So, I have found a dress, a FABULOUS dress for my MOB outfit.
Only its Black, black with pearls, its gorgeous.
DD LOVES it and says yes go for it, totally the vibe of the wedding, so glam, so my style/type of dress i like to wear only fancied up a bit.
I said, but black, is that ok? DD say yes its her wedding, she says yes so thats that in her mind.
But im a bit, i dunno, is black strange?

or is that a load of shite.

Love it, wear it!
Depending on your hair colour / style, could you wear a special hair accessory with pearls?

Vitrolinsanity · 05/06/2025 18:26

LOVE.IT!

Im a JC Dynasty nut, and would totally go mental with the hat.

When my DS gets married I intend that my hat will be so outrageously huge it will need Ushers to hold the brim.

So I do like it and its very glamorous but it reads as a very young dress to me. It has a prom vibe (albeit a very high end one). That may not bother you in the slightest and always go with what you love.

I am a young mum sure if anyone asks i was a child bride

Stunning - it sounds like there’s a slight gothic vibe colour wise so that would be perfect. Agree with no hat but flowers/pearls/jewels in hair, or something feathery.

Robotnik · 05/06/2025 18:43

I think it looks like a fabulous dress for a bride, but black.

If you'd posted the same dress saying you wanted to wear something to make a sly negative statement on the wedding in the most glam, dramatic way possible, I would agree that this would do the trick.

Shes in the most luxurious mikado ivory gown, its gorgeous and the bridesmaids are a v v dark mulbury/cabernet. When i showed her the dress she said OMG that is divine, thats the vibe buy it.
Shes happy with it, its me thats overthinking.
for a change...........

I would say the bridesmaids arent in pastels it sounds perfect

Doteycat · 05/06/2025 18:58

The wedding is not goth but think lots of candles, phantom of the opera style flowers, tudoresque wedding dress, banquet tables kind of set up.
Church is v v v old england.
Ok i think it would work and DD loves it. Ill check in my dept store tmro.

That looks like an evening dress to me

Mmmkaay · 05/06/2025 19:10

A headpiece like this would look fabulous. I think it's an unusual and beautiful dress.

Sassybooklover · 05/06/2025 19:11

I love the dress. Your daughter loves the dress, you love it, so wear it! There's not so much stigma of wearing black these days, to a wedding.

It's gorgeous. You can add colour with shoes, bag, a wrap or cropped jacket.

HatesHorsesLovesShein · 05/06/2025 19:14

I bet loads of the men will be wearing black. Or very, very dark grey if the King is going as apparently he doesn’t wear black.

Lilactimes · 05/06/2025 19:15

I really love that dress it is stunning.
and agree pearl headpiece type thing in hair tied up loosely would look amazing.
Love the sound of the wedding - sounds incredible!

What fabric is it? I can't see it on the link.

tiredoflondonbutnotlife · 05/06/2025 19:25

The dress is fabulous. To make it more joyful, rather than matching with the bridesmaids, I’d opt for red, pink or yellow accessories.

Fabliss OP, love it.

BejewelledCat · 05/06/2025 19:47

I wore a black dress as MOB to my youngest daughter's wedding. She was happy with it, said I could wear whatever I was comfortable in as long as it wasn't jeans. So if you like it and your daughter approves, go for it.

SarahAndQuack · 05/06/2025 19:53

Can you wear a dark mulberry accent somewhere, if you wanted to tie it in?

I think the most important thing is that you and your DD love it - obviously!

Vivienne1000 · 05/06/2025 19:54

No one else’s opinion should matter. Just your daughter and yourself.
