All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...especially as it was half term.

Hello all,

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Sorry to hear about your dad Marina, everyone has commented on your daughter, but I think your son looks delightful. Chutney's description of them fits.

Pru, I too was shocked that www dislikes pasta (I don't either for that matter). And whilst not one of your heroines, DS1 + DS2 had fruitshoots on Sunday, lol (though I didn't buy them). No comment on Nestle and Marmite ewwwww - nuff said.

And yes www - you do deserve a break. How lovely, the thought of having December off.

Hope you've had a lovely day Duchess.

unknownrebelbang · 11/06/2008 23:07

Today I have been binging on.........blardy go ahead bars . How pathetic is that?

Other than that a reasonable day bootcampwise, including an unexpected 2 mile hike.

My face is still pink, and my scalp is a little tender, from the sun yesterday.

Have started to read the IPD book today. A lot of it makes sense, some of it I've read/heard before, but there's little lightbulbs going "ting" every so often. Whilst I can't do the diet, am enjoying the read.

bamamama · 12/06/2008 04:38

Marina - best of luck to your father, he sounds like a wonderful man. And well done to you on the weight loss.

Chutney - hope work is easing up a bit.

L&S - I find simply walking without a pram a wonderful adult occupation! Although you do have to carry your handbag.

Anniemac - hope it's good news re your dad. I know exactly how you feel re the distance. It's like everything is going on elsewhere.

Ureb - how can you not like marmite! It's wonderful stuff

Today we had a lovely trip out with ds's nursery on a bendy bus to the bus wash! We all sang 'wheels on the bus' and the driver pipped his horn at all the right places. It was actually really sweet to see the little ones really enjoying their trip round the 'bus hospital' depot with the special 'bus doctors' mechanics. Ds had a huge screaming fit 45 minutes into having to sit still though which doesn't bode well for the 27 hour flight home.

Off for a walk now, I need ds to have a nap rod for own back

nearly the weekend...

arfishy · 12/06/2008 05:22

Hope your dad is ok marina and also all is going well with JJjr.

Fate is conspiring against me since joining WW - only my second week weigh in tomorrow and I've had 2 parties, 2 sleep overs, one baby shower, 3 home cooked dinners delivered by our neighbour and a bank holiday. I've tried desperately to keep to the points but it's very hard when you're eating someone else's cooking to keep track of it all. I've got a case of pink champagne and pink cupcakes to take to the baby shower [glutton]. I think there will also be several platefuls of highly calorific deep fried chinese nibbles complete with chilli dipping sauce [unable to resist].

OUTRAGEOUSLY work have expected me to do some and so I have completely and utterly failed to go to the gym. I'm hoping to get to spin later, but a 4pm class does tend to clash with working hours. I will go in the morning before weigh-in, just to pile on the humiliation of the rest of the room seeing my arse in my gym kit [where did the sun go emoticon].

So, erm bootcampwise. I tried. Weigh-in in the morning. Need more water. Have not had booze during the week. Had a wonderful facial and booked one for the next two weeks to reward myself for being, ahem, "good". Includes foot and hand treatment so that's a tick.

Marina, so sorry to hear about your dad but good that they can do something about it? I hope your mother is doing ok too - that has to be a worry as well as a frustration. I read Joanna Moorhead's article on having relatives in hospital a few days ago and really liked it. (She's one of the few writers that I read because of the byline.)
I know what the IPD is but what does "IPD" stand for? [hopelessly confused]

Am home but heading back soon. We are still waiting on damn wheelchair delivery, bah. JJjr has been discharged by his surgeon (although he will still stop by every day while he's in) and just needs the ok from the physio team to leave the hospital. He will need to be able to get up and down stairs on his crutches before they do that, so it will probably be tomorrow that we're all home again as he's still wobbly walking and stairs are hard!

Mumsnet mates wasn't connected to anything when I left, so unless that's changed, it's just a way to keep a private list of your friends. I used to have one of boys I'd kissed; who didn't? And the individual threads don't have rss but you can subscribe to the blogs by putting /feed/rss2 at the end of the url, so blu's would be www.mumsnet.com/blogs/blu/feed/rss2 .
Also, have you read this blog from a Mumsnet GP? It's very good.

