All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...especially as it was half term.

Hello all,

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Woo-hoo, it is indeed Antipodean-o'clock. Welcome MrsJC, we are sloooowly taking over.

Well, last night my family drove me to drink by 6pm [think child in bath, work on phone, free-ranging parrot trying to flambe itself on stove, me trying to cook, talk on phone and keep children/parrot alive, cats stalking parrot etc etc etc]. So I'll hand back the alcohol-free-badge-of-smugness and mutter about it only being one small glass.

After my week of parties, bank holidays, oyster bay, champagne and barramundi dogs I was expecting the worst, but I fluked a 4.4lb loss, bringing me up to just under half a stone in 2 weeks. . 3 cheers for zero point soup.

And I did go to the gym this morning. Had lots of water, did creams, no booze yet today but it's only 3.30. Expect this status to change oooh, in about 90 minutes when we recreate last nights 'night of the flaming parrot'.

Hope all is well with your dad marina and with JJjr JJ.

Bama - Oh GOD. I did the 27 hour flight on my own with a 2 year old. Which version do you want? The sanitised or the 'waking-up-in-the-night-screaming-at-the-memory' one? Oh go on, the sanitised - it was fine and I enjoyed every second of it. Thankfully she stopped taking off all her clothes every few minutes the week before. Phew! We got lots of sleep too, and the jetlag was easypeasy. That aside , good luck with testing, hoping for good news for you.

Happy Birthday DofNB - sorry about the White Company sheets. Sounds like it ended better with the key lime pie [drool].

Got to go. Still haven't got my coat off from coming in from the dentist, which I hadn't got my coat off from coming back from weigh-in, which I hadn't got my coat off from the school run etc. Have a small child arriving in 1 hour and have to go to shops, bath DD and somehow jemmy in violin practice before then. And then after that supervise, fix my neighbours broadband by telepathy and get everything ready for the baby shower tomorrow, including the food.

[reaches for wine]

Marina · 13/06/2008 10:12

Morning all
Well done on the weightloss arfishy and what a lovely evening that sounds ureb
I have indeed lost 13lb but some of that was before I got properly signed up, so I have now got a SW Certificate of my first half stone and won some raw chicken in this week's raffle which, when cooked, was delicious
Duchess, belated happy birthday and sorry to hear about the interior design modifications from Linda Barker dd
anniemac, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's health worries too. Puts my whinges about a 30 minute train ride into perspective, at least dad is nearby. I hope that if it is prostate cancer that it has been caught good and early and that you hear more soon.
JJ, great to hear ds1 has been signed off by the surgeon and thanks for that RSS info (and the insider knowledge ) . Hope the wheelchair is sorted soon.
Good bootcamping for me yesterday although not enough walking. But yy to water, sunscreen, healthy eating.
Dad gets some test results today which we all hope will confirm the surgeons' hunch that he is a good candidate for the surgery. Am resolutely not thinking of Friday 13th. He is now in possession of proper garments, French soap to cheer him up (Calvados and Fourme d'Ambert off the list alas) and a copy of Rum, Bum and Concertina
A good bootcamping day to all! - and thanks for that brilliant Joanna Moorhead link

Enid · 13/06/2008 10:27

Oh I can't keep up sorry folks.

Marina - thinking of you and your dad. I love the description of your mum earlier in the thread it made me laugh aloud in the office . I didn't see your pictures but I have seen pics of your children before and can confirm they are indeed gorgeous and lovely!

Envy to L and S for her breastfeeding weight loss - that never happened to me despite having three guzzlers

I have been eating porridge for breakfast and fruit, and yesterday I had fish pie, but apart from that I have been avoiding carbs, drinking no alcohol or coffee and drinking gallons of water. Despite having what I think may have been slapped cheek - felt AWFUL all week with terrible body aches and then yesterday had red lumpy rash all over arms, today the rash has gone and I feel fine! Not sure whether to bother going to the docs now...Anyway I weighed myself this morning and have lost 4lbs since sunday. No booze this weekend will be very hard - thinking of splashing out on some no alcohol beer for tonight - woohoo!

Will be having lovely weekend with village fete and lunches out . Dd1 has her athletics competition on Monday so we are going to go up to the track and check it out on Sunday (competitive, moi?).

