All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...especially as it was half term.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

A very big welcome back Marina, we missed you.

Yoyo, I am finding 10yo ds a challenge sometimes atm too, sympathy on the 12yo. I chased ds around upstairs, shrieking, this am, armed with my hair straighteners - he was being aggressive towards me so I chose the nearest thing as a weapon should I need to defend myself. I don't smack him btw but he is tall and threatened me this morning, although didn't actually hit me or anything. But goodness, we get SO cross with each other, I had at least 3 I HATE yous from him, for no good reason. I also threw a beanbag at him and missed and he has taken the piss out of me for both ever since - the straighteners "what were you going to do mum, STRAIGHTEN me? How would that have helped?" and the beanbag: "god, you're a rubbish shot, I was so close, however did you miss me?" and we have both since profusely apologised. All is now calm in the WWW coven. Thank goodness.

Pecka, pmt? Are you synchronising wih us?

Lol ureb - yes having three generally means doing lots of 'stuff' doesn't it?

JJ hope you and JJjr are on the up. Although I don't imagine the getting up for Jnr will be much fun. dd ceremoniously threw up on the physio the first time they got her out of bed (both times - and it was the same physio lol!)

Iota - ouch, the ankle sounds painful.

Teens - ah they're fab really you know. ds2 has just introduced me to his first proper girlfriend. Which means dh will have to give him 'the talk' again.....he's generally very organised but I'd bet my life he won't have any condoms in his wallet when he needs them. dd wants a new bra - preferably bright pink or bright blue which I can only find in underwired versions (they aren't supposed to wear wires whilst they're growing),and it's All My Fault. My number one tip for teens after 'Pick your battles' is Do Not, Never Ever, introduce them to the joys of a mobile phone contract. Grim.

Party tonight - so I'm having wine later

tortoiseSHELL · 07/06/2008 17:01

www - I'm chuckling at the image of you running round your house with hair straighteners!!! And your ds can NOT be 10. It is not possible! ALthough having said that, ds1 is 7 in 9 days - 9 DAYS! - and was playing the violin in the Colston Hall a few weeks back! It doesn't seem that long since we were taking him, dd and your dd for walks in Leigh Woods and trying to stop him freaking out at dogs! I'm guessing your dd is starting school this September?

Marina, welcome back! Glad you had a great time!

JJ - how's your boy doing now? xxxx to him!

Bad luck on the foot Iota!

Enid - I so wouldn't manage IandN - though I am trying to eat less of the dreaded carbs. My new thing (haha) is to cook normal amounts, then freeze half of it, which should cut down portion sizes, which I think is the big prob in our house -dh and I are both greedy - and also should save money on food shopping which is scaring me atm!

Having said all that, we've all just enjoyed homemade icecreams from our hens' eggs. In fact lots of our street came and begged some too!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 07/06/2008 17:01

Oh and I wish i could synchronise with someone. My cycle is anything from 21 to 30 days - I can't even synchronise myself!

unknownrebelbang · 07/06/2008 17:07

rofl - did I mention the stuff they do?

(must learn to preview).

Teens and pre-teens, oh the joys. DS1 is a stroppy sulker and bangs doors a lot, DS2 blows up bigstyle, and DS3 is a loud woe-is-me and argue the toss with everyone (including the Head, sigh) and he's only 9!. I am (far too slowly) learning to pick my battles, but oooh it's hard.

I have, however, received a phone call from DS2 this morning - just to tell me he's having a great time, bless him.

They are great lads, and amazingly different in all sorts of ways (apart from looks, lol).

Ouch! Iota.

WideWebWitch · 07/06/2008 17:30

Iota, poor you, hope your foot is better soon.

Ts, yes, dd goes to school in Sept, how did that hpapen? And those Leigh Woods walks dd was a baby who couldn't walk, wasn't she? Blimey at Colston Hall, gosh, that's an achievement, well done to him!

