All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...especially as it was half term.

Hello all,

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Thats good news about ds jj - you are testament to the healing power of cakes!

marina, thinking of you and your family this morning xx (ewwwwwww to 'Syns' though - i did have good results with WW and they, or SW, will be my next port of call if Enid's Diet (tm) doesn't work)

bamamama - we can be boring and cakeless together. I am aiming for No Alcohol until June 28th when I have a party to go to. Will probably drink one glass of wine and keel over.

L&S - good luck tomorrow!

DofNB - [wow!] you are impressive. So that's how those yummymummies get their figures back and look amazing 10 weeks after they have a baby! You have guilted me into giving myself a pedicure tonight.

torty - great news about the school!

batters - you may have guessed I am not so in need of the I and N cookbook now! If you have sent it I will read it then pass it on to A.N Other if you are happy with that. (Not you Cod [if you are lurking] you will take the piss)

Had porridge with banana this morning and a cup of tea - BUT did not have maple syrup on porridge or sugar in tea . Am drinking redbush tea now in office (with milk, no sugar). So my new plan (sustainable I think) is to avoid carbs at suppertime, have a cereal/fruit breakfast and a lowish carb lunch. And also to avoid sugar when possible. Along with no alcohol and cakes I reckon I will crack it. Watch this space...

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 10:55

I am quite down today diet wise. I am full of self loathing and felt very down getting dressed and realising I look shit in everything. I looked in the mirror this morning and thought "you fat ugly cow, how tf could you have let yourself get this fking enormous?" I want more results dammit and am avoiding the scales really truly hoping there's a difference by Saturday.

I re read some of the I&N book and I think I've been doing ALL the right things with the exception of drinking wine and then only on Friday and Saturday night. So it must be a combination of wine + period that's stalling me. I honestly thought I was starting to look and feel better last week but this week, nah. Want to join island community and not go anywhere until I am thinner. Thanks for listening, no responses necessary, I just wanted to get that off my sizable and revoltingly crinkly chest.

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/06/2008 11:14

www - you're too impatient! period is bound to have affected weigh-in. if i were you i'd limit the number of times you weigh each month and avoid the few days before, during & after period because they will always be more disappointing which is compounded by feeling all PMTish.

archie & i slept better. he managed 12 until 4 and then woke again at 6.30. he is currently asleep on my lap, head lolling back over my forearm and mouth hanging open. he looks v. content!

as for my virtuous food, for breakfast today i've had a large twix from the garage post-school run... (and a raw carrot, obv).

Iota · 10/06/2008 11:33

a stone in 4 weeks is still an impressive result WWW - don't put yourself down - it took me 4 months to lose 10lb in a gently cutting down fashion.

I have discovered, unsurprisingly, that if you sit around on your arse for days on end, moving as little as possible, but still ingest the same amount of food as usual, then the pounds start piling back on.

Curses on you, Sprained Foot!

bamamama · 10/06/2008 12:27

Iota - are you able to tentatively hobble or are you pretty much stuck. Sympathies, I hope you're feeling better soon.

WWW - please don't be so hard on yourself, I blame af - tis a horrible thing.

Duchess - hope you're managing to get some rest, and lol at the Twix/carrot breakfast.

Marina - hope your father is on the mend, good luck for the angiogram.

Enid, I suspect I will last out on the no booze front until the 20th. No real reason, it's a Friday.

JJ - glad ds is doing ok, poor love.

Well, not a bad day bootcampwise but it's been peeing down all day so only managed a walk to the shops and back. Ds has had 2 back molars through in the last few days so has been very grumpy. Has also worked out that shouting Ow! gets him a kiss and a hug better (regardless of any injury). Men, they just can't communicate their feelings, just tell me you want a hug!

Also, convinced I'm not pregnant again this month and have been merrily working on that principle until dh pointed out that I've been complaining about things smelling really strongly. Now back to symptom spotting. I really don't want to do that, I'll be buying tests far too early again.

tortoiseSHELL · 10/06/2008 12:50

bamamama - sorry it's raining - it's gorgeous sunshine here! I didn't realise you were ttc - good luck!

DofNB - glad you had a better night!

Www - you are doing really well, a stone is amazing, and imagine 2 months ago if someone said in 2 months time you will be a WHOLE STONE lighter, how encouraged you would have felt! It's normal to have blips up and down, especially when it's ToM. Don't get discouraged1

Marina - sorry work is bad again - hope your dad's angiogram gives good results today.

JJ - glad your boy is up and about, x

We're having a quietish day - had to wait in for various furniture deliveries/collections - I have bought this bed for ds2's room, so that if we ever have a couple staying we can actually give them somewhere to sleep (obv would move ds2 out!). So that arrived, amazingly with no probs, but I had also asked the Sofa Project to come and take the old bed, and a sofa bed. They did come, took the sofa, but wouldn't take the bed - because it is wooden...they are almost impossible to give stuff to, I'm quite amazed they took the little sofabed tbh.

