Explain the shiny, 'raw' looking faces everywhere nowadays... how is it achieved?

Hi all, I am old enough to no longer know what the beautiful young things are doing to their skin.... This shiny, skin scrubbed raw look is a mystery to me. I love the older dewy, fresh natural look, but this is another level and it looks a bit much in my humble opinion. However, I'd love to know what they're doing to achieve this look? As someone who focuses on using simple products with very gentle, natural ingredients, I expect I won't want to partake, but I'm willing to be converted!

Whatever it is it looks awful.
I wouldn't want a shiny face.

BigFatBully · 12/10/2025 18:05

Probably miscellar water.

I have no idea what the people who are talking about red raw ecxema skin are looking at, but it’s not glass skin. Do you have a picture?!

This. It’s awful.

My mother had very good skin. She wore ponds cold cream at night, looked so greasy. Then ponds day cream.

I’m convinced Charlotte tilbury miracle cream is just ponds cold cream in a gold pot for 100 times the price

She is red and blotchy- but neither does she have glass skin?!

I’ve just returned from a holiday in Europe, where we were staying there were all kinds of nationalities.

then a group of brits turned up. Stupidly large black lashes, brows you could land a plane on, pumped up lips and immobile foreheads

go to ANY European city you don’t see this level of of cosmetic deformity, ditto NYC or California

the female fashion for makeup and cosmetic procedures is out of control!

This is nonsense! It's the Khardashian look (i.e. American) and is favoured by a lot of women of all nationalities.

Fizbosshoes · 12/10/2025 18:19

I have greasy skin and I dont even like wearing moisturiser most of the time, because I cant bear to add anything to it iykwim. I wear tinted moisturiser if im wearing make up or going out, but most of the time I put nothing on my face. Im quite put off my any sort of facial that uses oils, it would be my worst nightmare.

Obviously i am completely ignorant of general skincare, and current trends, much to DD (19) despair. She uses about 10 different products/potions on her skin ...but it does look good (and not shiny!)

Red and blotchy and shiny and wet looking, how are you not seeing that?

Really. It's a very distinctive smell and composition.

JaquelineHide · 12/10/2025 18:27

I didn't realise Bonnie Blue was doing that to her skin on purpose 😯

It’s not glass skin at all. The shine just looks like the light she’s using to record

NNforthispost · 12/10/2025 18:30

I’d love Korean glass skin but I’ll never look like the young ladies do….. but I’m lucky in achieving the trendy shiny look with the hot flushes I’m getting I guess 🤣🤣🤣. In fact I was on a doo this week and kept getting sympathetic pats on my shoulder and people asking if I was alright,….. my hormones really showed me up. Was rocking the glass skin look together with the wet look hair….

Please can you share what products you use?

Sure

Watch any of her videos. She looks like that in all of them, even ones where she’s putting on makeup. It’s deliberate and looks hideous. It’s also not a good advert for a skincare company.

AliceMaforethought · 12/10/2025 20:26

She looks terrible, as if she'd eaten something that she was allergic to. Why would anyone want to look like that!?

Sasssquatch · 12/10/2025 20:39

She’s a woman of a certain age showing the reality of what her skin looks like 🤷🏼‍♀️

if she was filtered to kingdom come we’d complain about that too. I quite admire her for extreme close ups on her older skin under a harsh ring light. Most of us look a bit blotchy, wrinkled, crepey by the time we’re at the end of our 40s

It’s not about looking wrinkled or crepey (and mine doesn’t look anything like that, thank you). Her skin is red and shiny and wet looking and if you’ve watched any of her “here’s how I get ready/do my make up in 5 minutes” videos you would know she achieves that look with products that she’s trying to sell under her Trinny London brand.
I mean, if deliberately looking like you’re recovering from a bodged chemical peel is your thing, fill your boots, but it looks bloody awful.

Nutmuncher · 12/10/2025 23:15

Usually a sign of someone taking care of themselves. Likely just had a facial / peel / bare faced letting their skin breathe without the need to cake on foundation.

BigFatBully · 12/10/2025 18:05

Probably miscellar water.

Why would micellar water leave your skin red and wet looking?

I think the glass skin trend looks ridiculous. But each to their own.

pumpkinscake · 13/10/2025 00:37

Wow, just when you think you've seen the worst of social media. I feel huge pity for young people, the relentlessness of it all.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 13/10/2025 01:13

Hailey Bieber has my dream skin. It’s this perfect in person. I hate her. lol

She barely has pores.

Such an ugly look on a face. But each to their own.