Unknown and Saggars, thanks for the wisdom - Pick Your Battles, hmm, yes, I know the THEORY of that one but am a bit pants at the practice.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 07/06/2008 17:31

Saggars, how old is the girlfriend and ds2? I sooo wouldn't want to be a teenager again.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 07/06/2008 17:34

TS - my portion control is a bit hit and miss (DH's is worse than mine!)

I would love to do the IPD, the food sounds fab (and I'm faddy). DH did Atkins for a fortnight when it was all the rate, lost a stone and has more or less kept it off. I did it at the same time, and did lost about 10lb, but then went on holiday and DH riled me so much by saying no to all the usual holiday treats that I pigged out (stoopid I know).

I'm not sure I could maintain it long-term though, and do worry about kidney problems (have a minor history, as did my mother).

BUT www, it's great that you've found something that works for you (and Suzy - well done on your weightloss too). Enid, if you do start it, good luck.

I really do think if you can find something that suits you/your lifestyle, it can work.

Me? I'm doing my utmost to up my exercise rate - that works best for me, if only because I can't eat whilst i'm exercising, lol.

And I have managed to lose a pound this week.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 07/06/2008 17:36

www - my guidelines are Illegal, Immoral, or Annoys the neighbours; if it doesn't tick any of these boxes then I walk away and we talk about it later. I would never pretend to be an expert though because the minute I do that something will go badly wrong

yoyo · 07/06/2008 17:36

Saggars - let me know if you find one that isn't underwired as I have the same problem with DD1. Why do they underwire A cups in junior ranges?

WWW - we have the same things here. DD is only a smidge shorter than me and has on occasion done the nose-to-nose "go on then..." thing. The slamming of doors is a regular thing as is bursting into tears. "You are so mean" is frequently yelled. The lsit, I'm afraid, is endless although she is being quite normal today - not charming or anything but normal and that is a definite positive! Glad that this diet is really working for you by the way. I am enjoying reading your "food diaries" - your bill must be as bad as ours.

Moonshine - DD doesn't actually go anywhere just "hangs about with her mates". She did venture in to town without permission but was found out and grounded. Over half term. We paid dearly for that one.

Not doing especially well so far and will be going out and eating nibbles with wine for most of the evening. I have the trainer at 8.30 am so must not be hungover. Will drink lots of water.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 07/06/2008 17:37

ds is 17 next month You know I don't know how old she is ....17? Hopefully.

WideWebWitch · 07/06/2008 17:40

Saggars, just looked at your profile and OMG at those high ropes! Your dd looks lovely. 17, omg, I am scared of mine being 17 but good list immoral, illegal, annoying the neighbours.

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 07/06/2008 17:43

dd has a bit of a 'need for speed' TBH. Been to the edge and wants to back I think. She really wanted to do a 140ft abseil at Alton Castle next weekend but I've told her they won't allow under 16s. I'll probably be struck down for fibbing - well it's not really a fib - they wouldn't, would they?

unknownrebelbang · 07/06/2008 17:45

Oh what a lovely picture! (Had to have a peek.)

And am rofl at your description. Whodathunk - neckend on mumsnet!

WideWebWitch · 07/06/2008 17:46

Saggars, no, they wouldn't if you didn't allow it so it's not really a lie, it's erm, your interpretation

tortoiseSHELL · 07/06/2008 17:54

or indeed Mr Clinton's memories of Ms Lewinsky...

saggar - your dd is gorgeous!

Cammelia · 07/06/2008 17:57

Hi guys

Dropping in to say its my birthday today BUT I'm revising with dd as its her main end of year exams next week.

Dh and I are going out for lunch on Monday instead.

Have had a couple of glasses of Taittinger this afternoon though.

I've done lots of exercise this week including 2 hour-long aerobics sessions and am feeling more energetic.

WideWebWitch · 07/06/2008 17:57

Happy Birthday lovely Cam!

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 07/06/2008 18:03

Happy birthday Cam!

