But you’ve just suggested exactly that!

How does nude match with the dress> it’s navy and green?Confused

onetrickrockingpony · 01/02/2026 09:47

Stunning dress. I strongly disagree with navy shoes - you’ll drag your look straight back to the 90s and navy is very work-wear.

Try a colour or gold/silver depending on your jewellery. Cream would be better than nude.

Don’t listen to PPs regarding hats - they really aren’t necessary for a modern wedding, and they get in the way. An fascinators just look silly. Best to just get your hair done and wear beautiful jewellery.

RampantIvy · 01/02/2026 09:48

Are all dressy shoes pointed these days (shudder)?

You’ve suggested matchy matchy bag and shoes.

Bikergran · 01/02/2026 09:50

Lovely. Depending on time of year, maybe add a wrap or jacket to keep in reserve in case it's cold. I would choose this and other accessories in one of the pale colours in the embroidery, as using more navy would make the outfit rather dark for a wedding.

I think it’s beautiful. I’m a bit sad your daughter isn’t helping you though. Hasn’t she suggested looking together or a shopping trip? Our kids expect us to be perfect and do all the right things but then don’t tell us what they want! I would ask her what she thinks to the dress. She may know what MOG is wearing for example, not that it would matter to me but you may want similar styles / avoid the same colour etc.

Judging · 01/02/2026 10:03

Lovely dress.

Dint wear navy shoes, that will date the look. Wear something brighter and do not match your bag. Also no hat or <shudder> fascinator, which are both dated.

Trainup · 01/02/2026 10:29

It’s lovely. I would pick out a colour from the pattern too for the shoes and hat/fascinatior. Cream would be the easiest I think but the pale green would be amazing if you can get the right green and match the hat and shoes exactly. A navy bag would be fine.

If you look at this similar Rixo dress I think it looks better with a paler shoe

rixolondon.com/products/kaila-dress-layla-mix-navy

You could wear a paler shoe but the shoes Rixo have pared with that dress are horrible.

I'd wear a strong green with that dress (although I disagree with all these confident assertions that navy is dated)

Trainup · 01/02/2026 10:31

Rumpledandcrumpled · 01/02/2026 09:54

Confused

Agree- matching bag and shoes is what is dated not matching your accessories to the outfit.

Nude shoes really are dated. And twee.

I thought that too! Matchy matchy is a definite no!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/02/2026 10:39

I agree. Nude shoes are so dull now. Yes, I’m looking at you princess of wales.

Such a shame those green ones are out of stock on your size op. I’d be looking for something like those.

Advocodo · 01/02/2026 10:39

Have you asked your daughter what she thinks too? Will the colours go with the bridesmaids colours and therefore look good in the wedding photos. I did read once to go with your normal style within reason.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/02/2026 10:46

Lovely dress. I would avoid navy and nude shoes though.

People on here always say no hats or fascinators, but the last two weddings I’ve been to pretty much everyone was wearing either a hat, a fascinator, or a very noticeable headband.

ilovefrenchfancies · 01/02/2026 10:50

have some replies from the OP been deleted? I can’t see any posts where she’s mentioned her daughter not helping her choose or posts about green shoes??

OP I’m going against the grain re hats. I love hats and was so pleased my mum wore one at my wedding, as did a few of my friends. They know that I appreciate a hat so did it for me 😊

Oh FFS - why does her daughter need to help her? She's a grown woman. It's often better to get objective opinions from those outside your circle. I wouldn't dream of helping my own mother for something like this, and didn't. She knows what she likes, what suits her and what is appropriate for different occasions.

I love the fact it’s silk. My DD is getting married next year and I have looked at some absolute
monstrosities for MOB and almost all in man made fabrics. I’m one of those people who is always hot so I’m looking for cotton, silk or linen and there’s very little available.

WildLeader · 01/02/2026 11:02

It’s very dark for a late spring wedding. Why not something more cheerful? There are alternatives on that site that would look great for spring/summer.

WildLeader · 01/02/2026 11:06

For a guest, I think this is ok, for MOB, imo it’s a bit dark/serious.

ginasevern · 01/02/2026 11:09

I'd go for matching shoes and bag in one of the flower colours from the dress. I personally wouldn't wear navy accessories. Also bear in mind you might need a little jacket at that time of year.

Because the MOG might turn up in the same thing? Because she might hate the colour.

I also think this isn’t ok, there is nothing to say her daughter isn’t helping her, and there is nothing wrong in asking a wider audience, and I’m sure her daughter would tell her if they were wearing the same thing, it’s quite an unpleasant assumption you made that was unwarranted.

BeaLola · 01/02/2026 11:23

I love it and think it's beautiful

Why not buy it with the good discount and then book a session to try shoes and bag,hat etc
