going to try and hunt down more old ones at the weekend. On a Reddit thread someone suggested Cosmetics Company which you find at the McArthurGlen outlets.

QforCucumber · 12/02/2026 10:54

Eurgh LF definitely only has the new one, we have an outlet about a 20 min drive away but can't get there until Saturday afternoon, here's hoping they have some. I'm desert Beige and annoyingly that seems to be the one that's the most popular so least discounted everywhere online too, nothing in my shade on Vinted

I actually prefer the lighter one in my case because it’s less yellow but that’s annoying your shade has gone darker. The new formula is a lot different. I’m off to the airport tomorrow so I might see what they have.

Im disappointed to hear Armani have changed their formula as well. I have wanted to try Dior’s foundation for a while. Might be worth shopping around now.

Just looked in a mirror and the difference between how my make-up looks today and how it's looked the past 2 days with the new one is like night & day! There's not a chance I'll be buying the new one. Thankfully I've got 2 full bottles of the shades I use in the summer but need to find an alternative for the longer term.

Fluperson · 12/02/2026 14:03

I've bought from All Beauty to see if they send me the old formula while I search for a new foundation.

minnowonthesay · 12/02/2026 15:49

I actually like the new formula, now that my colour is sorted! I did as the representative said, applied with a brush, then dabbed over with the sponge supplied with the foundation, I think it’s helped ‘push’ it in to the skin

Me too - hopefully as the photo is the old one it will be as Ive ordered 2 bottles haha.

Is the box still the same with the new formula?

BeeHive909 · 12/02/2026 15:58

I emailed allbeauty last night to ask if it was the old formula or the new one and they replied to me saying it’s the old stock and formula . So I’ve bought about 4 .

TeaRoseTallulah · 12/02/2026 16:04

All beauty has sold out of the Sheer sadly. Bugger

Fluperson · 12/02/2026 16:22

@QforCucumber no, the box is slightly different.

Fluperson · 12/02/2026 16:23

Let's share any similar foundations we find on here. I need to know what to get a sample of.

Anjelika · 12/02/2026 20:41

Thanks for the AllBeauty tip. Have just bought 2 bottles.

TeaRoseTallulah · 13/02/2026 10:24

Finally spoke to an agent at EL. No plans to relaunch Sheer ,ffs.

TeaRoseTallulah · 13/02/2026 10:28

They did say that they would feed back about Sheer as demand might make them re introduce it,so if anyone else is in the same boat then contact them and tell them.

TeaRoseTallulah · 13/02/2026 10:35

I've ordered some original from All Beauty,at least I can make it lighter with some serum. Ffs

TeaRoseTallulah · 13/02/2026 10:38

Is it only Europe they've changed the formula? I could ask ds to stock up next time he's on holiday!

Nope apparently it’s everywhere I asked the same the other day as I was hoping to get it on my travels to the states and it’s changed there too.

Oh ffs! 😢

I'm going to try mixing Futuristic and DW original and hope by the time they've finished EL will have brought Sheer back .

TeaRoseTallulah · 13/02/2026 10:51

Also going to buy the L'Oreal serum tomorrow when I'm in town and compare it to Sheer.

TeaRoseTallulah · 13/02/2026 11:22

Thinking back I used to use Colourstay before discovering Double Wear. Not quite as good but it has that sticking power that no other foundation I've tried seems to have.

scoobydeedoo · 13/02/2026 13:28

I think now my skin isn't as oily as it was I might try Revlon Colourstay again, I really resent having to pay so much for a bottle of foundation with DW. However then I run the risk of it being crap like it was before I switched to DW and I've still wasted nearly £15 😭 Really wish you could get a proper sample to take home of drugstore makeup.

Would it be socially unacceptable to take a small round tub and put a tester of Revlon in....? 👀

Colour stay is approx £7 on Amazon at the moment. They also do 2 versions, one for oily and one for dry skin .

TeaRoseTallulah · 14/02/2026 13:00

Looked at Colourstay and they didn't have my shade in Boots so I'll order on Amazon BUT I did find an almost identical match to DW in Fresco which was L'Oreal True Match Cool Rose. Looks hopeful so far, will test tomorrow.
