Hair change too drastic. Wtf have I done?

I know it's just hair and it will grow back. That was my reasoning for doing it in the first place. I have a lot going on and I was just not washing my hair or taking care of it properly.

It was about 6 to 8 inches past my shoulders and dyed red. I couldn't keep up with the maintenance of it
And I felt like I had too much going on in my life to deal with such long hair.

After watching too many youtube videos, I decided to give myself a bob which obviously went very wrong and I ended up at the hairdresses. He decided that a pixie (between a bob and pixie) would be god for me and low maintenance, but he's basically just giving me a pixie with a fringe.

With my red hair, I was getting Sharon Osbourne vibes. So I try to put a brown dye over the top but it didn't take at all! so I ended up using a black dye I had in my bathroom.

So now I have Kris Kardashian vibes.

I just hate it so much. It's too dark for me.And I feel like all my femininity has gone.

I feel Ive aged myself 15 years.

I have a schwarzkopf colour remover on the way to try and get the black out.

I feel so stupid, my confidence has dropped. My kids were shocked.

DH keeps saying it looks 'cute'but I know he loved my long hair and I can just tell he doesn't really like it but he is absolutely teying to reassure me 🤣

Oh lord. Why did I do it??? 🤣😭😭

@MissMuffot honestly the picture is nothing like I had imagined, the colour looks nice & shiny, hair looks really healthy & the cut is cute. It's probably just a shock with the drastic change. Step away from the scissors & dye & try to embrace it.

Hmmmnmmn · 23/01/2026 20:18

It looks beautiful in my opinion but I get that you feel it looks too harsh.

I would just Google hairstyles you can have as it grows out and get through the next few weeks with a future hair plan in mind. Focus on getting any hair accessories you might want and forgive yourself xxx

BarilynBordeaux · 23/01/2026 20:22

Thought it was going to look like pure shite based on your description but it’s really cool

Dragonplant · 23/01/2026 20:22

That’s such a pretty haircut OP! It looks like it really suits you. Give it a week or 2 and you’ll be used to the change I’m sure.

BlahBlah2025 · 23/01/2026 20:25

Give it time OP!! It'll grow on you and DP. It's a big shock after having long hair but I think in a few more days you're going to love it. You were very brave. Keep telling yourself that. New hair, new you! You've shed the old you and this new one is going take time to get used to, but you will and you're going to love her so hard. Please do.

Page28 · 23/01/2026 20:29

O.P - don't be so harsh on yourself.
I think your hair looks lovely.
Obviously we haven't seen the original hairstyle, but this hairstyle looks good on you 🙂x

Neveranynamesleft · 23/01/2026 20:29

Lovely cut. Vosene shampoo is good for fading colour if you wish to try and can get some but personally I think its really nice. Give yourself some time to get used to it.

Letmeloveyou · 23/01/2026 20:33

I really like it! Sounds better IMO than your hair before!

Shelaydownunderthetable · 23/01/2026 20:35

Girl it looks great!!! It’s just a big change and it’s normal to freak out a bit. Don’t change a thing!

PortSalutPlease · 23/01/2026 20:36

The colour looks nice against your skin tone. I would actually say have it cut a bit shorter, it’ll look lovely.

Purplevioletblu · 23/01/2026 20:39

I think it looks really nice and the colour, it's probably just a bit of a shock because it's a big change from what you had before x

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 23/01/2026 20:42

Could you afford some clip in extensions? It’ll be past chin length by the summer 😊 and you’ll have the lovely bob you wanted.
Please don’t use the colour strip, you’ll just create an even bigger mess.
When I was growing out my dyed black hair, every few months I’d change it to very slightly lighter colour. I went from black, to darkest brown to dark brown over the course of a year. It wasn’t too noticeable.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 23/01/2026 20:44

Oh I’ve just seen the photo! I absolutely love it! Your hair looks in lovely condition.
It’s not Kris Jenner at all. It’s really modern. Like a model would have.

Christmasjoy6 · 23/01/2026 20:47

I love this - really cool. You look great.

Hollywolly1 · 23/01/2026 20:58

I think it looks really great, lovely colour and good cool cut

Goldbar31 · 23/01/2026 20:58

I really like it and your hair looks so healthy.
i’ve stopped with the blonde highlights so hopefully mine will look as shiny as yours soon!
take care x

OneFineDay22 · 23/01/2026 20:58

The cut looks lovely and the colour looks nice and like it suits you.

It’s probably just the change that has taken you aback, and with your recent struggles - hair is a big thing for most women and can make or break your confidence. Probably why you put so much pressure on it in the first place.

Try to get used to it and enjoy it and focus on something else for a while.

Oxborn · 23/01/2026 21:00

I think it looks lovely x

Schmellywelly · 23/01/2026 21:01

OP i think the cut suits you and your DH is right, it looks cute! Give it a couple of days and it wont be a such a shock.
Also a breakdown survivor, its so hard recovering and takes everything youve got. Im 7 years out now and apart from the occassional wobble and health emergency, things eventually went back to a new normal that was bareable. The secret for me was good therapy (on the NHS so took a while but worth it) and still constantly using the toolbox of techniques my therapist armed me with.

Things will get better 💐 please be kind to yourself

Beatriz85 · 23/01/2026 21:04

I think its cute! Don't change it! Its a bit edgy, ij a good way, not boring like kardashian. It will look nice with you minimal make up

TestTubeTina · 23/01/2026 21:09

Wow - I thought it was going to be proper black. You look amazing - I'm getting a cut like that soon and if I look half as good I'll be happy! Don't touch it... just give it a week and see how you feel. I'm sure it's just shock. I always come out of the hairdressers ready to cry if I have anything drastic done, and it takes me a couple of days to make my peace with it, even if other people say it suits me.

VivaDixie · 23/01/2026 21:20

Just adding to the many many messages to say that I absolutely love this style and colour. I have short frizzy hair and would love to have such a sleek cut. It really suits your face and skin tone.

I am definitely getting young Winona Ryder vibes here - definitely no Sharon O or Kris K

ThePieceHall · 23/01/2026 21:22

MissMuffot · 23/01/2026 17:29

I don't really wear make up, I feel daft if I do. I just wear mascara, a liquid eyeliner (catseye) and blush.

Thanks for the calming replies.

I actually feel a lot better now.

I think that looks stunning! The colour looks natural to me and the cut is lovely. Honestly, I genuinely don’t think you have anything to worry about.

blondebombsite13 · 23/01/2026 21:25

Oh I think it looks cute. Can’t see all of your face but I’d say it suits you. Definitely not Kris Kardaahian.

I would agree, don’t use the colour remover. It will leave it a patchy orange colour and you’d need yet more dye over the top to fix it, and that’s not something you can DIY; colouring hair that’s just been stripped definitely needs a professional.

Just keep washing it if it’s a bit intense and it will calm down. But I think it looks good. Just focus on looking after yourself xx

Bitchcraft · 23/01/2026 21:26

Sheesh I thought it was going to look horrible but it's really nice! Wish my hair looked like that!
