Mary’s dress has a 4th iteration which I think far nicer than the one she wore this week. The neckline of the black lace overlay is much more flattering.

Wow. I would not have known that was the same dress.

That dress has earned its keep.

Eaumyword · 04/01/2026 07:22

I love it - she looks stunning there.

Maireas · 05/01/2026 17:02

Thanks, @KiIIingMeDeftly - some nice looks there. I like the Max Mara trouser suit and the red dress. She's had some excellent formal wear.

She's very stylish.
My faves are the bright red dress, the sparkly dusky rose gown and the light pink jacket paired with cream trousers and waistcoat.

Maireas · 05/01/2026 18:56

Yes, I like that pastel outfit. The Jenny Packham as well.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that my favourite of Mary’s dresses in that article is the brown Jesper Høvring one. 🤎 I like the red jumpsuit too.

Thanks for the link @KiIIingMeDeftly

I like Brigitte Macron's dress in that picture - she doesn't often wear patterns, but I think it's very flattering.

Definitely "menswear inspired".

Oh I love that!

Eaumyword · 06/01/2026 14:36

Oh so do I! Great contrast blouse colour as well.

Sidebeforeself · 06/01/2026 15:07

I notice that Mary has adopted Daisy's habit of wearing one glove, leaving the right hand gloveless to shake with. Interesting.
She's wearing fantastic diamond earrings, they are 16th century, originally belonging to Anne of Orange.
They certainly love a full on do!

Seem to remember QE2 always wore a pair of gloves when handshakes were incoming - think I'd be the same.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 08/01/2026 07:54

That was meant to be has NOT decided to embrace the fussy!

Yes, Anne is the same. It's gone out of fashion and favour.

I thought Anne wore gloves so that she didn’t have to actually touch the commoners she was shaking hands with!

So I think it’s interesting (and good!) that Mary’s doing it the other way around.

Less about them being "commoners" she doesn't want to "actually touch" and more perhaps about traditional outfits for women and practices in the past to do with not getting ill.
I doubt she's that pernickity!

I remember we always wore gloves to Mass on a Sunday. I had some lovely lace ones for the summer!
That all went out, as did hat wearing.
