The rubies are stunning and agree on those trouser suits looking spot on 👍

That ruby parure is something else!

I so love the word “parure”. I have a Peter Wimsey audio book with a significant parure in it, and I love listening to Edward Petherbridge say it. I’ll know what ut looks like next time I listen!

Maireas · 15/01/2026 09:12

It's very much an underused word 😊

Years ago I went to work for a few weeks in our firm's Hong Kong office. I was friendly with one of the women there - via phone etc. At the weekends she took me out to various jewelers because she was shopping for a parure for her sister in law's wedding present - apparently it was traditional for family members to each give a parure to the bride. I had such a lovely time looking at jewels with her - and bought a lovely pearl ring for myself (dd1 now has it).

Maireas · 15/01/2026 19:02

That sounds like a great shopping expedition, @Pallisers !

Catherine hosting the Red Roses in a lovely bright red suit. Sorry pictures aren’t greatof Wales hosts World Cup winners England www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/articles/c98plj7yej2o see here

Maireas · 15/01/2026 20:50

The pictures are fine. That's certainly a strong red! I like the suit, though

KiIIingMeDeftly · 15/01/2026 20:56

She never looks bad but I find that shade of red a bit too tomato and she's blending in with the carpet!

FromageTime · 15/01/2026 21:12

I’m not sure about that tomato red on Kate. I also really dislike the trousers obscuring shoes thing - it looks daft, like she’s got no feet.

Pallisers · 15/01/2026 21:41

I quite like that suit on her and like the colour too. Her hair is way way way too long.

Maireas · 15/01/2026 21:43

I like the cut of the jacket, though.

OP posts:
KiIIingMeDeftly · 15/01/2026 22:20

Yes, its a bit different so I am here for that. I think that trouser leg only really works for wide legs and these ones aren't quite there.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 15/01/2026 22:53

Length, not leg!

gingercat02 · 16/01/2026 08:08

I love that red, its one of my colours. Need to find a pic not on red carpet to see it properly, but generally I like it.

CurlewKate · 16/01/2026 08:58

Love the jacket-hate the trousers…

I like that suit. I think it’s a rewear. Kate really does look good in red.

Sidebeforeself · 16/01/2026 13:27

Sorry @Maireas Just seen your post. Should have known you’d be on the case!

Her earrings were gorgeous. So unusual. I do wonder if she buys all her lovely jewellery herself or it is presents.

Sidebeforeself · 16/01/2026 21:04

@HollyhockDays I really miss Past Times..they had great “royal” earring replicas

Eaumyword · 16/01/2026 21:44

Past Times was a wonderful shop!
You could get Tudor style jewellery and all sorts, including wall tapestries, which I had a moment for (it was the early '90's!!)
I like Kate's red suit. Never a fan of when you can't see feet under the trousers, but otherwise think it looks lovely.

HelenaWilson · 17/01/2026 00:00

Kate really does look good in red.

She's fortunate in that she can wear most colours. I don't like overlong trousers, though. Even if you only have to cross the pavement from the car to the venue, in this weather they're going to get wet and muddy round the hems.

I used to enjoy just looking through the Past Times catalogue.

Harassedevictee · 17/01/2026 08:12

I thought the red was a good choice, not just for the red roses but when you look at the group photo the red stands out but co-ordinates with the flashes of red in the uniforms.

I agree about overlong trousers. I hate trousers that get a soggy bottom because they are too long.
