I wonder if it has anything to do with differing Big School ages? That's a natural milestone in a child's life. In the state system it's normally 11, whereas for private schools it's usually 13. So in the Wales family, C still has 3 years of "middle childhood" and may be thought of differently to a 10 year old who will be at big school in less than a year?

Well, we've seen the Danish and Norwegian families go to church, here are the Borbons, having a family evening out, going to see "Rent". Some lovely casual wear, I like the colour of Leti's top, and Sofia in yellow. Other Stories jacket.

The kids looked fine, but blimey, I've just seen footage of those nutters wanting hugs and giving them gifts! Is that a recent thing or were William and Harry etc subject to the same when they were that age? Anyway, probably a topic for a different thread...

I hear what you're saying.... someone has actually started a thread on the RF section, echoing some of our thoughts.

So cute! Look at Sonam 🥰!
I think we have a tie with the Luxembourgers.

We look at Charlotte’s coat and think it’s a bit childish for a 10 yr old in 2025 but Kate has worn very similar coats to Christmas 2018 and the Commonwealth Services in 2018 and 2020. So Charlotte herself probably sees the coat as like Mum’s and quite grown up. I imagine she was thrilled to wear it.

I didn't think it childish. Because shes tall she does look more grown up as do my grand daughters who are only eight but look much older.

Love Margarita's outfit, a very current and great shape coat and also Sophie's outfit there.
Not keen on Harriet's unfortunately. Don't like the tiers on the skirt and it looks a bit '80's Laura Ashley.

Maireas · 29/12/2025 08:38

Yes. I'm not keen on tiered skirts. I thought this was a better look for Sophie. Nice to see the Snowdons. Margarita looks stylish.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 29/12/2025 09:35

Yes, the cream coat was nice on Sophie, though I am a bit 🤔 at these very expensive coats that look like something you could pick up in Hobbs. Perhaps they need to be seen in person to appreciate them!

deeahgwitch · 29/12/2025 10:03

I like both Harriet’s and Margarita’s outfits.

smilesy · 29/12/2025 10:10

I like Sophie’s coat and Margarita’s. I like Anne’s too from what can see of it, though pairing it with fringed boots is a choice 😆

Maireas · 29/12/2025 10:19

Yeah, I like Anne's fringed boots! I preferred her red coat though.
Same fur hat.

Love Sophie's outfit. She really does the winter coat and boots well; I've liked the outfits she's worn to Catherine's carol service over the years. David Armstrong-Jones is looking older, but can see the likeness to both his parents.

justasking111 · 29/12/2025 18:55

I've seen Sophie in that coat or one similar before. That colour really suits her

Pallisers · 29/12/2025 19:12

Love Sophie's coat but not the hat. Loved Marguerite's outfit - I'd love to see Catherine in something like that for a change.

I was disappointed with Charles' coat - looked a little too big and too crumpled. He generally has very good style.

It's apparently one he's had for decades. Some news sites have found pics of all the times he's worn it in the past. Google King Charles winter coat.

Although they didn't attend on Christmas Day, Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling went to church at Sandringham today.
Harriet in a brown checked skirt and jacket.

In the Hello article, they mention several times that the royals have attended "mass". Is this a quirk of the Sandringham church? (I'm not sure if it's a private chapel for the estate or a regular parish church). It struck me as odd that they would describe an Anglican service as mass - anyone know?

Slight diversion from the lovely winter coats - hope you don't mind Smile

Maireas · 29/12/2025 20:24

Yes, I noticed that, too. I'm guessing it's very High Church?

OP posts:
SqueakyDinosaur · 29/12/2025 22:22

Could it be because Hello's parent company is, IIRC, Spanish? Certainly in English you'd expect Holy Communion (Holy is optional) or just a Christmas service.

I would be surprised if Sandringham were super-High Church, though the tone is generally set by the incumbent priest to some degree - but priests don't tend to apply to take on parishes that don't already accord with their degree of "highness".

Maireas · 29/12/2025 22:26

Thanks, @SqueakyDinosaur , that's probably it.

Ah good point. I'd wondered if it was a bit of naive reporting (eg someone not too familiar with the church but has a vague notion that a church service must = mass). I had a look on the parish website and there's a mixture of Holy Communion, Evensong and Matins, which is what I'd expect from my (wholly inexpert!) CofE pov.

Screenshot attached in case anyone wants to pop down to Sandringham!

Thank you for indulging my little aside there 🙏Bringing it back to sartorial rather than ecclesiastical matters - what's the next big occasion, tiara or otherwise? The Danish new year ball? Anything on the horizon for our lot? 👑
