Veronique Gabai Noire de Mai today. It's one from the last Liberty perfume edit (I think!). Smoky oriental rose, jolly nice but not nearly interesting enough to warrant a FB, especially not at £220!

Talking of Liberty, I have a few quid in Beauty Drop vouchers burning a hole and am quite tempted by the Diptyque Essences set. Cute little 10ml bottles! Has anyone tried any of the scents? I'm a fan of Diptyque perfumes generally but it would be good to get a recommendation from the MN perfumistas!

AprilLady · 07/03/2025 11:34

@fromthevault As someone who generally rates Diptyque - wearing L’Ombre Dans L’Eau today - I’ve been eyeing that Diptyque set for a while. I did test the scents in store a little while back, and liked most of them. I have been waiting for a good Liberty GWP before purchasing, but sadly the most recent one just didn’t feel worthwhile.

IDontHateRainbows · 07/03/2025 12:30

I got the diptyque set and didn't rate it I'm afraid - it went back (to Space NK who accept open/tested returns). Probably just me but it wasn't to my liking, too florally and i[m more a woody/amber/vanilla/spicy scent girl

4160T Sexiest Scent today, nice and cheerful for a warm sunny day!

IDontHateRainbows · 07/03/2025 21:02

Queen of the night is growing on me, not getting vanilla but loads of saffron, I love saffron.

Continuing in the saffrony vein, matiere premiere crystal saffron today. Nearly out of the sample. Like many perfumes from this house I wasn't sure about it at first but there is something addictive about it. No way can I afford the full bottle though.

Floral Street Black Lotus. Packs a punch!

MiaN · 08/03/2025 14:25

Sol De Janeiro Rio Radiance for me today.

IDontHateRainbows · 09/03/2025 10:06

Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia - I'm not usually a rose fan but this is quite nice - rose and sea salt.

Gypsy water. That's another vanilla that work all year round for me. I have few samples and few similar perfumes but at some point I am likely to get a bottle.

BettyBardMacDonald · 09/03/2025 10:39

L'Occitane Herbae is nice and springy

Will you get the grand discovery kit if you do? It means the kit is only £30 if you were planning on buying a fb anyway.

I'm considering getting one at some point if finances allow.

Amouage Sunshine Man today, cheerful and bright citrus for the glorious weather. I tried the women's version recently and it's not nearly as nice, to my nose. But they've discontinued the men's and kept the women's 🤔

MiaN · 09/03/2025 19:14

I won't. I already had the grand set. I prefer discount

CharlotteCChapel · 09/03/2025 19:27

JLo one for me DGS liked it so much he wanted a squirt

OvaHere · 09/03/2025 19:33

Prada Paradoxe today. This is one of the 3 perfumes I got at Christmas but the one I've worn least. It's probably only the 2nd time I've worn it. It's nice but not really a favourite. I do need to use it more though just so it's not a wasted gift.

MiaN · 10/03/2025 06:53

Re the grand kit - it's great but once I have gone through it I feel ok without. SpaceNK often does discounts that include byredo - whenever I get to it I will use that. however I have 20ml Colette Tocca, 30ml Gold Commodity and 3 2ml samples - it will be at least year before I invest in bottle, I don't go through perfumes so quick.

I am doing well this year with not overbuying, apart from that one Zara blip that won't happen again no impulse purchases. Looking forward for bit of a spree on my trip!

I sold most of the grand discovery kit last year when I had it (I was unemployed so couldn't really afford the 180) but that means I didn't get to try many of the samples, now that ebay have stopped letting people sell the 2ml byredos this means I'd be forced to work my way through the set -no bad thing!
As a house I have slightly gone off byredo, not gone off it so much as got interested in other brands/houses more. So maybe I'll leave getting the set.

Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder today - I'm in the mood for a sweet, uplifting vanilla. Used the Zara Vanilla Immortalle which is a dupe but not as long lasting, as a body spray and a bit of the VP on top.

I'm impressed with the lack of buying - I need to take a leaf out of your book as I really do feel a bit addicted sometimes and I'm finding it hard to shift some of the boxes and sets I've bought on ebay - the big bottles in particular are slow to go. I definitely think it's replaced food for me since I've been on weight loss jabs - a well known phenomenon apparently!

Bit of a lurker and love dipping into these threads. Please can I ask if anyone can recommend something with night blooming jasmine notes? I absolutely loved Givenchy l’interdit millesmine but it’s discontinued. The original just doesn’t do it for me. I’m not a fan of dupes as I’ve never discovered one that replaces an original of anything I love . I really miss the givenchy. Currently alternating between various Jo malones while I crave a hit of jasmine . Thank you all

fromthevault · 10/03/2025 13:06

@Footnoteintime Fragrantica has these suggestions for perfumes with night blooming jasmine notes. Some of them are a bit obscure but you might be able to try the Gucci or Marc Jacobs somewhere?

SOTD is Kenzo Jungle L'elephant which always veers sweet rather than spicy on me, but it's not bad.

IDontHateRainbows · 10/03/2025 16:51

SOT evening/afternoon is another matiere premiere, think it's safe to say this is my fave house right now! I'm wearing Bois D'ebene which is a lovely deep smokey wood. I don't know how this perfumer does it but I like a lot of his stuff.

MiaN · 10/03/2025 17:08

I tried Sisley L'Eau Revee d'Hubert - huh, it's so minty. It's like upscale version of vapo rub. I will transition it to bathroom scent. It's not a bad scent as such, just absolutely not something I would like to smell like!

Magpiecomplex · 10/03/2025 17:36

Penhaligons The Dandy today, continuing the alcoholic theme. This is supposed to smell like a whisky cocktail. I get the whisky, but I wouldn't want to drink something that smells like this!

Shiny new thread for those of us obsessed with perfume, or who aren't obsessed but just like wearing it.

I'm on the Byredo Gypsy Water this morning which I got in the box set of 3 minis. Lovely fresh citrussy scent which is a welcome change from the heavy vanilla and smoky spicy scents I've been into over the previous months. I am very seasonal with my perfumes so this is hopefully taking me in the direction of a long awaited spring. Let's see how long it lasts as Byredo are not known for their staying power.

What was your smoky spicy scent? I like the sound of that.