I am using newsgator for my rss reader. They have one for the iPhone and other mobiles - once you have an account, access it via m.newsgator.com and Bob's your uncle (which would make you my cousin, welcome to the family). rss is the best way to keep up with posts in blogs you like if you're wondering why to use it. You can see what's been updated all in one screen.

marina good news re: dad's surgery..I was on the phone to St Thomas's press office yesterday - it really is a good hospital and I'm liking the sound of his nightie...

pru, lol @ sweating like a pig - the piccadilly line does that to me most days

MrsJohnCusack · 12/06/2008 11:28

I think I would like to join in if that is OK

Marina, very glad your Dad is going to have the surgery, he sounds fabulous. (mine, although not as venerable as yours, is extremely unhealthy and a couple of years ago had his carotid artery unblocked (can't remember actual medical he didn't have a great predicted success rate but the outcome was good). I am sure your dad's fitness will be a massive plus point for him and I will of course think of him next week. It is so frightening.

erm well I shall join in and gradually catch up on what you're all doing. Today not particularly successful as had concert at 6.30, no time for dinner, so have just feasted on an enormous packet of crisps at 10pm . I did have muesli and fruit and yoghurt earlier

Cammelia · 12/06/2008 14:39

Don't be timid Mrs JC this is a very civilised thread

Respect to Marina's dad for his D-Day exploits.

moonshine · 12/06/2008 17:11

In the words of that song (can't remember who by) Three apparently is a Magic Number Marina so I'm sure it will be third time lucky for your dad. Dcs are lovely and are so alike (I know I shouldn't be surprised but my two aren't!).

L&S - I loved my interview really last year because I got to dress up for the first time in yonks (after 7 years of being sahm) and pretend to be a real adult! Tbh I am past that honeymoon stage now but dressing up (well my version of it) is still one of the things that gets me excited about going to work (apart from my short drive alone blaring out music boy racer-style).

WWW - that time will go so quickly and think of all those leisurely Christmas shopping trips you'll be able to do instead of rushing around in your lunch hour/the dead of night when you're knackered and want to be home curled up in bed. But am that you don't like pasta. Is it the actual pasta or is the mixing of it with sauces?

I have given thanks for the cooling weather which meant I could wear my dress with some dark tights after having spent half an hour trying to make them less disgusting with some leg 'make-up'.

Sunscreen worn religiously (but face has still gone brown really quickly ).

And I am really looking forward to going back to the gym tomorrow for the first time in 2 weeks.

I will happily press on with the anti-hormonal rage experiment and will really try to remember to take the cocktails of pills regularly and report back - think you are supposed to give it at least 2/3 months to work.

ANd no alcohol this week yet - but I too like to 'mark' Friday with a drink or two (although my weekend has officially started .

moonshine · 12/06/2008 17:13

Oh an dmust go find the magazine thread. I used to be a magazine junkie but can find little of real interest these days.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/06/2008 18:25

Hello Busy, busy here again.

Sorry to hear about your dad Marina but glad they're giving him the surgery. If he survived D-Day then this will be a walk in the park hopefully. Anniemac - I'll cross my fingers for your dad too.

Ureb - I detest Marmite too but dh loves it. dh had been lol about the cannabis factory over this side of the city that is in full view of the local nick! He spent most of Tuesday night there. Good job it wasn't on fire else he'd have been high as a kite.

JJ - hope you've escaped today. Does JJjr realise he might set off the alarms at passport control when you go away?

Welcome MrsJC

Bootcamp here is a bit lax (again) Still no booze though and I've had exercise. Ran yesterday (yippee) and gym today. Also had an unscheduled sprint through the streets of Chester yesterday. Went shopping and erroniously left excess baggage in Coffee Republic - hence 400 metre sprint back. Luckily is was still there and hadn't been blown up as a suspect package!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/06/2008 19:40

Hello MrsJC. Poor marinas dad - I hope the surgery is possible, at least he's fit which will make a huge difference to his recovery.

