All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...especially as it was half term.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Sw if you are taking your vitamins you won't have scurvy. And you're allowed lemon and lime juice, loadsa vit c.

SW, they say no crisps ever BUT have you seen the recipe for parmesan 'crisps'?

Put oven on to 180, get a baking tray with baking parchment, get some parmesan, grate it, with a bit of cheddar if you want. Then put it in little blobs on the baking tray and watch it like a hawk. It will melt and spread. When cold, peel off the tray and break up if it's all melted togethger and store in airtight container.

I made them but was unsuccessful as used mainly cheddar, which doesn#t work, not crispy enough. Let me know how they are if you do make them, must buy more Parmesan and try.

Pecka, if you know you won't be able to do no carbs then agree, you shouldn#t do I&N.

Today
2 sausage and egg muffins
salad with lettuce, green beans, tuna, anchovies, quail egg, cucumber and vinaigrette
lots of salami and cambozola butI totally realised I was eating because of stress/boredom combo, which isn#t good is it? I am working from home but had TEDIOIUS thing to get done and I alternately procrastinating and working on it.

But hey. I was snacking on allowed things at least I suppose.

Tonight we are having thai red curry with prawns. I will have barely cooked green beans with it.
Not as much water as if I was at work but enough
no sunscreen but I only left the house for 15 mins to take ds to school

was in bed by 10 last night, up at 7am and this is third night of no wine.

Lovely photo Duchess.

wb Enid. Yes, it's easy, just eat less. So simple.

Lol Arfy - some of us live in old-lady shops.

Good luck for tomorrow JJ.

  • Sunscreen at all times yy
  • No booze.
  • Walking is important, ahem fell at the second hurdle today - too busy doing neighbours a favour, lol. Went swimming instead tonight for the first time in a fortnight and have used twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream - steamed, scrubbed and slathered.
  • Use hand cream, lax.
  • Go to bed early, asleep by 12.
  • Eat healthily, yes good day, until DS1 bought home the cheese and ham pasties he'd made at school. Well one has to doesn't one?
  • Be happy. Yep, short day at work, skived to help with chauffeuring the boys at some school thing so got to spend an unexpected 1/2 hour with DH, giggling in the rain. DS3 appears to be his usual self again.

DH has had a Eureka moment about how to fit in a new fridge/freezer in the kitchen. Now, if he'd just listened to me when we had the kitchen fitted nearly 4 years ago....

chutneymary · 03/06/2008 20:03

Duchess - Archie is gorgeous, congratulations . Makes me feel quite broody.

WWW / Suzy = food sounds great, very luxurious. I could never do a low carb diet either though Pecka so I will not be joining them to lose my baby flab (from babies 1 and 2 as well as this one). IS it terribly expensive? It looks like treat food and I can imagine offloading several pounds in twatrose on the delicious meat and fish.

L and S, I am 13 weeks now, so quite a long haul yet.

Saggars - could never do a body, even in my slim days. Crushes your bosoms so that they look like 2 flattened frisbees if they are very wide like mine. And the poppers - euch! No chance of me wearing one, pregnant or not.

Enid - how was the radiant Nigella? I saw her in Heals a few years ago and she is beautiful. She was on "A taste of my life" last week and is even better at 40 something than 20 something. Her mother looked gorgeous too in the photos. I love TOML, and all the scrummy food. Nigella's final feast did look as though it would have fed 10 hjungry people rather than just her and Nigel.

Bama - I find shorts quite scary on most people, even the very slim.

Good food today, but not enough exercise. WIll try harder tom.

tortoiseSHELL · 03/06/2008 20:07

Hello all, feel like I drift in and out of this thread a bit atm, but just had to say DofN - he is GORGEOUS!!! Absolutely beautiful! I want one!

We are chickenpox laden. Ds2 is spotty, poor little mite. But he is quite surprisingly chirpy.

Will read the rest of the thread now, but hope you are all having a good week (well better than me boot camp wise). Dh has just had a scare with his blood pressure - the GP took it and it was borderline high, so we are going to really try and sort out our lives to get that down (assuming it wasn't some sort of bizarre one off reading).

JJ · 03/06/2008 20:51

Very quickly checking in - when I've been good the past week or so, I've been very very good but when I've been bad...

