Are these shoes back in fashion?

I’m seeing loads of people wearing them but they still look like old people’s shoes to me! They look super comfy though so may invest in a pair.

Mine 'fart' sometimes, quite embarrassing really.

Ha, yes mine too

Excellentvintage · 05/07/2025 15:23

Birkenstocks are comfy but I prefer my Tevas -they are really comfy

Those are the shoes of old men and maths teachers

Em, what about maths teachers, you mean on trend I hope😂

Yes they are comfortable. You could have a look at the Clark’s summer range of flat sandals, more feminine if you’re looking for that. Some are in the sale too.

Wishingoverthere · 05/07/2025 22:04

I walked around guernsey in mine. 38k steps every day for quite a few days in the summer last year. Very comfortable although they come with a warning…don’t spend all day every day in them. I ended up with feet like Frodo and spent a couple of weeks retraining my hooves to accept anything remotely civil for work. Even so, I always 😉gratefully step into them after work each day. I also got some leather lookalikes from tkmaxx which were fab and about £25.00

Sad tattoo folk? What on earth is that supposed to mean?

Sounds like someone who thinks they're better than others.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 06/07/2025 09:15

Why are people buying new ones every year? They last years, worn all day every summer.

Arizonas and can run in them. They do need wearing in, but once they're moulded, they're a perfect fit.

EssentialDecluttering · 06/07/2025 23:28

I buy a new pair each year because I like having them in a choice of colours, the oldest ones then get discarded about once a year too.

OntheBorder1 · 07/07/2025 01:37

Utterlyconfusednow · 03/07/2025 19:16

Are these comfortable for longish walks?

Not in my experience, awful things. I sold mine.

GoldDuster · 07/07/2025 01:45

Falingoth · 03/07/2025 19:53

Never understood the appeal personally. They're very overpriced, for a start.
I've got some Clarks sandals which have lasted me years and years, and they were way cheaper.

Well if you bought the Clarks sandals years and years ago that stands to reason. BIrkenstocks have gone up in price, so has everything, but quality wise they're certainly not the same as they were 20 years ago.

Birkenstock or a different brand? Seems a waste.

EssentialDecluttering · 07/07/2025 05:49

Why is it a waste? They only go once they are falling to pieces. They are expensive but last years, cost per wear is low but I buy them in sales.

Thanks. I’ve checked them out and they aren’t for me, too flat looking.

DesperatelySeekingHelp · 07/07/2025 06:54

I find you have to wear them in for couple days but then really comfy.

VenusClapTrap · 07/07/2025 07:12

My 13yo ds kept pinching mine, so I bought him some fakes. Oh my goodness his are so much more comfortable! I pinch his now.

TheChosenTwo · 07/07/2025 15:48

They are monstrously ugly but I have a pair in black 😂 I only wear them on holiday so I know no one I know will see me in them and even though I am chronically unfashionable even I can’t make peace with how they look on my feet!
But they are comfortable and fit well and do make my dodgy back problems disappear when I’m wearing them!

Oh see now my interest has been piqued again. Please tell me how they help your back.

And are they shaped similar to the Dr. Scholl sandals inside?

TheChosenTwo · 07/07/2025 16:13

@Utterlyconfusednow im not really sure I’ll be able to describe how they help my back pain but essentially i slipped 2 discs 7/8 years ago and have had pain in the area ever since even though the discs have gone back to where they should have been.
I feel like the birks tip my hips and therefore my back into just the right angle for the pain to go away. My day to day pain is akin to a pinching sensation. And they have a hard sole not spongy and bouncy so everything stays in just the right position to make the pain just melt away.
i don’t know about the dr scholl
sandals as I don’t have them, sorry!

Thank you. Dr. Scholl have the instep shaped in them, so not flat, it was aeons ago that I wore them though. Glad they’ve helped you.

I embrace the vileness

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 08/07/2025 06:35

Not exactly a sexy or good look. I think style and groovyness died a painful death decades ago.

I am an old person brought up as a fshion mad teenager in the Sixties. Who used to go mental to get the latest fashion

Birkenstock remind me a bit of those awful Dr Scholl Sandals.

Hey, but if they are on trend and good for your feet . What does that matter?

Enjoy!!!

I love them and have a variety of boston tokio and kyoto. Wear them all year round. Not too arsed about fashion.

GirlPolo · 08/07/2025 11:49

I have fitflops too and they’re fab but v casual, wouldn’t really wear them to any occasion.

There are lots of different styles of fit flops from formal to casual as well as boots & trainers.