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! x

SixSpotBurnet · 13/06/2008 10:34

Hello all,

Have had a very boozy week - drinks every night except Monday - but having a night off tonight and going to bed early.

Out tomorrow night as it was my birthday recently .

Had fruit puree and yog and granola from Pret for breakfast and have drunk a large (vase-sized) glass of water. And walked part of way to work.

It was DS1's sports day yesterday so I spent the afternoon freezing on Hackney Downs. I think all that shivering must have been quite good exercise!

Anniemac - best wishes to your dad.

Btw, sorry to threadcrash but has anyone heard from Blu? She hasn't updated the Blu-g and I am rather worried about her .

All looking very promising anniemac, fingers crossed
SixSpot - I was thinking the same thing, have you txted her, I haven't but think I might...
Enid, imagine the Giles grandma in crimplene trousers . I have just had a insane ranty phone call about funeral arrangements which nearby students greatly enjoyed...me sitting beside a friendly sign saying, "please respect this quiet working area"

hey all,

briefly and onehandedly, as ds is grizzling on my shoulder (as he has been for the last two hours, the little bugger poor thing)

arfishy, rofl at the children-parrot-cat debacle

well done to all the weight-losers (you are legion this week, I note), and good luck to those on the prowl for extra babies (and I applaud you for eschewing the unspeakable babydust )

All well here. Alas, didn't get the job, but am not overly disappointed as it transpired they wanted much more time than I could realistically offer, what with DS and a FT job already , and they were v nice about my application. Foodwise, it's a vale of health round here - salads, yoghurts, milk cheese and so forth. WWW - had the tarragon chicken last night! Divine. Am now off to re-peruse your food lists for further inspiration ...

Marina · 13/06/2008 18:08

Snort, you loon, I didn't realise this job was on top of the one you are already on mat leave from! Sorry you didn't get it though.
Have PMT. Have just eaten one Skinny Cow toffee and honeycomb lolly. Am looking at lolly stick and wondering...auguugugh. Must resist...

tortoiseSHELL · 13/06/2008 18:12

Wow this thread is very busy!

Sorry you didn't get the job L&S - but sounds like you have QUITE enough to be getting on with!

marina - hope your dad has had a good day.

Hello to everyone else (and sorry I missed saying Happy Birthday DofNB on your actual day).

I'm having a good few days bootcamping - yesterday I walked for miles - must have been about 6 miles in total - and had lots of water, and good fruit and veg.

Today - good on the water, not so good on the walking, as was very late for dd. But food is good - have had lots of raw veggies and fruit and that's all. Will have gammon with veggies for tea.

WideWebWitch · 13/06/2008 18:49

Hello everyone

Unknown, ah ok, it's that foodies do usually like it, Isywm. Small glass of wine is ok and that sounds like a nice evening apart from the politics, maybe it wasn't meant.

Ah Bama, I see. Fingers crossed for you and maybe he'll sleep for a lot of the flight

Mrs JC, know the feeling re children driving you insane. Good idea to plan I think.

Arfy you make me laugh. lol at broadband by telephathy. And keep drinkiing I think

Marina, hmm, raw chicken, they knows how to treat a girl! Hope the news is good for your dad today. And 13lbs is great.

Enid, 4lbs, fab, see, half way there! Glad you haven't got slapped cheek any more or whatever it was.

anniemac, omg that sounds like hell on earth. Well, in plane. Good news about your dad.

lol Marina at nearby students overhearing

The expression babydust makes me want to kill someone too

L&S sorry about the job but it sounds like a blessing in not much disguise if you didn't have time anyway and hey, all good practice and stuff

TS, 6 miles is good

Today

vitamins
2 sausage and egg muffins
some prosciutto and cheese
large salad with all usual
about to have chingri sagwala from Indian
washed down with ultra brut Champagne
lots of water
sunscreen both times I was outside
body lotion all over this morning
AND Flexitol
AND handcream

and prob will have early night as it's Friday and I'm always knackered on FRiday.

But had Americano at the station, which I wouldn't normally have at this time of day and PING I am Wide awake!

Happy weekend everyone.

