Skirt/ jumper look. Am I too big for it? Or doing it wrong

Honestly, I like how this looks on other people but I am not sure if I am doing it right.

Pics are bad, we only have 1 proper mirror pushed into the spare room at the min. That's just the dress, jumper tucked and jumper untucked. Then in the wild.

I'm just not sure I pull it off.

@pontipinemum , the dress does nothing for you. The cable jumper over it makes you look like you grabbed something in a hurry.
You look fine in the jeans and t-shirt.

The cable jumper adds bulk, the dress is loose over the waist and adds bulk.
I agree with others - the dress is a lovely colour. Team it with a fitted jacket or cardigan.

i'd ditch the jumper.

bridgetreilly · 29/10/2025 11:00

Oh, and I would be looking for a cropped cardigan with that dress, rather than a jumper.

meatyryvita · 29/10/2025 11:02

The jumper is too bulky with the dress (it's giving Handmaids in winter vibes). Lovely dress though but pair it with something a little more sleek (fitted denim jacket or the like).

RiseOfTheTeenyTinies · 29/10/2025 11:09

Dress is fab on you by itself.

I agree with other posters you have to balance baggy at one end with fitted at the other - big jumper, fitted bottoms. Baggy/full bottoms, fitted top.

I know other people can pull of the voluminous both look but I have never achieved it.

keepmeright · 29/10/2025 11:14

Love the dress, really suits you. I like the folded knitted jumper with sleeves down, last pic. I do think a cropped jumper would work better. Jeans also look great, I think your other options would go well with the jeans but don't go with the dress

TeaBoxFlower · 29/10/2025 11:16

You need a better bra

You need a finer knit, more fitted jumper. It either needs to be cropped length or you need to tuck it into a belt you wear inside it. The jumper needs to stop at your narrowest point

You need to push your jumper and your dress sleeves up to half way between elbow and wrist. (you can fold your dress cuffs over your jumper cuffs to add colour)

You need a necklace over the jumper

Peclet · 29/10/2025 11:19

You have had gray advice re the jumper skirt.

I don’t think those jeans are your shape- I think you need a bigger flare to balance it out. Wide leg would be good or maybe a slim
barrel With a fitted top.

suburburban · 29/10/2025 11:22

I think the dress is nice and I like the colour on you but like a lot of dresses nowadays the waist is very high itms

vapourtrail · 29/10/2025 11:23

I like the dress with the cream cardigan, from one of your later pics. Shows the dress, and your slim waist / great boobs while looking comfy. If you have the same dress in navy I’d keep it if I were you, I think it is flattering look for your figure!

BoringBarbie · 29/10/2025 11:31

I'm always in a jumper/dress combo but I think it needs to be a shorter skirt with a bit of volume to contrast with a more fitted jumper.

Y0208680333367 · 29/10/2025 11:31

I love the dress and it looks great on you and your figure! Kill the jumper accessory though 🙃

Evergreen21 · 29/10/2025 11:34

For the first outfit I would say that there is an imbalance in terms of the outfit. Both the dress and jumper are too bulky. The dress on its own is fine as is the jumper. To achoeve the look you want i would go for a shorter cardigan or jumper that ends at your waist and not at the hips. A well fitting bra would make all the difference on how you carry your outfits.

I would watch some videos on YouTube or follow people on Instagram with a similar body shape to you to get an idea of how best to dress your shape. In the initial photo you look to have a slimmer waist compared to hips and then in the photo in the jeans it looks the opposite. Have a look at videos on how to dress for your shape, use them to identify what shape you are and then go from there.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 29/10/2025 11:36

I am also a woman blessed with fabulous boobs like you and I just cannot pull off chunky jumpers at all. You need a finer knit to make it work.

The pic with the dress and white cardigan looks fab because we can see your waist.

Also a better bra that lifts your boobs up higher will help

welshweasel · 29/10/2025 11:39

Get a better fitting bra. Some high waisted wide leg jeans and a v neck top to tuck into them.

pontipinemum · 29/10/2025 11:39

This is the navy one. I bought the green carigan thinking it would go with it. The picture with the cardi closed and full length I look like an escaped nun.

OK I have so many ideas here and you cannot know how much I appreciate it!! I think I need to take to insta or tik tok

Where do you shop for bras? My 2nd baby is in the process of being weaned. So my poor boobs are in a terrible state!

I like the dress but I don’t think the jumper goes with it. Maybe a tank top would work or short sleeve jumper so you can still see the arms of the dress?

I am actually going over to a bigger town tomorrow with an M&S instead of returning the jeans online I think I will go into the shop and try on lots of different types!

I think you look lovely with the jumper on.

I have similar large boobs and don't like Empire waist dresses (the dress has a fitted bodice ending just below the bust, giving a high-waisted appearance, and a gathered skirt), but with a jumper on top it looks nice.

GarlicHound · 29/10/2025 11:45

Mary28 · 29/10/2025 10:15

I think the jumper looks better tucked but it's a bit too bulky as a result of being tucked. A cropped jumper would probably be better.
I see the look you're going for, it's really cute and I think you can carry it off with that dress and a less bulky jumper.

Isn't it so annoying how bloody hard it can be to achieve a look that looks so effortless on others? I have this ALL the time. I just give up. Head to toe outfit planning is exhausting.

Agree with this. What you did with the dress + jumper rolled, sleeves pulled up, worked well, OP. Problem is it wouldn't stay like that and it didn't work when the jumper unfurled! A cropped, three-quarter sleeve jumper would get it right with less extra volume.

I'll leave your thread to work with you on everything else. Hope you're enjoying your revamp!

Irenesortof · 29/10/2025 11:48

Dress looks good without jumper.
Jumper is too bulky - try one in thin wool and longer length.
Then wear it with a proper skirt with a waistband to define your shape.

Aluna · 29/10/2025 11:51

QueenOfToast · 29/10/2025 10:18

I love the jumpers over dresses look, but I think your jumper needs to be much shorter. See photo attached of the lovely styling of a knitting shop lady (La Bien Aimee on insta).

Exactly. It needs to be a cropped slim fitting cardi or a long line slim fitting one.

Not many people could pull off Arran with full skirt.

TheLemonOtter · 29/10/2025 11:54

I'm clearly in a minority, but I think that dress is too high waisted on you, and in combo with the round neck, makes your top half look very short. I think you might find a v neck or a lower waist gives you better proportions. I also thought the jeans looked great on you but the white top with them is a bit too long.

Maireas · 29/10/2025 11:55

Yes, I agree, it's very highly waisted. Goo advice about creating a V shape with a jacket or cardigan.

ObtuseMoose · 29/10/2025 11:56

I think you're swamping yourself in really ugly fabrics so of course it doesn't work. Try some less voluminous items.
