Royal Style: Hoping for Yuletide shimmer, but not too many green coats!

I appreciate that it’s cold, but the coat draped over the shoulders with a formal gown looks a bit odd. I’m sure she could have found something more in keeping. Perhaps a cape?🤔

The Danish royals often wear repeating outfits to the new year daytime levees. I think Daisy wore the same outfit several years running. Mary is following in her footsteps by repeating the dress she wore in 2025 in 2026. If you don’t like the coat over her shoulders you probably won’t like what could be a white thermal polo neck (I’m sure it isn’t really) peaking out from the top of her dress!

At one of the levees all the ambassadors to Denmark of foreign nations go to greet the king and queen. The US ambassador to Denmark posted on X that he was honoured to have met them. I wonder if there was any small talk.

I love the dark blue velvet - but I always like Mary in the simple, more classic styles and the darker/deeper colours.

Funnily enough, I don’t mind the “polo” collar because it looks intentional. My problem with the coat is that it looks a bit like it was just “thrown on”because it is cold iyswim. A bit like someone lent it to her last minute 🤷‍♀️

This year I will cut her some slack. It is unusually cold and snowy in Copenhagen and she has to travel to Christiansborg in a carriage. She wore the coat in the carriage and on arrival but removed it for the meet and greet. Perhaps she will start planning more capes and thicker fabrics for these events but then next year could feel 10-15 degrees warmer. video of her carriage ride.

Prefer the dress as Mary is wearing it to the shirt collar shown on the model, but agree a cream wool cape would have looked better than a coat round the shoulders.

The Waleses are at Charing Cross Hospital today. Kate in a Roland Mourer suit and Me and Em sleeveless blouse. I guess someone warmed the car up before she got in it!

We went out for lunch at 1pm today. Two hours later the temperature had dropped 2c . I feel for Mary it's much colder there.