OP posts:
moonshine · 13/06/2008 19:38

I am typing with a glass of white wine at my elbow and the chicken wrapped in prosciutto ready to go in the oven (but dh rang to say he will be late and dcs still running riot around the house ).

Lol at antipodean o'clock - I'm desperately trying to think of a book/tv prog where some of the characters come out at night when the others are all asleep but all I can think of atm is Bagpuss (that anyone of a 'certain' age should remember - did your have it 'Down Under'?).

Bmamama - I hope tiny teddies are like jelly babies and not your version of the IPD Diet!

anniemac - good news on your father, but gosh there's some horrid situations on this thread, for want of a better phrase (the words are not flowing for me tonight).

at anyone contemplating any flights with children - I still dare not do it [yellow belly emoticon].

L&S - I obviously got the wrong end of the stick re job - are you mad woman or just a masochist!

I went to the gym this morning and was pretty rubbish but at least it fired me up again. Also did some weights at home but did not have time for breakfast.

But I did eat ds's lunchtime chips as he declared he doesn't like them anymore. ANd sine chocolate cake. As usual it's my ying and yang existence. I need more of the ying and less of the yang (or is it less of the ying etc etc)

Have a good Friday night all.

moonshine · 13/06/2008 19:39

some not sine (and I've only had a sip of wine!)

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 13/06/2008 19:45

Congratulations to all the shrinking bootcampers.

L&S - sorry about the job but if they needed more time it's probably for the best that you didn't get it. Use the extra time for sleeping.

I should have worn my Moron today as I have been walking around the school playing fields all afternoon for a lovely sunny sports day. DCs house won the Relay Cup and were 2nd overall for Sports Day Cup. Archie must be deaf because I was yelling like scary competitive sports-mom mad and he didn't wake up once.

Good on water but v. patchy on food - I skipped breakfast and ate several biscuits mid-morning instead, quiche & salad for lunch and not much pizza and a lemonade lolly for dinner. Also raw carrots, apple and orange. No coffee.

Everything else good.

Enjoy the weekend!

Prufrock · 13/06/2008 20:14

I've been rather bad all week, and feeling like crap, and woke this morning to a ridiculously early period. At least it means there's a reason I've been in such a foul mood. Next week will be better.

unknownrebelbang · 13/06/2008 21:58

I am feckin furious. You'd think management would put safety of their staff first wouldn't you, considering the fact that we work with high-risk people? It's far too boring complicated to go into detail, but ffs!

And breathe...

Bootcampwise good day. Food intake very good and 2 mile hike undertaken.

bamamama · 13/06/2008 23:21

ureb - I think I missed something - hope everything is ok.

T/shell - hope you enjoyed your walk.

L&S sorry you didn't get the job but really, a new ds, full time job, mat leave and new job? Does the phrase bunting cupcake mean nothing to you??

Anniemac - I honestly don't know how you keep sane when long term ttc. I'm sure newly ttc-ers are a pain with all the am-I aren't-I? nonsense. Sorry.

Well, as it happens I'm not pregnant this month ah well. Have resolved not to post about ttc on this thread - far too boring for everyone

Tiny Teddies are small chocolate covered biscuits for children, they are small enough not to count in large quantities will have a good bootcamp weekend, dh away so no booze.

Happy weekend!

unknownrebelbang · 14/06/2008 09:20

No Bama, you've missed nothing, it's just a rant about a crap situation at work being handled really badly by management, to the point where a colleague may have refused to work last night (he didn't). This has implications for all of us, and has left us all feeling vulnerable on many levels, mainly lack of support from management when there's a crisis, and our personal safety away from work.

And there was such a simple solution to all of this.

Anyhoo, have somehow lost another pound! Must go and look for it.

unknownrebelbang · 14/06/2008 09:30

And have a great weekend everyone!

WideWebWitch · 14/06/2008 09:53

Hello, well I'm 5lbs lighter than when I weighed myself and panicked last week! Not necessarily another 5lbs total but that takes my total lost so far to 1 stone 4lbs. Feeling happy about that although still a loooooong way to go.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 14/06/2008 09:53

And we drank 2 bottles of that Champagne last night and oh my word, it was divine!