Birthday started v. badly as DD2 drew all over an ancient green velvet chair and her mostly white White Company bedlinen with a thick marker pen. Much shouting ensued which helped everyone forget it was my birthday. DD1 didn't remember at all until I was given presents in the playground. Fortunately I had dark glasses on as I was rather weepy. But the day did improve, culminating in Waitrose Chinese Ready Meals and Key Lime Pie. [glutton emoticon]

MIL sent me package of usual Estee Lauder creams but also added in an Age Cream (name escapes me) and Manicure/Pedicure lotion that has left my feet so smooth that I keep sliding about in my shoes. I'll report on effectiveness of these products in due course. The Ped lotion certainly smells better than Flexitol. ie. it's not made of piss.

Food, water, moisturising all good. Exercise still negligible, the bump has gone and I don't have a tummy like a lump of collapsed dough (which I usually do) but I can feel my stomach muscles are still tender so they need rest and not work.

More tomorrow, baby is making meeping sounds and stuffing his fists into his mouth. I hope he's not after my Key Lime Pie.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/06/2008 19:41

moonshine - was it De La Soul?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/06/2008 19:44

Ooo sorry Norks - looks like I missed your birthday too. Belated Happy Birthday wishes!!

WideWebWitch · 12/06/2008 21:26

Love and Squalor, job interview sounds very exciting, who cares if you don't get it, you got to dress smartly and be a grown up! The tarragon chicken is lovely and v quick and easy!

Marina, I am hoping for third time lucky for your dad, we've all got our fingers crossed. It's good that they consider it worth doing, roll on next week. Well done on the 3.5lbs, that's fab and also well done on marching about as stress relief.

Oh goodness anniemac, sorry to hear news of your dad too, how worrying. Sympathy on dull meetings though, you did well not to eat your own arm in boredom imo...

thanks unknown and glad someone understands my pasta dislike. Aloha can't stand it either. I think there's a lot of v sensible stuff in the book and so even if the diet's not for you there's still some good stuff, isn't there? lol at Go Ahead bars. They don't mean "Go Ahead! Have ten!"

Bama, omg at 27 hours. Are you pregnant? Or aren't you testing yet?

Arfy, outrageous, the bastards at work expecting you to work, how dare they? I am on your behalf. Well done on no booze

Gosh and you too Batters? They're totally unreasonable these employers. Can't they tell it interrupts both mumsnetting and bootcamping? Pah.

JJ hope your boy's allowed home tomorrow and thanks for the technical explanations.

MrsJC, don't be shy, we all know you here, surely? Come on in!You're also in NZ iirc? Or am I confusing you with someone else? apols if so!

Moonshine, yes am looking forward to Dec off but how come everyone is so shocked that I don't like pasta?! It's making me laugh, this! It's the texture, it's slimy. Aloha once said, like wallpaper paste and I agree. I really can't eat it. Just as well, since I seem to have got to the size of a small hippo without it, imagine if I did like it, the horror! Moonshine, I've been in opaques all week because thankfully it hasn't been that hot (well, when it wasI was working at home) but I have v long skirt so no one knew. I can't stand the thought of not having the holding in ness of them. Well done on no booze

Saggars, well done on no booze and unscheduled sprint. Impressed that you can, if I ever run for a train it's, well, it's not pretty.

DofN omg at marker pen and sorry you were weepy. It's allowed though, you have a v small baby plus 3 others plus birthdays can be like that. lol at not made of piss!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 12/06/2008 21:27

Oh and JJ, IPD is Idiot Proof Diet as in India and Neris;s Idiot Proof Diet.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 12/06/2008 21:38

Today

2 sausage and egg muffins
port Salut and Cambozola as a snack
smoked salmon and cream cheese wraps
brazil nuts
salad made with spinach leaves, tuna, artichokes, fresh anchovies, green beans, cucumber, tomato and quail eggs
lots of water and vitamins
Used sunscreen

I am falling down on the exercise front now I don't have to charge between tube lines etc so I need to think about how to sort that out next week. I only take a half hour lunch and can't stand walking in the heat so it'll have to be evenings I think. Although this evening by the time I came in, made my supper, made my lunch for tomorrow, talked to the children and dh, took my make up off, got clothes ready for tomorrow, unloaded the dishwasher and re tidied the kitchen (and this is a day when the cleaner's BEEN!) did an online shp and got into bed it was 9o'clock or whatever time my first post today was.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 12/06/2008 21:40

Oh and no booze, obviously, so that's every day this week

OP posts:
moonshine · 12/06/2008 21:54

Happy Birthday Norks - shame about feeling a bit teary but hope the Key Lime Pie helped a little.

