So, I have found a dress, a FABULOUS dress for my MOB outfit.
Only its Black, black with pearls, its gorgeous.
DD LOVES it and says yes go for it, totally the vibe of the wedding, so glam, so my style/type of dress i like to wear only fancied up a bit.
I said, but black, is that ok? DD say yes its her wedding, she says yes so thats that in her mind.
But im a bit, i dunno, is black strange?

or is that a load of shite.

Wear the dress! If DD is the bride and she’s happy, nobody else’s opinion matters.

What would you rather do? Feel fabulous on the day and happy every time you look at the photos - or stop Second Cousin Muriel tutting at you wearing black?

Say no to Muriel and wear the frock!

DiamondThrone · 05/06/2025 15:43

Well, it's her wedding, and if she honestly likes it, then wear it!

dustygrey · 05/06/2025 15:45

It's beautiful, DD likes it - Go for it!

Lavender14 · 05/06/2025 15:47

That's gorgeous! I would ask her how it'll fit in with family pictures and the colour scheme she's chosen and if she's still happy then absolutely go for it.

Shes in the most luxurious mikado ivory gown, its gorgeous and the bridesmaids are a v v dark mulbury/cabernet. When i showed her the dress she said OMG that is divine, thats the vibe buy it.
Shes happy with it, its me thats overthinking.

Go for it - and makesure you enjoy wearing it.

Any ideas yet how you plan to accessorize? Is it an autumn/winter wedding?

SummertimeFeelingFine · 05/06/2025 16:59

If the bride is happy then all's good! It's a fantastic dress; wear it and feel fabulous.

Coffeeishot · 05/06/2025 17:02

If you like it and she likes it then it is fine, is it mainly because its black you feel weird about it? Are you wearing a hat/fascinator can you put a bit of colour in that

Raquelos · 05/06/2025 17:02

Oh, 100% yes, that is a fabulous dress. The pearls tip it into wedding-appropriate, even if you think black is an issue IMO. Enjoy wearing it.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/06/2025 17:14

Wowsers, now that’s an awesome dress! Enjoy.

Doteycat · 05/06/2025 17:28

ok thank you, the positive response has helped ease my concern.,
Yes my main worry was just that it was black and was it appropriate for MOB to wear.
September london wedding. Considering red shoes maybe or burgundy to tie in with BMs? Id like a hat but wld a big black one v very Joan Collins at a funeral 😄

I think it's beautiful. And it's so lovely that you and your DD are obviously so close. That's what MOB should be, a celebration for both of you, not just in the background, looking sedate. Enjoy your wonderful day with your wonderful daughter xx

POTC · 05/06/2025 17:53

@Doteycat have you ordered from them before? Reviews don't seem to be very good so be cautious

Oceangrey · 05/06/2025 17:54

Wow it's stunning you should absolutely wear it.

yadayadi · 05/06/2025 18:00

Gorgeous dress but don't go for the Joan collins hat. The dress speaks for itself. Simple accessories. Have a wonderful day x

I saw that, but they have that brand in a dept store in my city, so im going to go in there and suss it out. Its a high end store so maybe they might order it in for me.

It's lovely. You love it. Your DD loves it. Literally nothing else matters!

Moveoverdarlin · 05/06/2025 18:07

Love it. You’ll look absolutely knock out.

I agree. I wouldn’t go big with a hat.

I do think a different colour shoes is a great idea though.

ApolloandDaphne · 05/06/2025 18:11

I must be an outlier because I think it is hideous. Definitely doesn't look like £600 worth of dress to me. I'm not suggesting you wear something old school and frumpy but that dress doesn't say luxurious and glamorous to me.

Joan Collins at a FUNERAL that's not dramatic at all 😀

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 05/06/2025 18:23

So I do like it and its very glamorous but it reads as a very young dress to me. It has a prom vibe (albeit a very high end one). That may not bother you in the slightest and always go with what you love.
