Explain the shiny, 'raw' looking faces everywhere nowadays... how is it achieved?

Hi all, I am old enough to no longer know what the beautiful young things are doing to their skin.... This shiny, skin scrubbed raw look is a mystery to me. I love the older dewy, fresh natural look, but this is another level and it looks a bit much in my humble opinion. However, I'd love to know what they're doing to achieve this look? As someone who focuses on using simple products with very gentle, natural ingredients, I expect I won't want to partake, but I'm willing to be converted!

I have no idea what the people who are talking about red raw ecxema skin are looking at, but it’s not glass skin. Do you have a picture?!

TheEveningReport · 12/10/2025 16:13

I just look a greasy mess with massive pores if my skin is this shiny,

I strive to have skin like that, it's quite glassy now, but of course I still have pores and stuff. It is acheved by Korean skincare - exfoliation yes as well, but mostly tons of moisture, I use several toners, ampoules, serums and creams all on top of each other. I'm in my late 40s so much prefer the plump slightly shiny skin to my previous parched wrinkly one.

Please can you share what products you use?

Ive never liked a shiny or dewey face. I like matt looking skin.

Strawberrypicnic · 12/10/2025 16:28

It's Botox as others say, and they are probably quite over-exfoliated using tretinoin or high strength acids, which isn't good for your skin long term.

I don’t think that looks red raw at all? It looks quite natural

FatAgain · 12/10/2025 16:43

Could o achieve this doing a peel, one of the heavy duty ones? I am very lined and only 52

Glass skin isn’t permanent, it’s product led.
You prepare your skin everyday and the look wears off. You can’t do something once and get it

SeaAndStars · 12/10/2025 16:48

I have seen a few people like this and they look like they're varnished.

outerspacepotato · 12/10/2025 16:51

There's a makeup trend, igari makeup, that is very flushed and red like you were out drinking, use a lot of red blush under your eyes and across your nose and cheeks and that's the raw, ruddy look. The glossy, glowy skin is glass skin and that's been trendy for a while. It looks different that the shininess from Botox.

I top off my morning skin care and sunscreen with a thin layer of an occlusive like Aquaphor when it's cold and windy and it looks very glossy with that on.

Sasssquatch · 12/10/2025 16:54

I’m a big old Korean 10 step gal and am acutely aware that the line between glow and grease is a thin one. I spend the first hour of the day a bit slimy but my skin is better than it’s ever been. I tend towards dry and crusty naturally

I’m glad greasy skin is in as that’s what I have 😆

I have a near constant sweaty glow these days thanks to tamoxifen and menopause; I’ve started dermatica and I think my skin is smoother. And I’m wearing a sun screen that works for me, but is maybe a bit shiny? personally don’t like it but can’t seem to do much about it! I wear bare minerals powder over the top but the ‘glow’ breaks through

It’ll be back to 90s / 00s Matte in a couple of years, don’t worry!

WarriorN · 12/10/2025 16:59

And for once my ruddy cheeks seem to be in too 🤣

butterfly0404 · 12/10/2025 17:02

I have this since using tret (Dermatica) and I quite like it. My skin has always been pretty good though

ah I think that might be it here. Plus the meno glow

Charlize43 · 12/10/2025 17:12

It looks kinda greasy - like someone has just finished a shift a McDonalds frying up burgers.

Wouldn't you also get a load of blown dust & shit sticking to your face when you go out on a windy day?

I just clicked on it and see the influencer not the PP.

Lovemycat2023 · 12/10/2025 17:32

I saw a candid photo of myself and my skin looked very “wet”. I use a lots of moisturiser, and spf 50, but it didn’t look good with my wrinkles! (Am mid 40s)

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 12/10/2025 17:35

As I was a mid 90s teen it's matte all the way for me. Anything "dewy" skin wise and I just look sweaty! Grin

MorningFresh · 12/10/2025 11:58

Is that the look Corrie's Abbi is sporting?
Looks like an overdose of moisturiser not rubbed in.

Yeah, can't believe the change in her, still pretty though

Looks weird, like a greasy onion.

Hehe. Love it ! 😊
