🎄 2025 Style and Beauty Advent Calendar Discussion ***SPOILERS*** THREAD 2
OvaHere · 10/08/2025 20:57

Christmaschatalready · 10/08/2025 20:45

@AprilLady it wouldn't be an Advent calendar thread without your annual spreadsheet! 😍

I also got the LF email. Does anyone know if you opt for the 1 month subscription, do you still get the calendar discount?

I signed up last year when I bought the advent. I bought it 16/09 and last years was £99 full price so it's gone up.

They definitely offered the discount for signing up to the beauty box but I can't remember if all options were available. I have a feeling it might have been a minimum term (maybe 3 months) but could be totally wrong about that.

I took out a 12 month which I've recently cancelled but it will run until October so I'm hopeful the calendar will be out by then and I can still use the discount.

SoloCat · 10/08/2025 20:59

My Harrods’ payment is showing now on my bank account, although still In process on Harrods website.

Christmaschatalready · 10/08/2025 21:01

@OvaHere thanks. Annoyingly it only gave the option to do 1 month or 12 months! I'm not sure I want or need a 12 month subscription. I hate blind boxes, I like to know what I'm getting. I would be fine with the box they are currently showing, so would sign up for the 1 month, especially if I could get the calendar discount

RainbowZebraWarrior · 10/08/2025 21:02

Thelifeofawife · 10/08/2025 19:10

Same for me. I’d never heard of Fenwick until the AC thread, but having looked at it I’m very tempted. A GWP would swing it for me

Fenwick is like an institution here in Newcastle. I was brought up going to see Fenwicks Christmas window as a nipper and it's still a major thing now, 50 years on. I used to love the fact that they sold designer clothes but also had a 'pocket money' section back in the day before Primark and Shein of cheaper clothing and it was my first port of call when I was a teen. We don't have Harrods, Selfridges or Harvey Nicks here, so the beauty counters and food hall were always magical to me.

Their AC is top of my list this year.

To be totally honest if the discount on the AC is only around £10 for signing up I'd just pay the full price.

Some of the boxes have been okay and I've had a few products I've liked but a lot have ended up being passed on or put on Vinted. The entire July box went on Vinted.

If my sub ran out before the calendar now I would just buy it full price. You do get the odd perk for being a subscriber but a box per month is just too much. The quarterly Liberty box is the best frequency.

Check the T&Cs because the 1 month I believe is a rolling subscription and it has to be cancelled by a certain date.

Whilst on the subject of subscriptions for discount. Anyone thinking of signing up to Glossybox to get their advent discount be wary. At least with LF you can just cancel via your account. With GB you have to speak to a chatbot then a CS advisor and it can be a total pain. Glossybox monthly box is not great imo, at least not for someone my age. They occasionally have decent edits but the box is not worth it.

OvaHere · 10/08/2025 21:25

Again on the subject of the Lookfantastic calendar, based on the comments on last years Beauty Detective site it looks like a few spoilers came out on 16/08 then the full reveal on 25/08. I wonder if it will be earlier this year?

Arrearing50 · 10/08/2025 21:32

I agree @OvaHere some of the LF boxes this last year there hasn’t been a single thing that wasn’t junk. In 12 months possibly 3 of the boxes were worth having.

Christmaschatalready · 10/08/2025 21:41

Ok I will skip the subscription. I have recently signed up for the liberty beauty drop, looking forward to getting that box

I genuinely look forward to the Liberty box so I'm sure you will enjoy that one. It's the only one I'm keeping.

clary · 10/08/2025 22:08

Oooh another reason to get the Liberty AC is that the box is very sellable – I have got £19 for one on eBay before where others sell for maybe £5. So that cuts the outlay a bit.

Thelifeofawife · 10/08/2025 22:26

@RainbowZebraWarrior That’s lovely! And definitely even more reason to get their AC, supporting a local brand.
My childhood was spent visiting Lewis’ at Christmas, I loved it

pinkchampagne1 · 10/08/2025 22:32

Oh my Harrods money appears to have come out of my account now too.

IlovePond · 10/08/2025 22:49

@OvaHere - completely agree on GB sub. I meant to sign up for one box only, but it defaulted to an annual. I tried to cancel on the day of purchase when I realised what had happened.

They ignored me for weeks.

The only reason I finally escaped was I had paid for the one box with PP so they couldn’t charge me for any more, (although they kept trying for quite a long time 🙀)

IlovePond · 10/08/2025 22:53

BTW: All this talk of a/cs put me in the mood to assemble this year’s DIY one for my friend, (as she liked the one I did last year for her).

I can’t believe I have put together and wrapped a Xmas advent calendar in early August.

Here’s a pic of one parcel, (sorry it’s not at the beach on a deckchair😹)

This is gorgeous! Can I ask where you got the stickers from please? I did a beauty advent for my sister last year and plan to do another, if I can find numbers to pop on that would be fab! Thanks

Evergreen21 · 11/08/2025 07:39

Last year lots of youtubers that unboxed the Glossybox advent calendar had a discount code for 10% so it wasn't that far off what subscribers paid. I'd look for that instead of getting a subscription, unless you want one of course, as they aren't as straightforward as they should be to get out of.

Roundaboot · 11/08/2025 07:40

TragicMuse · 10/08/2025 12:07

Degusta is up for pre-order
https://www.degustabox.com/en/register/eb/advent-25?ref=

And it looks like they have a £6 off thing if you subscribe to emails

Having had Degustabox for the past 5 years, I'm going to be skipping it this time as the quality has really deteriorated, IMO. Last year's was quite rubbish, with all the tiny sizes. I wish they'd follow the beauty calendars and advertise the contents!

JoRaRaRa · 11/08/2025 07:40

Is anyone considering the Elle advent calendar? I'm thinking of maybe getting it alongside the Harrods one (depending on what the Look Fantastic one is like). I'm going to do my spreadsheet review today, but I think it's good value and contains a lot of skincare products 😊

I like the Elle one but probably not. I'm hoping I will really like SpaceNK and Lookafantastic and those will be my two. I'm pinning a lot on 2 calendars that have had no reveals as yet. 😂

Oh I thought they did advertise the contents (at some point) I signed up to get the £6 off yesterday and screenshotted the box which I'm assuming had some 'spoilers' showing underneath the sign up. It didn't look like last year's stuff AFAIK.

Roundaboot · 11/08/2025 08:01

@RainbowZebraWarrior TBH, I can't remember if they've done spoilers in previous years but I've definitely not known about full contents until I receive the actual calendar. The stuff in that spoiler actually looks quite good!

Puravida23 · 11/08/2025 08:05

I really like Elle this year and have considered it. They didn't do one last year but in previous years they have consistently reduced the price of it at some point . They did a strange subscription thing in 2023 where you got the advent free when you subscribed for the magazine the subscription price being basically the price of an advent which was a bit weird. This year they have front loaded a discount so it may be more popular and may sell out before any more discounts. But I think I may put this in my gamble pile and if it reduces to around £100 get it
