Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

I'm giving it another go today - this time applied with a brush to see if that helps at all. It's so annoying though when (like many on here) I've been using DW for years. I've flirted with other foundations in that time but have always come back to DW!

Fluperson · 11/02/2026 08:59

Does anyone know any outlets selling old formula?

Look on eBay, & keep a saved search for your colour.

I'm off to get L'Oréal serum today ,I'll report back and see if it really is comparable to DW Sheer. I doubt it will be,DW is the only foundation I've ever used that's been ok on my skin.

Fluperson · 11/02/2026 09:30

I've got the old formula on today and it's so comfortable in comparison. I miss it already. I'm failing to get onto a live chat on their website.

What setting spray do you use?

Urban Decay ‘All-Nighter’ it’s brilliant 👌

minnowonthesay · 11/02/2026 10:47

@FlupersonI went from a 3W2 Cashew to a 4W1 honey bronze. I got shade matched in store and then told EL online- makes sense as everyone is saying the colours are now lighter and warmer, so I’ve gone a shade deeper and a tone less warm

keepincool · 11/02/2026 13:52

I've just had an email from All Beauty advertising up to 45% off EL doublewear.

I don't use that foundation (I use the Dior Forever Skin Perfect stick or Chanel Les Beiges - both really nice on my 59 year old face) - so I'm not sure if the offer is on the old or new formula?

I'm failing to get onto EL chat too ,I want to know if a new version of Sheer is planned.

Fluperson · 11/02/2026 15:58

Maybe there's been so many requests they've turned it off

Wouldn't surprise me!

minnowonthesay · 11/02/2026 16:27

That’s the old formula @keepincool as it’s listed lasting time is shorter than the newer version, the bottle also has the old gold lid and the square bottle, whereas the new bottle has the edges chamfered off

Fluperson · 11/02/2026 16:41

Update: I called Estee Lauder and the refunded me the amount spent on Look Fantastic. I complained about the formula on the phone and the guy said the closest to Double Wear old formula in their range is Futurist Hydra but I have tried that and found it greasy and doesn't set, just wipes off.

Oh no. I have that too but it doesn't set right on my face either. Glad you got your money back. I have been googling and so many folks are saying how sticky the new one is,they're going to have to do something about it or risk losing customers.

Fluperson · 11/02/2026 18:18

Agree they will lose customers. It's all I've used for as long back as I remember and now I will be completely switching brands.

Because it's made in Belgium & we're not their only - or their biggest - market?

And because the changes made are beneficial to both the environment & humans. Cyclic silicones have been removed/greatly reduced in products as they've been discovered, at the levels that had been used, to potentially disrupt our endocrine/reproductive systems, as well as accumulate in the water supply.

And on a purely cosmetic level, they can trigger sensitivities & cause blockage of pores/acne. But I think that's the least concerning thing about them ...

It would make business sense to still make the old formula for the world outside the EU, which is the majority of Lauder’s market.

I think the Armani silk one is recommended for dry skin? Also NARS Longwear.

DW is usually recommended for oily skin though, perhaps you’re not as dry as you think if it works for you (or maybe you layer up moisture underneath)

Thanks, I might have to give it a try. I dont think I even knew that DW was supposed to be for oily skins! Mine is on the parched end of dry, so I do use a lot of moisturiser first, but it sinks in and sets really evenly over it so always worked for me

I have dry skin and it works for me so well 😢

BeeHive909 · 12/02/2026 00:35

Is it just in the uk the new design or abroad too? Because I’ll try and stock up elsewhere if it’s not abroad yet.

Hels20 · 12/02/2026 03:02

@Pyjamatimenow and @EleanorMc67 - I went to buy some more Armani - and they too have just changed formula and so the shades are all slightly different. It is a heavier,
more chalky look. I am now on the look out for a new foundation….

BeeHive909 · 12/02/2026 03:05

It’s like water?? What the hell. Where’s the thick foundation gone. I am not happy

I'd anticipated that happening. I do have a small stockpile so may have to add to it!! Annoying as I've been using it for years - but (unlike some others on this thread) I'd ultimately prefer to be using make up that doesn't harm my skin or body, or our water supply!!

PeonyPatch · 12/02/2026 10:29

Okay, I don’t know if I have actually used the new formula. Ordered DW in my usual shade “3W1 Tawny” and look at the difference in my current one that’s running out and the new one!

I know the SPF was minimal to start with, lol. But am I right to think it no longer contains SPF anymore either?

Bougainsillier · 12/02/2026 10:41

Just in case it got missed… I have a bottle of old formula Pebble that’s missing 2 pumps (yes it has a pump too). If anyone wants it before I bin it.
