Hair change too drastic. Wtf have I done?

I know it's just hair and it will grow back. That was my reasoning for doing it in the first place. I have a lot going on and I was just not washing my hair or taking care of it properly.

It was about 6 to 8 inches past my shoulders and dyed red. I couldn't keep up with the maintenance of it
And I felt like I had too much going on in my life to deal with such long hair.

After watching too many youtube videos, I decided to give myself a bob which obviously went very wrong and I ended up at the hairdresses. He decided that a pixie (between a bob and pixie) would be god for me and low maintenance, but he's basically just giving me a pixie with a fringe.

With my red hair, I was getting Sharon Osbourne vibes. So I try to put a brown dye over the top but it didn't take at all! so I ended up using a black dye I had in my bathroom.

So now I have Kris Kardashian vibes.

I just hate it so much. It's too dark for me.And I feel like all my femininity has gone.

I feel Ive aged myself 15 years.

I have a schwarzkopf colour remover on the way to try and get the black out.

I feel so stupid, my confidence has dropped. My kids were shocked.

DH keeps saying it looks 'cute'but I know he loved my long hair and I can just tell he doesn't really like it but he is absolutely teying to reassure me 🤣

Oh lord. Why did I do it??? 🤣😭😭

It does look cute @MissMuffot , I was imagining something like Dora the Explorer but that style is really really nice and the colour works for you .
It is shiney and sleek.
It is a huge shock to the system to see something new in the mirror . But YY to make-up , sit with your mirror and some make-up and see what works .

Sorry am going to hide this thread

Thankyou for the replies.

Just feeling a bit sensitive right now and probably shouldnt have posted. I dont have the income for hairdressers and I guess cutting my hair was an extension of my breakdown. I thought it would fix things somehow. One less thing

Thankyou again

Take a breath.

It's just hair. You tried something, it didn't work. Stop for a bit, before you make anymore decisions. Live with it for a couple of weeks. Try a few ways of styling (wash and leave, blow dry, clips maybe).

If you REALLY can't get on board with it while it grows out after a few weeks of trying, then speak to a hairdresser and make a plan.

With kindness, you're making a lot of knee jerk reactions and you keep making yourself feel worse. Don't make anymore.

@MissMuffot Just come back to this and agree that that is a fab cut and colour! It'll take some getting used to for you and your partner (mine is always traumatised when I return from the hairdresser even if I have only had a trim) because it is so different but 10/10!

Lifeomars · 24/01/2026 18:10

It looks lovely, I was expecting something resembling a dark furred hamster nestling on your head. The colour is great and the cut looks as if it sets off your bone structure. It sounds like you have had a right time of it recently especially with your health and I hope things are better for you now.

I don't really wear make up, I feel daft if I do. I just wear mascara, a liquid eyeliner (catseye) and blush.

Thanks for the calming replies.

I actually feel a lot better now.

That colour actually looks fine with your skin tone !
honestly!

BajaBaja · 24/01/2026 18:15

My friend who is a hairdresser once said that Fairy liquid the green, original one strips the colour down a bit. She used to use it when it was too dark to lighten it a bit. Worth a try

The style is fab 👌
Deffo Winona Ryder vibes 🖤

I am a fellow brunette, and sometimes I add a pop of colour with accessories 😉

If you need to add a pop of colour, could you perhaps get on Temu or Shein and buy some cheap and cheerful;
Clips 💁‍♀️
Bobby pins 〰️
Thin scarves or bandanas 🧣
Head bands ➰️
Hats 👒

Your hair looks great 💕

Deal. Mine's in remission and I've got a lot to live for.

Then virtual handshake.

Please can people be kind.

I was put under a 24hr psych hold and realeased recently . I just couldnt keep up with my hair and i thought it would be liberating :(

I’m sorry this happened but we’ve all been there re hair disasters . Try head and shoulders for removing some of the colour , if it’s recently done it’s great at removing colour. I wouldn’t put the colour remover on it may go an orangey colour honestly , experiment with it blow dry it add some styling products mess around with it . Try different makeup looks sometimes a new hair colour needs your makeup tweaking a bit . It WILL grow and if it’s that short it’ll grow fast ❤️

JoBrandsCleaner · 24/01/2026 18:51

Hair burst vitamins are good for hair growth and rub coconut oil into the roots (before you’re going to wash it) and leave it for a bit.

It looks super cute!

Slatkater · 24/01/2026 19:21

I think it looks great. You have lovely hair. It’s a shock because it is so different to what you had.

Blades2 · 24/01/2026 19:22

I mean, you’re in a mess from doing a cack handed home job. I’d go back to the salon. And soon.

Why would the Op need to do that?

Her hair looks great.

Hats: you can be feminine, fun, quirky, sophisticated…. Change your look daily depending upon how you feel!

But you have to take it off every time you go indoors and then have hat hair?

I have no advice, I'm awful with my hair.

I just wanted to say, I saw your picture and I think the style really suits you. I totally understand the impulsiveness, but the black will fade. And until then, just rock it ❤️

Bryonyberries · 24/01/2026 19:51

I had a pixie cut for first time (late 40s) a couple years ago after only having long hair. I’m now growing it again. I found it very convenient though the summer. However, keeping it nice takes more hairdresser trips and I didnt feel like ‘me’ even though it looked fine. I’m growing it now and going through the transition stages and approaching it as an experiment even though it’s i. A bit of a dodgy stage right now.

TrixieCat · 24/01/2026 19:56

Your husband is right; it looks super cute! So glad you posted a photo as I had something awful in my head and it actually looks lovely! 🤩 I know it doesn't matter if it's not what you like, but it might partly just be the shock of something different. It most definitely does look great though 😁
