Skirt/ jumper look. Am I too big for it? Or doing it wrong

Honestly, I like how this looks on other people but I am not sure if I am doing it right.

Pics are bad, we only have 1 proper mirror pushed into the spare room at the min. That's just the dress, jumper tucked and jumper untucked. Then in the wild.

I'm just not sure I pull it off.

Both those things make you look super frumpy. Together or separately. Sorry but you did ask.

You need to use optical illusion to pull off the dress. Long necklace and a long chunky cardigan in a darker colour. Chunky platform boots.

Bin the jumper.

lol at the idea that you’re counteracting “frumpy” with a long necklace and long cardigan…

EcruCardigan · 11/11/2025 18:32

@ObliviousCoalmine , do you have a better suggestion?

This has been a great supportive thread, let's not spoil it now by getting sarky with each other.

NigelForage · 11/11/2025 20:59

The dress is terrible

Wide leg jeans. I was very unsure so I didn't buy them

This is my favourite of all the photos you posted!

EcruCardigan · 11/11/2025 21:09

@NigelForage , when there's a thread with hundreds of posts on it, try to at least read the OP's replies before posting.
OP has made leaps and bounds with her wardrobe since the start of the thread., and seems a lovely young mum.

My closest Dunnes isn't that big.

Funny tho you have commented, I was diagnosed with ADHD yesterday! I am in a bit of a spin about it,. It is combined and 'sever' I thought I was grand. They also said I have traumatic stress disorder, and that I am just on the boarder line for Autism which I must say was not on my radar at all.

Is there anywhere on here you post to chat about it?

Oh, my goodness, what a collection of diagnosis! Better to know though and then work things out for you and your family. I dont know where you can talk about it, but is there any follow up now you have the diagnosis? They should be able to give you information about resources and support.

Florencesndzebedee · 11/11/2025 23:05

I’m afraid I’m not keen on the dress (as a fuller figured person myself). It looks a bit too tight on top and the flare out makes the bottom half look fuller. Possibly it’s just an ill fitting bra that could make a difference if changed? I also think the navy might look better on than the rust colour.

I’d be inclined to go for a shift or tulip type knitted dress with a same length coat, or a pencil type skirt in denim. Both can be worn with flats or knee length boots. Jumpers need to be thinner and shorter if they’re being tucked in.

Glad to see that MN acted quickly on Nige. Look after yourself OP.

I am going to book in with my own GP because she is wonderful. But I will need to go to a private psychiatrist for 'next steps'. I am in Ireland, in theory these things can be done on the HSE (NHS) but you'll be waiting.

Thanks everyone, this actually has been such an amazing thread. Today I am wearing black jeans and a light v-neck jumper, with a big structured cardi over it because it is closed.

I actually think in the few weeks since I started this my wardrobe has taken on a whole new look. All very ordinary looking clothes, but as a few people suggested that was a good place to start.

I know clothes aren't everything, but I feel nicer in what I am wearing. Which then makes me feel happier and more confident. I will still wear leggings on the days I know I am outside with DC all day, and throw on huge hoodys and wellys when farming. But I have nice things to wear too.

Such a good update, what you are wearing sounds like that berocca advert.
You, but on a good day. Instead of feeling that every day was you on a bad day.
When you are ready, you can think about adding a couple of more special items, for when you want to feel a bit more special, and you've got used to your new look. You'll have a better idea of what you like and what suits you, once the look has "bedded in".

henlake7 · 12/11/2025 19:53

Glad to hear it's a good day OP. I really loved those jeans on you, flared and bootcuts are brilliant at balancing out apple shapes and really suit you.
I wouldn't worry too much about what is in fashion but rather what suits you TBH. I feel like v or scoop necks arent really the thing at the moment but they really suit more curvy figures.

You were saying?

That is not the ‘long cardigan’ mentioned and you know full well it isn’t.

Kudos on the energy you put into that though.

EcruCardigan · 13/11/2025 00:16

@ObliviousCoalmine Your posts are not helpful to the OP or the spirit of the thread, and only reflect badly on you.

isthismylifenow · 13/11/2025 08:55

@pontipinemum

It has taken my a little while to get through your thread, so I am a bit late here. You most certainly do have a lot on your plate at the moment, and now getting your diagnosis must be quite something to process. Although, you might have known deep down, getting something confirmed is always something to have to digest.

I felt overwhelmed by your thread so I can only imagine how you must feel. There is just so much information here, which is great, but it is just a lot!

I am not going to comment on any of your outfits, but to say as the photos were added, I can see you have taken a lot in and you do look really nice.

But this is not something you can manage in a few weeks. It takes time to build up items that you love, and to work out how to style them in different ways. It is really okay stick with what you have now and love, and just tweak here and there.

You have been so very graceful on your thread.

I will just add in that I think navy and the rust colour are definitively in your colour palette.

pontipinemum · 16/11/2025 16:38

@isthismylifenow thank you 😊I have been at college all day, I wore nothing exciting, slim leg jeans I already had, a v neck white t and a v neck black jumper, brown belt and a huge cardigan/ coat. I also but on a little bit of make up and braided my hair. I actually feel so much better for it.

If you have a v neck jumper get one of these to wear under it https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E478794-000/00?colorDisplayCode=00&sizeDisplayCode=003
Buy it a size or 2 smaller than normal so it fits to the skin and doesn't add bulk. It will stop you looking booby but will allow the V neck of the jumper to break the girls up a bit.

It will also work well under your blue crew nec cardigan if you leave the top buttons undone - this sort of look but the t shirt will have a lower and therefore more flattering neckline https://www.staffuniforms.co.uk/products/seattle-crew-neck-cardigan?srsltid=AfmBOorp83tBhcNc67sc5Vs7LciAr6SeFspuN9oc2UJeMI2puF6crJU8

I basically live in this sort of outfit with wide leg trousers.
