I’m seeing loads of people wearing them but they still look like old people’s shoes to me! They look super comfy though so may invest in a pair.

They were never out of fashion among the champagne socialists

Idontjetwashthefucker · 04/07/2025 13:38

I can't get on with them at all, tried a few different types and I just dont find them comfy...but then I love Fitflops and have 4 pairs of Remi, with and without back straps. Like walking on air

Very expensive slippers! 😂

Well… I don’t buy the Birkenstock brand, years ago I had a Scholl pair that lasted 10 years plus.

But seriously, I’d not leave the house in these.

Biffsboys · 04/07/2025 18:18

I’ve never liked the look of Birkenstocks until I found the siena I love them .

independentfriend · 04/07/2025 18:20

I wouldn't go for a long walk in anything without a heel strap, but fortunately there are some Birkenstocks with heel straps. I'm alternating between a pair of New Balance sandals and a pair of Birkenstocks this summer, both are comfortable for the distances I want to walk. I don't know how they'd do for proper hiking on uneven ground - probably not badly but they're not specialist walking sandals.

Are they comfortable longish walks?

I find them so uncomfortable, I’ve got quite flat feet and the bumps on them feel horrible on the soles of my feet. I think they’re supposed to mould a bit to your feet but I couldn’t bear wearing them for long enough.

MoonWoman69 · 04/07/2025 18:30

I've had mine years and I love them! Mine are the same colour and style as the pic you posted, but have toe posts and they are so comfy!

Blablibladirladada · 04/07/2025 18:30

You are confused with the set socks/these kinda shoes and these shoes. Without the socks, they are perfectly good and never went out of vogue.

EssentialDecluttering · 04/07/2025 18:30

I live in these, Mayari and Gizeh plus Boston clogs. I have wide feet and high arches and they are perfect for me. They might be expensive but they last several years and cost per wear is therefore tiny. I can walk all day in them and stand all day at work. They were a lifesaver when I developed plantar fasciitis, only used to wear them in summer before that but with the clogs I wear them all year round now.

Got them!

They look lovely.

also got nail polish envy - which one is it because I feel I need it in my life!

Sureitwont · 04/07/2025 18:34

I don’t like the natural colour sole ones personally, but I recently bought this pair and they seem to go with everything

Pretty comfy too

I find them too heavy now I m a bit older and less strong..

Bitchesbelike · 04/07/2025 18:41

I had no idea they went out of fashion! I’ve been wearing them every summer for almost 20 years

EdisinBurgh · 04/07/2025 18:46

I’ve been wearing them for decades. In fact at least one pair is decades old.

High quality and made to last, so comfy especially for wide feet, and very much above the fickle seasons of fashion.

Some colours more stylish than others though.

They didn’t. It’s just some posters are weird 🤷‍♀️

Mabiscuit · 04/07/2025 18:49

I find the ones I have for years too heavy and uncomfortable. I've wide feet so I should like them!

PaxAeterna · 04/07/2025 18:51

They never really go out of fashion. But they are very much “in” at the moment. Too wide for me!

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 04/07/2025 18:56

Right up there with crocs 😂

Hilarious… they suit all.

Never understood the appeal personally. They're very overpriced, for a start.
I've got some Clarks sandals which have lasted me years and years, and they were way cheaper.

They’re incredibly comfortable. Once you’ve worn them in, they feel like they were made specifically for you. I personally prefer the single strap ones though.

Overtheatlantic · 03/07/2025 19:20

Birkenstocks will never go out of fashion because they will never be in fashion. They are on their own level in terms of style and comfort.

Absolutely. I've been wearing them for 35 years.

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 04/07/2025 19:25

Yes they’ve always been worn but they’ve definitely made a come back with ‘the trendy’ in the last few years. A lot of the school mums wear them, along with the bostons, usually in camel/brown.

Nanof8 · 04/07/2025 19:29

My 15 year-old son wears them all the time.

CapaciousHag · 03/07/2025 11:03

Where’ve you been, @GirlPolo? Birkenstocks have been a perennial favourite for as long as I can remember. They don’t need to be in or out of fashion, it makes no difference.

(People have found a difference in quality recently.)

It’s a class thing - the middle class have worn them for years. The Botox & painted eyebrows folk don’t. The sad tattoo folk usually don’t wear them either.
If you are buying them, don’t buy imitation. They will last for ever and a decent cobbler can repair them. Enjoy x
