All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...especially as it was half term.

Hello all,

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Marina, very sorry to hear about your father. I hope the results of the angiogram are encouraging.

Enid, I would last 2 mins on I and N. I could not live without tea, fruit, veg, pasta, bread, rice etc for sustained periods. Am deeply envious of WWW's weight loss but I'll have to stick to more conventional methods. Well, eating for Britain at the moment of course, but once the baby has emerged then I'll cut out the extras.

WWW, I am sure that's a hormone thing. Wait til your reg weigh in and I'm sure you'll be back on track.

Duchess, what a lovely day.

Good luck for the exams, Cam's DD . When is it all over?

Must fly - off to collect kids and pop into super new tesco metro that has opened round the corner (I like my life in the fast lane ). Our nearest late shop was Somerfield so Evil Tesco is a huge, if unethical, improvement.

Cammelia · 09/06/2008 17:16

Thanks for the good luck vines to dd chutneymary, its all over on Thursday and then the school takes the whole of her year on a 2-night camp

I think thats for the benefit of the parents more than the children

Cammelia · 09/06/2008 17:16

vines, oops Freudian slip I mean vibes

Marina · 09/06/2008 18:47

Enif's bibulous delinquency is catching, cam. Hope dd fares well this week - glorious weather for camping
Thanks all for kind words re dad He is just such a wonderful person and parent - still picking up the dcs from school twice a week until this happened, courteous and pleasant to everyone he meets, etc. I have quite a tricky relationship with my mum tbh and he also acts as a peace broker.
In haste - good bootcamp day for me, have you considered Slimming World enid? It is a carb-light diet with some dairy permitted and LOADS of fruit! Working OK for me

WideWebWitch · 09/06/2008 19:08

Thanks to everyone who said stop panicking. Went on the I&N forum and was v reassured by searching on the words period, scales, etc etc. They all say weight loss is not linear and don't panic. So I have decided not to!

Prufrock, you went out to dinner and didn't drink, VERY impressive. Sounds lovely.

unknown, lol at annoying Cod. She has to hide this every week ha ha and well done at berating dh - a colleague of mine was at Silverstone too, we're not far from there, well done on taking salad, fab.

Marina, lots of good heart vibes coming your way for your dad, I do hope Wednesday is ok. I thought about you quite a bit yesterday xxx
(hope work was bearable).

Bama, v impressed at 2 hr bike ride

Batters, that sounds like a lovely weekend and woo hoo at compliment from your dp! Omg at dd's comment but, but, at least it's an intelligent stroppy comment? I quite like "how do you dare to presume you know how I feel" or whatever it was, it's good use of language. If my children ever swear I don't mind quite as much as long as it's in context But good about her being a good loser. "Her first sparring match was against a girl of the same age, who ran out of the ring in hysterics after 30 seconds in it with dd and refused to get back in." - do you ever feel like that?

Pru, will C&P the stuff from the I&N forum if I can later, honestly, it's very cheering

Hi Anniemac and lol at "eating like a man" welcome back.

Moonshine, thanks for the kind and interesting words. That time, do you mean totm? What pills and are they for PMT? I have it v v v bad and dh suggested I find something to take too, poor bloke. I too could cope being a sahm from Sept when they're both at school

Enid, I think you're absolutely right not to do it if you feel like that about it and 8Lbs is SUCH a small amount that you most certainly can do it in a month of cutting back slightly while still eating carbs. I think it suits some peopke more than others and that anyone who can't keep it up shouldn't start it really. Do you feel relieved? It sounds like the right thing for you not to do it tbh.

I don't want to debate the healthiness or otherwise here but I will say that I am eating no processed food, quite a bit of fish, spinach and broccoli, lots of water and vitamins and unprocessed organic (as is everything else) meat. So I really don't think it is that bad, I don't have meat 50 times a week!

SSB, well done on walking, cream etc. WElcome back.

Ts, well done an walking ansd food and aah at your ds's school, how lovely! I'm glad you're feeling happy.

Chutneymary, I had an outing ALONE to Waitrose on Sunday and considered it a lovely treat so you're not alone and I probably need to get out more too!

Cam lol at vines.

Hey all, by heck this thread moves fast.

Marina, about your dad. Really hope all ok, and Wednesday goes well. Will be thinking of you.