It's because my mother and aunt bought damn Pop Tarts (irresistible) and chocolate chip cookies a few days ago and I'm stress eating.

Thanks for well-wishes. I will let you know how it goes. Have stashed boxes of Dorset cereal bars for sustenance tomorrow during long wait through surgery; they're not so carb-tastic as other bars but still not I&N worthy, I wouldn't think.

I will look for the WWW 10yy roundup by Marina upon my return. I am home on Thursday night (dh doing that evening at hosp). No pressure, Marina, none at all. But it will be around 8.30pm or so. Thanks.

WideWebWitch · 03/06/2008 20:59

Good luck for tomorrow JJ.

LoveAndSqualor · 03/06/2008 21:30

Hello all, sprinting through on way to eat supper (chicken and couscous), but just had to say Duchess, both your children are gorgeous, I welled up at the pic (never used to do this pre-DS, what a sap he has made of me).

And suzy - lololol at scurvy . Squeeze a lime over your eggs, maybe?

ooh I have just applied for an extra job - on top of my normal one. Think I may be in the grip of hormonal madness - but it would take me v little time I think (huge overlap with current job), and is soooo up my street, and, well, I'd just really like to do it. So wish me luck. If I get an interview (which I can't imagine I won't) I have to give a 10-minute presentation on contemporary poetry next week. Erk.

LoveAndSqualor · 03/06/2008 21:32

Hmmn, just realised reading back how smug I sound! When I say I can't imagine I won't get an interview, this is not because of my brilliance, rather because the subject-matter means the pool of potential applicants is vanishingly small!

Right. Wine, I think (just a small, bootcampish glass ). Have good evenings, all.

WideWebWitch · 03/06/2008 21:35

Good luck L&S and I bet you do get an interview! Didn't sound smug to me, sounded just like you've got the right experience, good for you!

OP posts:
Prufrock · 03/06/2008 23:20

Good luck to L&S and JJ and her boy (Knew you wouldn't last long with the new name btw - some people, many of them here on this thread, jsut always will be their original name and can't metamorphosize into another name)

I've been good except for 2 small chocolate cakes at tea, 2 chocolate biscuits at bridge (where I played abysmally L&S - went 2 down in a slam dunk 6H because of a stupid miscount) and a slice of chocolate bombe. So not actually that good- just huge chocolate cravings today, and I don't think I'm pre-menstrual

DofN - you lucky thing . He looks divine. Congratulations. I am suffering BAD baby cravings (always go through it when my youngest child hits 2 - hence three children 2.9 months apart!!) and (don't tell anyone) would love a little boy...sigh...

OK. www I have been reading the I and N diet book this morning and am going to do it. Starting Monday. I have a very good friends dinner party on Sat and I want to drink!! Have another big party on June 28 so I can fit in the 2 weeks before that. Have booked my online shopping slot for Monday night so I can order everything I need. I will find the unsugary tea and decaff coffee the hardest (also the no wine at the weekend ) - but have factored in a takeaway curry each friday night - dh will be thrilled!

Feel rotten today with a bad cold coming and feel very fat and unattractive - we had a typically nigella meal on monday night - cambodiean beef salad, roast chicken salad, courgette and bean salad (all quite good)...but there was also the world's best fish pie and the toffee and peanut ice cream...plus the three bottles of wine between four and the champagne to start...still we laughed a lot and I made a bit of a tit of myself in a good way so all very cheering. During the q and a someone asked if Antony Worral thompson was really a jumped up little twat or did he just come across that way on tv - heh heh. NL v diplomatic and yes v v beautiful, if rather 'starry' and surrounded by entourage helping her with pretty much everything.

So www, before I trawl through this thread for your tips can you summarise any potential pitfalls with diet??

Enid · 04/06/2008 11:53

oh by the way my comment about just eat less etc was directed 100% at myself and noone else in case it came across as smug!

bamamama · 04/06/2008 12:19

Hello all,

L&S - the first thread I started on MN was about the fact that I kept blubbing at everything post baby and would this state of affairs ever stop. I'm as hard nosed as ever now though

WWW - I made the muffins today - fabulous! I had rather a lot of egg mixture left over though (shallow muffin tray?) so we had very creamy omlette for dinner and a muffin as post dinner snack. Am looking forward to brekkie!