Anyway, have spent the morning cleaning which has got to be good exercise. Had a raw carrot midmorning (this always helps inspire me!), and will have some watermelon for lunch, before going over to school - they are having a celebration concert because of their awards, and ds1 and dd are both singing in the KS1 choir! So we will walk there and back, which is about a mile and a half in total.

Barcelona sounds lovely! And glad your dd is sleeping better!

bamamama · 10/06/2008 13:51

DH has just phoned to let me know that a) moving to Sydney is going to mean taking a pay cut and b) that he is bringing home beer in order to mull this over.

Sorry Enid, I'll join you being cakeless (until I have beer induced munchies tomorrow)

suzywong · 10/06/2008 14:06

hello
how's things?

right, formalities out of the way let me talk about ME

phase 2 day 1 of IPD and I feel great
12 lbs to go, well 10 really, I think I'd be too thin to support enormous norks at 10st 9lbs and I think my face would look gaunt

Have lost 11lbs in 2 weeks which is nice

really getting into this way of eating, no desire whatsoever for refined carbs
I can have vodka today but don't fancy it

I NEVER EVER thought I'd hear myself turn down a drink

enough about me and my svelte ways, how is your son JJ and how is everyone else?

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 15:00

SW you do make me laugh! Well done!

Thanks everyone for your commiserations and kind words and sorry for being such a whinging fker. I MUST do some work, have been hanging around here far too much today!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 15:02

Barcelona sounds fab Batters, and that's so lovely about the beach!

OP posts:
yoyo · 10/06/2008 15:02

It is getting to hard to keep up with everyone - by the time I have read the posts I don't have time to write anything.

WWW - hope your day has got better. Focus on the positive if you can although I think we have all done the morning "what am I going to wear as it all looks awful?" thing. Promise yourself a treat this week - manicure, massage, a very early night with candles and crisp sheets..

SW - well done. it is definitely a regime that suits some people more than others.

Marina - hope it went well for your Dad today and that work was better as the day progressed. Good luck at Slimy tomorrow.

Batters - Barcelona will be fab. Very envious. Might do some gardening later as DD has been nagging for a while now.

Today has been good so far. Glorious sunshine so must now walk to collect DC.

Marina · 10/06/2008 15:02

Congratulations suzy, that's a great result

Good day so far but will do other power walk home due to lack of lunch time here

WWW have mailed you - know how you feel, truly

Agree with all the wise words others have posted - as per the Smiths, "These things take time"

Batters, Barcelona, how lovely a worthy reward for all your fab achievements and inspirational shrinkage. Am still LOLing at the child whimpering to get out of the ring with your dd at the Tae Kwondo Championships

Marina · 10/06/2008 15:04

Have added some photos to profile and am testing Mumsnet mates function - so have a look when you get a mo pls

suzywong · 10/06/2008 15:08

hello everyone
and did I mention I have lost 4cm from the top of each thigh?

WWW, I & N say never weigh before or during the curse. What is the tape measure saying?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/06/2008 16:49

marina - either i'm not your mumsnet mate or it's not working!

LoveAndSqualor · 10/06/2008 17:02

Not working for me either, Marina (though may I just say, having browsed your profile, that I applaud your taste in all things literary, visual, and musical )

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 17:14

Ta Wong, I know. I don't have a tape measure, dh says I jneed to get one as he thinks I look better. Also must paste that why the scales lie post in a bit, most illuminating.

Marina, I can't see it either and feel sure am your mate

OP posts:
Iota · 10/06/2008 17:19

I'm not your mate either, marina, but I'd like to be

oooh she's very exclusive isn't she?

Marina · 10/06/2008 19:02

It can't be working then as you are all on the list and I love you all ver' ver' much

WideWebWitch · 10/06/2008 19:08

Marina, did you see the pic I posted of us all on Cod's bitching thread?

OP posts:
moonshine · 10/06/2008 19:26

Marina - well I can see some photos so does that make me bessie mate?

No only joking, nothing there. Hope the angiogram went well and that your dad is feeling ok.

JJ - glad ds's spirits seem on the up.

WWW - that's not your logical brain speaking, that's your hormones. The 'pills' I am trialling are Magnesium OK, eps and agnus castus. Now all I have to do is to remember to take them more than twice a week . Know exactly how you feel though, I have, to spout a cliche, bought the t-shirt, in fact the whole sodding wardrobe. And I always get fatter over summer. And I hate the heat (which I believe you do as well). But you are a whole stone down already whereas I am now at least a stone up on March - our 'weight' paths must be due to meet very very soon .

Of course I shall ignore Suzywong who breezes onto this thread and is already 11lbs and several cms down. And Norks who I forget has just had a baby sometimes because she is so virtuous. Harrumph.

But ceiling is fine, thanks for asking, although we are shower-less. Very inconvenient in this heat. (Can you tell I hate the heat?).