Cod, the diet is the India and Neris cut-out-yer-carbs one. Have been thinking about this and I know there's just no way I could do do it - Enid, I too would choke at bacon and eggs for breakfast. I'm a cereal woman all the way.

Have been awol over the weekend, having a v nice but - alas! - somewhat wine-fuelled time. Birthday picnic in the park for a friend on Saturday; lots of salads, lots of fizz, lots of children running amok and sitting in the houmous. Then lunch at a friend's on sunday - more fizz, more salad and some homemade burgers, yum. No ice cream and the odd sit-up here and there, however [fallen halo].

Oh, and I got my job interview! The downside now, of course, is that I have to do a job interview ... Have been working on presentation since DS went to bed; will let you all know how it goes on wednesday. Wish me luck!

WideWebWitch · 09/06/2008 20:34

cod, it's india knight and neris, like atkins
have lost over a stone in 4 weeks
have been not drinking in week for a while now

arf @ teenage behaviour & sparring ability. Like teenagers need to be any scarier!

marina - best wishes to your dad and hope the angio on Wednesday is OK.

l&s - good luck to you on Wednesday too.

It's a busy day Wednesday, I'll be 39 29 (as I'm 10yy).

t/shell - excellent about the school.

I've spent too long on my feet today and my legs and lower back hurt. I must try and rest more. Baby woke up for feeds (followed by changing) at 1am, 2am, 3.15am, 5.30am and 7am. The bags under my eyes this morning were of epic proportions (sunshine meant I could legitimately keep dark glasses on). I'm hoping tonight will be better.

Lots of water, not much coffee. Cereal; grilled chicken, quinoa & salad for lunch (yesterdays leftovers); apple & raw carrots for afternoon snacking; lamb tagine, couscous & sweetcorn for dinner followed by strawberries, cream & meringue (also leftovers).

Yes to sunscreen, moisturiser & hand cream. Slapped on some Flexitol last night. Self-tanning lotion looking good. Toenails look blardy awful so will give a quick coat of polish and then get to bed.

tortoiseSHELL · 09/06/2008 22:08

DofNB - you are a paragon of virtue! Your babe is only a few days old and you are eating grilled chicken, quinoa, apple, couscous.

I think I was eating Caramel bars...

I think you should put your feet up! If you lived near me I would come and make you, and feed all your animals for you! But I think you may be the other side of the country!

I think your dh should get his wellies on!

LoveAndSqualor · 09/06/2008 22:44

Oh Duchess - shudder with sympathetic horror at wakeful night. DS back to his old ways last night too - up at 2.15, 4.15, 6.15 ... if one more person says to me 'oh my dc was sleeping through by 10 weeks' I will be forced to defenestrate them

Hope you have a better night tonight.

bamamama · 10/06/2008 04:07

busy, busy thread...have read all but ds is currently down for a nap banging on his bedroom wall so will have to be brief.

I will say though that anyone who claims their dcs are sleeping through by 10 weeks is plainly lying any anyway the medical definition of 'sleeping through' is 5 hours straight. That's not sleeping through in my book!

Enid - the no alcohol and cake route sounds like a plan. That's what I'm aiming for in the next couple of weeks. We've been here for nearly 10 months now and despite 2x1 hour exercise classes per week, regular cycling and at least 7-10k walking everyday I haven't lost any weight at all. Then I look at how much cake I eat and wine I drink and it all becomes clear....

unknownrebelbang · 10/06/2008 07:53

Good morning everyone.

Ahem, one or two of us were that lucky Bama! Not that I mention it usually... (And boy, did they "make up for it" in other ways). (DS1 never slept during the day; DS2 didn't feed properly; DS3 is a haze - but he's "made up for it" ever since, lol). Sorry L&S. All babes are different yada yada yada.

I think IPD is a bit extreme if you only need to lose 8 lbs tbh Enid.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Marina. He sounds lovely.

To get to competition level is commendable Batters, shame she didn't win anything this time, but well done DD on being a good loser (essential skill to have). All three DSs have competed in Karate competitions. I find it excruciating, but the boys love it. .

Did you got the ceiling sorted Moonshine?

Good luck with the interview, L&S.

Happy birthday for tomorrow Duchess. FGS woman, take it easy!

Yesterday was just about ok bootcampwise. Will do better today - have already been on the twister.

unknownrebelbang · 10/06/2008 07:58

And just for Cod....

Fk off Fishface.