I had a day in the library today working hard as usual but unfortunately succumed to a cherry and apple muffin and a piece of carrot cake. So, another day of snacking really.

DH out on the piss with work so an early night for me. Night night all.

tortoiseSHELL · 04/06/2008 12:33

Oh Enid, go for it! I REALLY want another too, but I have to keep telling myself not yet, because ds2 is still a baby really (even though he is in a big boys bed )

Prufrock - lol at your chocolate post - sounds great!

L&S - hope your application goes well!

JJ - hope everything is going well today - love to you all! x

PeckaRolloverAgain · 04/06/2008 12:43

Ive been good if not a little bored on slimming world!

havent messed up yet and its day 3 - good going for me!

just had a wiifit session and ive lost 2lbs and now back in the ideal BMI range - was most disturbed it put me as overweight when I first got it! So thats 5lbs in a month, not TOO bad!!

Hoping to lose what I want to in time to wear some nice clothes this summer - feel like a tramp today as my clothes are getting looser and just look a bit crap!

WideWebWitch · 04/06/2008 13:04

Hello all,
in haste as am at work
but enid, welcome to I and N, I am truly finding it fab and I have to say, I had to have my photo taken for work today and I look 99% better than I did 5 weeks ago despite a half term of drinking wine (but still sticking to it in every other way).

My main tips are

  • get the vits in advance, holland and barrett took AGES to deliver to me
  • plan what you're going to eat in advance
  • SCRUTINISE labels. Sugar/lactose/dextrose in EVERYTHING. Hard to find sugar free mayo for eg and bacon, bizarrely.
  • it really really honestly promisedly does get better after day 5. If I can give up caffeine and wine, anyone can! Although am now back on caffeine as they say you can after first 2 weeks. I only have one cup a day though, with 2 tsp of instant coffee.

Dh remarked how I seem to have loads more energy and he's right. Also think about whether you can stick to no carbs as they seem to say if you can't don't do it as you'll just put it all on again.

Good luck, so far the results have been great for me, will post starting weight when I'm where I want to be and you can all swoon in horror!

OP posts:
Enid · 04/06/2008 13:07

I think I can do no carbs

although I really really love pasta. My plan is to eat it every fortnight or so once I have lost weight

Was just going to ask about the no sugar mayo! have checked hellmans - no good and can't BEAR to make it myself...

arfishy · 04/06/2008 13:20

Well another boring virtuous day.

Hot oats for breakfast
Low fat cheese and crackers for lunch (microscopic portion of). Curiously satisfying.
Low fat shepherds pie for dinner.
No point veggie soup with slice of rye bread for supper. I made a new vat with extra chilli and mint which I am rather pleased with.

I decided to give the WiiFit another chance, slightly hindered by the fact that I'd forgotten my 'embarrassing stats' password in the space of 3 days [dementia]. It started off well, declaring that I'd lost 2lb since my last weigh in 3 days ago (we will conveniently ignore the fact that this amount is the same as the 'heavy clothes' option). With big fanfares it shaved a millimetre from my fatty WiiMii. Woohoo! Then it and did another test and declared my WiiFit age 58 . An increase of 3 years on my original test.

I persevered and did lots of hula-hooping, stepping, stepping plus (note to self: do not try to clap when using weights) and jogging.

So, aside from being humiliated by the Wii, a good day.

No wine, only one baileys liquer filled chocolate, sunscreen, water, fruit and veg and an early bedtime.

Good luck to those on the India plan. Hope all goes well JJ.

suzywong · 04/06/2008 15:01

oh Enid, welcome

I never use mayonnaise as raw eggs are the devil's periods

You'll love it

Hello

JJ, I hope you and your ds are ok

Arfy, snort at the wiifit telling you outrageous things but well done on virtuous day

Well done pecka, that's fab

TS, go for it, you can do another baby, you whippersnapper you!

Bama, they are nice aren't they? I had stuff left over too and ended up chucking a bit of it but dh got loads more in the trays than I did and they rose over the top in most pleasing muffin fashion. Are you IandN ing then? (sorry, can't remember!)

Enid, lol at Anthony WT question

Prufrock, well sometimes you've just got to give into chocolate cravings. Well, I don't obv, as it is crack to me atm but you can!
