Hair change too drastic. Wtf have I done?

I know it's just hair and it will grow back. That was my reasoning for doing it in the first place. I have a lot going on and I was just not washing my hair or taking care of it properly.

It was about 6 to 8 inches past my shoulders and dyed red. I couldn't keep up with the maintenance of it
And I felt like I had too much going on in my life to deal with such long hair.

After watching too many youtube videos, I decided to give myself a bob which obviously went very wrong and I ended up at the hairdresses. He decided that a pixie (between a bob and pixie) would be god for me and low maintenance, but he's basically just giving me a pixie with a fringe.

With my red hair, I was getting Sharon Osbourne vibes. So I try to put a brown dye over the top but it didn't take at all! so I ended up using a black dye I had in my bathroom.

So now I have Kris Kardashian vibes.

I just hate it so much. It's too dark for me.And I feel like all my femininity has gone.

I feel Ive aged myself 15 years.

I have a schwarzkopf colour remover on the way to try and get the black out.

I feel so stupid, my confidence has dropped. My kids were shocked.

DH keeps saying it looks 'cute'but I know he loved my long hair and I can just tell he doesn't really like it but he is absolutely teying to reassure me 🤣

Oh lord. Why did I do it??? 🤣😭😭

Omg the picture is nice! I like the cut and colour. It's probably just a big change for you but it really doesn't look bad. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I passed you in the street. Leave it alone now

thechampselysee · 23/01/2026 17:33

I actually think it looks gorgeous. I think you're right it's just part of what you are going through right now, if you can, leave it alone and I hope things start to get better for you x

SirChenjins · 23/01/2026 17:34

Oh wow - that's gorgeous!!! I honestly was not expecting that OP - it's very french chic looking, nothing at all like Sharon Osbourne. Google french chic and get some inspiration from there - you can do so much with that look Smile Don't do anything more to it, it looks fab.

jackspratswife01 · 23/01/2026 17:34

I think you hair looks lovely and would be great for easy maintenance! The colour looks lovely as well and it will fade if you think it’s too dark, it will just take a few days to get used to it ✅

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 17:29

I don't really wear make up, I feel daft if I do. I just wear mascara, a liquid eyeliner (catseye) and blush.

Thanks for the calming replies.

I actually feel a lot better now.

Oh it's lovely! Nice cut and nice colour. I think you're just not used to such a massive change plus feeling low.

working4ever · 23/01/2026 17:38

It looks really really nice and colour is good with your skin tone. Very Audrey Hepburn , embrace!

Thingylingy · 23/01/2026 17:38

I had such a different vision of what it would look like. It’s gorgeous and will grow out beautifully - super cute!

menopausalfart · 23/01/2026 17:40

Ooh! That's a proper, pretty pixie cut.

NewGoldFox · 23/01/2026 17:42

It looks really good 😊

MsAnnFrope · 23/01/2026 17:42

Your DH is right, it is super cute.
you have a lovely jawline for that style and the colour suits you.
im sorry you are having a crap time. I’ve been there and remember the feeling of god I just need to do something to feel better.

Winterymix · 23/01/2026 17:42

I also think the cut is super cute - very chic and not at all what I was expecting from your description. In the photo it's giving french girl gorgeousness. It's a big change so give it a bit of time to settle. Sending ❤️

Gribouille · 23/01/2026 17:43

Oh, you had me worried! That's a lovely cut! I'm getting young Winona Ryder vibes... I like the sound of it with your eye make-up too - I bet it makes your eyes look bigger, right?

It's a bit of fun to change your hair in this dismal month - just enjoy the playfulness. 😀 And maybe trawl the charity shops for some pretty scarves in a colour that will go with that hair, find a supermarket lipstick that's a bit different for you, because you often need to change colours when you change your hair.

Love it!

Whentosayitsover · 23/01/2026 17:44

Oh, OP - I genuinely think that it’s gorgeous - both the colour and the cut. I get it’s a big change and that’s difficult for you. Give it a chance to settle on you. You may grow to really like it.

And well done for not taking crap from the ignorant posters who have no idea what it’s like to face crippling MH struggles. Wishing you all the best with your recovery. X

Barrenfieldoffucks · 23/01/2026 17:46

It does look cute, and I can tell you're the type to suit a pixie. It looks shiny and healthy too.

Breathe, and give yourself a break. Chopping your own hair off is something many of us have done, psych hold or not. I've done it, bleached it, dyed it, stripped it, you name it. It's hair, and it will grow.

Zanatdy · 23/01/2026 17:46

It looks great

Stravaig · 23/01/2026 17:47

😍 Looks gorgeous, super cute - just give it time for you to get used to it, and enjoy your tangle-free life!

I promise, the people who love you don't care about your hairstyle, they just want you healthy and happy and for you all to spend time together 💕.

GertieLawrence · 23/01/2026 17:48

I like it! Lovely colour.

diddl · 23/01/2026 17:48

Oh that is lovely.

Both the colour & cut suit you.

lovealongbath · 23/01/2026 17:49

Your hair looks amazing.

1000StrawberryLolliesandPrincessofLichtenstein · 23/01/2026 17:50

It looks gorgeous! I was expecting an awful mess from your description but it’s beautiful. I hope you can see it yourself once the shock of the big change has worn off in a few days. I shaved my head in a bad period of depression so I know it’s tough to get used to.

pilates · 23/01/2026 17:52

I really like it!

BubblesandTiara · 23/01/2026 17:52

Yes please, leave your hair well alone!

It looks cute from the photo you posted. Wear a hat, wear make-up, put sunglasses as a headband to bring attention elsewhere if it really bothers you

but gives yourself time. You will get used to it.

TheClocksFast · 23/01/2026 17:54

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 14:18

Because I had a mental breakdown a few months ago and i was getting matted from not not washing/brushing/drying it properly. And it hurt brushing the mats out

Awwww, OP. I hope you’re ok. I know it won’t help now, but one day you’ll laugh at this.

I’ve had a few hair disasters in my time (and my hair is an ongoing disaster now due to age, with no hope in sight)!

Lilactimes · 23/01/2026 17:55

oh love, it looks wonderful in that pic and the colour willl fade after a couple of washes although that still looks great. Hope you continue to feel better this year - sending love and support xx

CookingFatCat · 23/01/2026 17:55

Use the colour remover, then lots of intensive treatments to get the condition back.