And yes De La Soul - well remembered.

WWW - yes pasta can be very slimy but that's because it obviously wasn't cooked properly (or one of the dirt cheap brands). My parents are Italian, you know, so I like to pretend think I know a thing or two about it.

unknownrebelbang · 12/06/2008 22:42

I know www, I know... They're not even something I usually buy fgs!

Pasta - bleugh - I think the shock is because you're a foodie (wotsits aside...) and don't all foodies like pasta with glorious rich sauces? (obviously not, but ykwim). Whereas I'm just faddy, lol.

Haha Saggars, something to tease DH about - he's there now. (we had one on our street a couple of years ago, right opposite another copper's home!) There is rather a lot of them...

Well done on the weightloss Marina. Is that about a stone for you? (not that I'm keeping check, .

Aw Duchess, what a shame. Key lime pie though, mmmmm.

unknownrebelbang · 12/06/2008 22:55

So today DH whisked me away for lunch, lol, very nice it was too. See, I can do spontaneous occasionally...

Tonight, we've had a little soiree at church, with a short play put on by the drama group from school, and then a mini-concert by a group of cellists (using both their trad instruments and their electric cellos). They're all 16-18, with the exception of an 11 year old who is outstanding (plus teach - DS2's fabfabfab cello teacher). A very pleasant evening, celebrated with a small glass of wine.

A member of the teaching staff did make me feel slightly uncomfortable, due to staffroom politics, but I don't think it was intentional. (Downside to a small school, everyone knows the Chair of Govs' wife, lol).

So, bootcamp is erm a bit off the mark, but happiness is generally good.

bamamama · 13/06/2008 01:20

MrsJC - they're all in bed now, 'tis time for you, me and Arfishy to run riot over the thread!

Marina - any news on your Pa? He sounds like a game old soul, I hope he's feeling better.

JJ - hope the wheelchair issue is sorted asap.

Moonshine - do report back on the anti-banshee meds. I can't physically take any more EPO and dh still complains that I'm er, rather tetchy

Saggars - I lived in Chester for years so have an image of you pegging it along the rows, knocking aside hugely irritating tourists!

Duchess - at marker pen. Is it at all removable? Sorry your birthday got off to a bad start but yum at key lime pie.

WWW - yep, 27 hours with a 2 year old. I simply cannot wait. The first part is a night flight but you can guarantee that ds will have just dropped off when we have to get off the plane for refuelling. Actually, I can't think about it. It is going to be bloody awful!

Oh, and with my ridiculously variable cycle I shouldn't be testing at all. Needless to say I did test yesterday which of course was -ve so who knows? Really I shouldn't be thinking about it until at least next Tuesay. So I won't.

So then, bootcamping wise not that great. An awful lot of toast has been consumed in the last couple of days so I just think it's PMT. Dh is away all weekend and as he is dairy intolerant I suspect it's going to be a cream and cheese fest for ds and I.

Enjoy your Friday ladies...

MrsJohnCusack · 13/06/2008 01:29

Yes I am in NZ
and I am feeling 10 years OLDER today, my children are driving me UTTERLY INSANE. I have screamed at DD today and I feel horrible and sound like a fishwife.

today I have eaten a muffin and a cup of coffee. Am just about to make myself eat bagels & some fancy pesto I bought from the deli for lunch

am going to spend this evening (when I am actually in) making a Plan for next week re food and all these boot camp rules. And to try to fit in some exercise. (from Sunday am out every evening more or less until the end of the month playing in various things)

have to go back and read the thread and try to catch up with you all . Happy (belated) birthday Norks
