Help me find a really nice dress for new fellas work do!

So I have a new boyfriend, and I meeting his colleagues at a christmas do on 12th December - so I have time. I want to look good of course, not show him up!

Im 51, BMI 23, curvy - I have massive boobs (34gg), slim waist with flat tum, but
very chunky arms and legs that I like covered. He loves me in dresses, so I think id like to wear a dress. A big issue is shoes, I never know what to wear. Flats with a midi dress make my calves look enormous - so i cheat and wear knee high boots. But not all dresses look good with them do they? Id wear a pair of black shiny knee high boots with a slight heel if I had to make the look work. Id rather that than a pair of high heels.

Anyway, any ideas? Im thinking something slinky, shiny, velvety???

I like this I think. But is it a bit cheap and tarty - or is it stylish and funky?? Black Faux Leather Popper Midi Pencil Dress. Would cover the tops of my arms and my chunky thighs and I could wear with knee high boots? Or is it a bit dominatrix. 😂

The red dress is lovely. Why not try some black velvet shoes with pointy toes and kitten heels. Black velvet bag and some good tights.

I don't think kitten heels are very flattering unless you have skinny ankles and calves - which I very much do not sadly.

What kind of do is it? Dinner and disco or something a bit more formal?

Have you thought about maybe a jumpsuit with chunky ankle heels?

There are a couple of yours curve dresses on next that would be worth a look. You'd be the smallest size they do but there's room for boobs and you'd be able to try them on. Suggestion

Id also have a look at if you could get something from pepperberry second hand. Was bravissimos clothes range.

That Christina Hendricks dress is perfect. I know because i am a similar build to you. It is cut for hourglass body shape.

I recommend shoes like these black velvet block heels from M&S The t-strap gives extra support, the chunky heels makes them easy to walk in and the low platform means they are not as high as they look. The style fits well with the Joanie aesthetic. I have similar - a few years old now – also from M&S. Incredibly comfortable and they get compliments.

Edited to add the t-strap isn't on the ankle, but across the arch of the foot, so it is flattering even if you have quite sturdy ankles and calves.

Have you bought the cristina dress? Id love to hear from someone who has. Its a LOT of money. But there does seem to be a fair amount of detail to it hey. And if I invest it could be my 'xmas dress' for a few years.

I've got your size chest and a bigger waist than you and can't imagine for a moment this would work. I'd need to size up for the chest then it would be far too baggy round the middle.

Yeh you might be right. I only thought of this cos I have the same dress (I think) from sosander in the blue denim and it fits great. Size 12 but I wear a belt. So I thought maybe (if it is the same) it would work? Maybe not. Being hourglass really sux doesnt it.

Not corporate but all his workmates at a fancy restaurant for a christmas dinner, paid for by the bosses. Lots of richies going. No disco or anything. Just dinner. I have huge social anxiety so Im already sweating just thinkign about it tbh.

I would absolutely LOVE to wear a jumpsuit. So easy then. But being tall, and big norks, I have never found one that works. I have tried on eleventy million of them too because I want one soooo bad. I always think they look so chic - and you can wear them with flat shoes!!

Budget would be 100 - but Id push it for something special like the cristina dress. I was going to buy it but someone said it was aging!!!

Usually buy at New Look, M&S, Jo Browns, Joules, Boden, Nobodys Child. But can't find anything. :(
