Estée Lauder Double Wear has changed formula 😭

Was just about to order replacement bottles last night when "get a free beauty blender when you purchase the new Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" caught my eye.

Sure enough, new bottle, new formula. After some googling, it seems the second ingredient in the foundation has now been banned from sale in Europe. I've just been to the Estee Lauder counter to get some samples of the new formula (I mix 2 different colours) so we'll see how the new formula holds up on my oily skin.

Anyone found anything equal to or better that Double Wear for oily skin? I like a full coverage look, and need something that won't disappear on my oily nose like cheaper foundations do! I'm not hopeful about this new formula, the sales assistant told me if I use a brush and stipple it on I will get better coverage, but if I need more I can "set it" with their Double Wear Veil powder (for £41!) Apparently the ingredients that has been banned is what makes the foundation stay on so long which is one of the reasons I love it 😥

Oh, and to top it all off, the old DW pumps do not fit the new DW bottles 😡

I got the futurist and the double wear in the same shade and mix together. Still lamenting the loss of my perfect ysl foundation.

I’ve switched to MAC studio fix and have been absolutely thrilled with it

Reporting back to say the new DW lasted just as well as the old one, same finish, no problems with it coming off. I am definitely going to go back and look again because I am not convinced I got the new formula, I've heard so many bad things about the new formula so I want make sure what I got was legit.

Can't believe I'm getting so het up about a bloody foundation, but I've wasted so much money trying to find the perfect one and now it's gone. I suppose they must have had to destroy all the old formula, I could weep 😭

Definitely come back once you get a different sample and let us know! Im interested to see if it’s just me that’s having issues with it.

I wore mine all day yesterday and I couldn’t wait to take my make up off. I hate it. Im gutted it was slipping away and even felt so greasy and uncomfortable. Kept having touch up with my powder.

This is my plan 💕

JengaCupboard · 06/02/2026 14:07

I used to use DW, I switched to Bare Minerals liquid pro - I think they call in BarePro Matt 24 or something now - it stays brilliantly for me, and is very buildable.

Springbella · 06/02/2026 14:12

I ended up going with Dior Forever Skin Glow I hated the new formula.

PeonyPatch · 06/02/2026 16:51

I really do recommend Armani Luminous Silk foundation!

I really do recommend Armani Luminous Silk foundation!

Me too!! It's wonderful!!

trakehner · 06/02/2026 21:11

Thankfully I read about the change a few days before the launch so was able to order a couple of bottles of the original DW for a bargain price from LookFantastic who were clearly trying to shift their remaining stock. I just know the new formula will not suit me, I’m not a fan of “glowy” it looks good on me for about 30 mins and then just makes me look shiny and slides off my face completely after a couple of hours! I have tried SO many foundations (personally the Armani Luminous Silk was one of the worst for face slidage and the coverage was so minimal compared to DW). Like a pp I also hate the sticky feeling of foundations that don’t dry down quickly, so despite spending £££ on other foundations I have always come back to DW, found it consistently reliable and it always worked for my skin. I’m gutted it’s now gone 😭. I will try the Mac Studio Fix at some point as that is one I haven’t yet tried. It anyone can recommend any other full coverage foundation that can be worn and will stay put without primer, powder or setting spray, please let me know!

minnowonthesay · 06/02/2026 22:52

I got the new version today from Next online in shade Cashew, it’s lighter in colour than the old formula 🙄

HangryLilacKoala · 06/02/2026 23:01

Just come to say that Mac reformulated studio fix foundation 2 years ago, so I’m afraid I haven’t tried the new formula so I couldn’t actually tell you if it is a suitable alternative anymore. 😭

MrsPerfect12 · 06/02/2026 23:13

Double wear is my go too. I hope you get on well with it and the change isn’t too significant.

I have recently purchased the benefit foundation and really like it. Coverage is really good and the colour match was perfect - I would say definitely on a double wear par. Maybe see if you can get a sample.

i see another poster recommend mac. I’ve tried and tired as I like the foundation but the colour I just can’t get perfect.

Armani Luminous Silk I also wear but more as a day foundation, it isn’t “enough” for a night out for me.

Oh FFS. They ruined DW Light by replacing it with “Sheer” (sheer shit more like) and now they’re changing DW?

Just as I’ve been putting up with Sheer - they’ve now got rid of that too! 😩 managed to grab 2 remaining tubes

They've discontinued Sheer as well? That's my everyday foundation, nooooo 😭

Schoolstressed · 07/02/2026 15:31

Apologies if this has been mentioned, I can’t read the full thread at the moment. The makeup artist Nicola Chapman has done a review on it, she wore it for a day recently.

tempnew · 07/02/2026 15:34

I used to wear Double Wear Light but now I really like Chanel Water Fresh Tint. I was sceptical at first but it looks natural and lasts all day.

minnowonthesay · 07/02/2026 18:35

Cher Webb has also done a review on Instagram

Laiste · 08/02/2026 22:08

I've got a really old (18 months) bottle and a recent one. I'll compare the lids tomorrow. I have a feeling i've got a new formula one. It's seemed a little disappointing. I'm a Pale Almond. I wonder if anyone else here is this colour and do they think that shade has changed?

minnowonthesay · 08/02/2026 22:37

I’m cashew, that’s definitely changed. I online chatted to a customer service representative at Estée Lauder who said if I go and get colour matched, they will send me the new bottle for free. I did have to prove I’d bought the new one from Next and show the invoice but I gave a reference number to go back and quite once I know my new colour - Cashew was perfect 3W2 for me, so we’ll see what I am now.

mamaison · 08/02/2026 23:17

I went to the counter today to get a sample. The shades have definitely changed. It was also very sticky as a previous poster mentioned! I have not tried it on my full face yet so can’t report as to wear. I was open minded as the last formulation was a little dry. But this sticky finish was odd.

PeonyPatch · 06/02/2026 16:51

I really do recommend Armani Luminous Silk foundation!

I've just seen this has also been reformulated.

PeonyPatch · 09/02/2026 16:07

TeaRoseTallulah · 09/02/2026 16:02

I've just seen this has also been reformulated.

Oh really?! Why do they do this?!

Pollyanna87 · 09/02/2026 16:40

Anyone wondering why it’s been reformulated, it’s because one of the ingredients has been banned by the EU.

scoobydeedoo · 09/02/2026 18:58

I've used it a few times now, so far I'm pleased with it, it's lasted all day and the shades seem to be the same for mine (although it seems this isn't the case for most people though)

Yes it's definitely sticky which the old formula never was, but not a deal breaker for me because it still seems to hold up well.

Think I'll hedge my bets and buy a full size, I don't want to risk looking for an alternative and wasting £££ on products that don't work. I'm still gutted that the Revlon Colourstay foundation I used for years suddenly went awful on my skin, it was the perfect shade for me and so much more affordable 😭

minnowonthesay · 09/02/2026 19:24

I got shade matched in store today and I’m a whole shade darker but lighter on the intensity, still a warm, so I was Cashew 3w2 and I’m now Honey Bronze 4w1. I bought the new pump too and the Estée Lauder lady gave me a sponge, I did also buy one of the new coloured lip balms which are gorgeous, in shade raspberry.
