I wonder how much time the royals spend travelling? Balmoral to York isn't exactly a short hop, unless you helicopter it, I guess! I always find travelling really tiring (though tbf I'm usually in cattle class Grin), it must take it's toll on them.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 21/08/2025 23:11

First class or chauffeured travel to a destination sounds ok to me! And they usually stay at Balmoral for several weeks so they have plenty of time to recover from the trip.

One of my mother's favourite stories was 'When I met the Queen'. It would have been in the 50's and she was looking at gloves in Harrods when a very smart and respectful woman approached her and enquired ('asked' is not the right word) whether she would be offended if she asked her to step aside so 'a very important person' could take her place at the counter? Intrigued, my mum backed away and was graciously nodded at by the late Queen who took her place, choosing 2 pairs of fine leather gloves which her L-in-W accepted gracefully (no payment, obviously) and then both swept away. My mum endeavoured to buy a similar pair but the assistant denied any such transaction! The nodding and the eye contact became embellished by her over the years and it stayed a treasured memory.
(A derail but just comes under Royal Style?!)

Great story @Lifestooshort71!

Love that blue evening dress. Normally Queen Jetsun’s traditional outfits steal the show as they are so bright and different to western dress but the blue outfit holds its’ own entirely.

This is an interesting article about the origins of the pink diamond in the late Queen’s diamond flower brooch. I was amused to read that Queen Mary was most put out when
it was gifted to the then Princess Elizabeth 😆See here

"Where's mine?" 😄
Got to love Mary of Teck!
Thanks, @smilesy , that's a really interesting article.

Lovely explanation. I had a compliment today on my pink stone pendant. Kunzite rather than a rare diamond though 😂

Maireas · 22/08/2025 17:44

I've not heard of kunzite before, @justasking111 . Very pretty.

Oh I have a Kunzite pendant too @justasking111
DH bought it for me from SA.
I would have preferred a nice big diamond 😂

Not normally a fan of a cutaway dress as imho they can look a bit um...but she looks fabulous in that dress. Same goes for the colour - not normally a fan of that colour, but it really suits her.

Maireas · 22/08/2025 22:44

Nice touch with the gold buckle detail matching the bracelets.

7 Fashion Lessons We Can Learn From Princess Anne - From Embracing The Equestrian To Statement Sunglasses https://share.google/uZRTh787Ym7by1ev6
Fashion lessons from Princess Anne?
Unlikely, but according to this, she's been ahead of the trends.....

The biggest lesson from Princess Anne is to never throw anything away because in 40 years they will be back in fashion.

In reference the to that amazing pink diamond and Queen Mary, something like: "Where's mine!? We all want diamonds!" Grin

TwerkingRoyalNotWorkingRoyal · 24/08/2025 09:30

Mary has been out and about in a rather striking suit.

I like it.

Ok, I'm going to say Mary's suit is interesting. I don't think it works particularly well, though, a mixture of the cut and the pattern.

Um as a cushion cover yes

TwerkingRoyalNotWorkingRoyal · 24/08/2025 09:42

Heh. Yes it'll be a marmite one for sure! I like interesting things, don't mind a bit of eccentricity in fashion.

Yes, I like to see people try different looks, it's good to go out of your comfort zone. However, in this instance I don't think it works. I wonder if the pattern in a stronger combination of colours would look better?

OP posts:
Eaumyword · 24/08/2025 10:22

Oh crumbs, Mary!
Think the jacket would have looked stunning with plain trousers.
Only Max can get away with bonkers separates, as she wears clothes with such aplomb!

TwerkingRoyalNotWorkingRoyal · 24/08/2025 10:27

I don't know...again, I think the fact that it's against type makes it much more interesting; I like the unexpected even if it doesn't always work. Personally I think the end result looks good enough/is inoffensive enough that it can be seen as a success. But I value out of the ordinary so I automatically give it extra points as long as it's not stupidly out there.