Marina · 07/06/2008 20:11

Happy birthday cam enjoy the Taittinger and good luck to dd with the revision
Dh and I celebrate 12 glorious years of blissful and harmonious marriage tomorrow
Saggars, ureb, whenever I read about older children on MN (you and wendyweber and our tigermoth are my role models I have to say) I get a tad sweaty and anxious. Ds will be a poppet I expect...but dd . I cannot bear to think about it. She is rude and saucy even now at four. Your dd looks so gorgeous saggars.
Iota - OUCH at the ankle
Drool at torty's ice-cream
I have just ordered Neris and India for the discussion chapters, which sound really good from what www has been posting. So we could have a second copy in circulation on this thread in due course.

arfishy · 08/06/2008 07:05

Happy birthday Cam and hope JJJr is feeling better soon. Your DD is gorgeous Saggar!

I am back from an overnighter and two birthday parties. Yesterday I stood next to the Brie for 3 hours chatting and only ate the crudites. So to reward my virtue I drank two glasses of Moet and an unrecorded amount of Oyster Bay. Only exercise was the lifting of wine glass(es) to my lips and a token walk to the bottom of the garden proffering a tray of cakes to the other mothers in an attempt to fatten them up. Ditto chocolate cake and caramel slices.

Went straight on to a birthday party today, at the dreaded bowling alley. I hadn't had breakfast or lunch and in desperation ordered a 'Barramundi Dog'. Predictably it was revolting slurry of dubious origins.

I will get the WiiFit out later and perhaps try my hand at the ski-ing. I will not be trying my hand at the weighing until I have undone the Barramundi Dog/Oyster Bay damage.

bamamama · 08/06/2008 11:36

Blimey - that was a busy Saturday.

WWW - had not thought through the consequenses of sausage muffins plus carbs however have now almost finished the batch so will just have to walk that bit further. I'm always positively drooling at your menu but I just think I'll have to be a N&Ier lurker. Much lol at the hair straighteners and much fear of ds eventually turning into a teenager.

Glad to hear you're feeling better on SW Marina and congratulations on your wedding anniversary! Going/doing anything nice?

Iota - ouch! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Saggars - We could mis-synchronise with each other - my cycle is anything between 24 and 33 days. Obviously fab when you're ttc Also, had to have a peek at your profile - your daughter is lovely. (will be making a note of 'illegal, immoral, annoys the neighbours' - ds may only be 2 but he already has that look in his eye. Also useful 10 yy thread title www?)

T/shell - home made ice cream sounds fabulous.

Cammelia - happy birthday!

Arfishy - hope you're enjoying the Queens Birthday weekend - was amazed that such a thing warranted a public holiday!

Not a bad weekend bootcamp wise for me, went for a run this evening and only had wine on Friday night. Rather at father at the moment though as dsis informed me that apparently my parents think our Oz jaunt is indulgent and generally bad for ds. grrrrr trying not to stew but ooh, how annoying!

Cammelia · 08/06/2008 14:36

Happy Wedding Anniversary Marina

Lovely weather here but am stuck inside testing dd (I never wanted to learn all that stuff again!!)

bamamama, civil servants in UK get an extra day's holiday for the Queen's Birthday

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 08/06/2008 17:56

Thank you for all the lovely dd-related comments I think we all make gorgeous children on this thread.

Sorry that you're a bit miffed at your parents bama - personally I can't think of anything better for young children than spending time in other countries. And what's wrong with being indulgent anyway?

Happy birthday to Cam for yesterday. And Happy Wedding Anniversary Marina

Lovely weather here too - I think I may have singed my shoulders watching the half marathon this morning. It was hot - poor buggers.

Last night's party - hmm what can I say? I was most impressed with myself for not only avoiding the home brew but only actually drinking two small glasses of wine all night. I think I've finally shaken off my 'need' for booze. Has only taken 30 years. Sadly I can't say the same for ds1. Hold your breath for more teenage woes; he didn't avoid the dreaded brew - against my advice - and was spectacularly sick during the night. I helped him get the worst of it up at 3 am and then dragged him out of bed at 9 with a bucket and a brush. Bless him - he looked a bit like this His room (which he shares with ds2) stinks despite his best efforts. Lessons Will Be Learned