JJ · 10/06/2008 08:41

I hope it's ok to just pop in and give an update:

epidural out yesterday and finally out of bed - he did fantastically and is super brave and working extremely hard. Made it to the chair in the room and back and then again to the chair before vomiting everywhere and nearly passing out (not unexpected and physio was great about it). SMBK - he did miss the physio though! But she helped prop him up and hold the bowl. The physios, nurses, doctors and anaesthestist are all lovely and kind and caring.

He gets to go into the pool today and is very excited about getting out of the room finally and getting to start road testing the wheelchairs. I got to sleep at home last night but am heading back in as soon as I shower.

I am living on coffee and simple crappy carbs and can feel it. Blergh. Was home for 24+ hours over the weekend and did get a jog in and had a nice bike ride with JJtheYoungest (does that work? Hmm.) Bike ride included pink iced cake at cafe, so boo to food but yay to happiness.

Do the threads now have rss feeds? That would be nice and much easier on slow connections. I will ask and see. Would anyone else be interested in that?

LoveAndSqualor · 10/06/2008 09:24

JJ, really glad to hear he's up and about - that's wonderful - though sorry about the throwing up, poor old him.

Good call on rss feeds. Must run but just wanted to wave

Marina · 10/06/2008 09:35

In haste as it is showdown at the OK Corral soon (work angst again )
JJ, wonderful news he is out of bed, we have all been thinking of you! So happy he is progressing well.
Thanks all for kind thoughts re dad he is a man in a million and his angiogram has been moved back to today so, fingers crossed.
Good bootcamp day yesterday - 17,000 steps and good eating until a little packet of popcorn sidled up to me during Without a Trace .
Lots of water, Flexitol (have some sexy cotton pixie boots from the Sanctuary to stop it from coating the duvet), Dove fake tan (I love it, it worked!)
Am awestruck at DONB's healthy post-baby diet, like TS I was eating whatever I found down the sofa back
Good luck for the interview on Weds LAS, really hope it's what you want and goes to plan
Bama - how far do you travel on your 2 hour bike rides? I notionally covered 14km (porker amateur setting) in 30 mins while watching Why I Fired Them with siralan the other night. Am wondering if this was penny farthing stuff or Tour de Suburbia
Enif, have you considered trying Slimming World? The Red (original) diet encourages a very low but not zero carb intake, allows small amounts of milk (enough for tea and porridge), but is heavy on lean meat protein and fruit and veg. I still cannot bring myself to spray our wok with something called "Fry Light" so am using my Syns (twee or what) on small amounts of sunflower or olive oil where unavoidable.
I think www and pig2twig were born for each other, reading your zestful accounts of steaks and poussins is always a vicarious treat missus!
We should start our own magazine I think (re other thread and wanky white bunting and cupcake lifestyles). There used to be an excellent alt.parenting mag called Wipe - now that Eve has joined the rest in the materialist midden, there's a real gap in the market. WWW, do you remember She when it was a fab dirty hippie read with Dr David Delvin and numerous other bonkers contributors , including Susan Hicks' "Bung Cuisine"?
Good bootcamp day to all, hope moonshine's ceiling is fixed and chutney found her way out of her new Tescos safely
Batter, is dd sleeping better?

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 09:52

Marina, good news the angiogram is being moved to today.

I was having EXACTLY the same thought re the other thread about alternative womens mags, I sent an article to Wipe years and years ago and they wrote back to say sadly they were closing down otherwise they'd have used it. I liked it a lot, it was tell it like it is parenting mag. I do remember She when it wasn't on glossy paper and was a bit hippyish, yes, and I remember loving Eve right until fairly recently. Feature ideas please, I might start an alternative womens mag blog.

JJ, of COURSE it's ok to pop in and post or skim or whatever you want! Glad to hear he's a little better, that sounds so tough on him poor love. Eat whatever, drink whatever, get through it. And explain about RSS feeds someone when you get time, I don't understand them at all.

Enid, 8lbs isn't much an dI think I&N is too hardcore for that amount. Are you feeling happier having dropped it?

Bama, absobloodylutely re sleeping through liars at 10 weeks. Yeah, right.

DofN, agree with everyone, you are amazing!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 09:52

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/06/2008 10:02

Just dashing through between gym and work.

JJ so glad he's of bed. Boo hiss to missing the physio. Get him to aim a little to the left next time Hope he enjoys the pool and I think you are more than entitled to cake.
