Generous sample from Cult Beauty edit. White flowers with a hint of citrus and dab of vanilla. I like it a lot, but it doesn’t last and the sillage is poor. Nice for the summer.

MiaN · 05/05/2025 17:43

Finally got to try Gritty Duchessa - not for me, the cherry is very short lives and it turns to leathery and not in way I enjoy. I also tried Valaya exclusive PDM and really like it, it does not have this strong artificial scent I am getting in the original

IDontHateRainbows · 05/05/2025 19:00

Etat libre nostos today, a strong rose oud that's a real grower

Also tried commodity milk from the cult beauty kit, it's a lovely Cosy bedtime scent, getting a lot of wood and spice, but although perfectly nice not one I can see myself falling in love with

This is one of my favorites from this house. I didn't get on with any of them massively though. Witchy woo I wanted, tried to like but it feels like there's too much going on.

@IDontHateRainbows
It’s lovely, and benefitted from a top up after a couple of hours. Got a nice skin scent now.

Shame about Duchessa; I really like the description on Fragrantica and would love to try it. Where did you get your sample?

Tom Ford? I tested that recently and liked it a lot, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much.

Yes, Tom Ford. Agreed, they are really expensive! I’m enjoying my decant but I wouldn’t buy a full bottle. It smells like a Christmas / thanksgiving kinda scent, very festive. Unisex but probably leans a tad to the masculine side.

Bal d’Afrique today - an easy reach.

Zoetrope1 · 06/05/2025 03:04

@IDontHateRainbows I feel the same way about commodity milk. Nice enough but nothing special.

IDontHateRainbows · 06/05/2025 08:05

My perfumista samples are due to be delivered today so I'll post a review/ update. Can't wait!!

In store Harvey Nichol's. Perfume is so personal, you may love it

Tocca Stella for me today

Gettingbysomehow · 06/05/2025 08:47

Vogue perfume from Amazon £5. And before you shoot me it's lovely. I'm very fussy about perfumes, I can't stand anything that smells cheap.
This one is a Chanel-a-like. It's subtle not strong and smells gorgeous. My DIL told me about it.
Everyone says your perfume is lovely what is it and assume it's expensive.
Great for everyday.

Ha, I'm just awaiting my delivery of Commodity Milk Expressive! I kind of fell in love with it last week whilst away and ordered it when I got home. I think the expressive is a little stronger with more vanilla and wood than the 'standard' though. I also got Juice (love a rhubarb scent) and Gold. We'll see how I get on with those two as I've not tried them before.

SOTD is Maison Matine Lost in Translation which is a rather soothing woody leather.

I thought expressive is the standard /medium one though - there are three levels, personal expressive and bold. I haven't tried personal but the bold milk one gave me an awful headache every time I tried it so I must have reacted to something. Fortunately the expressive one doesn't.

Samples finally arrived first on is Nasumatto Black Afgano - it is quite similar to my beloved Mumbai Noise, the same smoky, oudy but slightly sweet effect. I don't think it quite tops Mumbai Noise though but is a very good runner up.

Next up is DS and Durga Deep Dark Vanilla. I'm glad I only got a small sample of this as I'm not a fan. It smells slightly like the bottom of a pet cage to my nose- dank, animalic - no vanilla and definitely no sweetness. DS and Durga can be truly innovative and I've enjoyed a few of their scents a lot - but I guess you can't like everything particulary with an arty, experimental brand - so this one is a no .

I'll let these settle in a bit before trying the other two, vanilla diorama and kayali vanilla oud later.

4160T Burnt Cedar Rainbow Doves today, a quietly confident scent for a job interview!

paristotokyo · 06/05/2025 15:21

Today was Ouai st Bart’s body mist which also lasted about 5 seconds in the very hot climate. Which is weird. I might not be spraying enough though as im
usually a very light sprayer. Will test out an edp tomorrow to see how it fares

Good luck with your interview (or rather, I hope it went well, as you've probably already had it.)

I accidentally bought a dupe for Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine when I was browsing in Aldi.

It is beyond gorgeous, I can't wait to hit summer smelling of verdant, heady bouquets!

And only 6.99 😊

Can you remember the name?

HolidayHattie · 06/05/2025 17:50

I still have the lurgy, so still can't try any new samples.. I have to go out shortly, so Ange ou Demon: Le Secret seems a safe choice.

Octopusespunchforfun · 06/05/2025 18:23

I layered ‘Carolina Herrera - Good girl’ and ‘Lancôme - La Nuit Trésor’ today and the little wafts I was getting were heavenly!

IDontHateRainbows · 06/05/2025 19:12

Tried the other 2 samples. Kayali vanilla oud was OK but sweet in a candy floss way and not terribly oudy, very different to what I imagined. Alright but not a keeper.

Saved the best til last, vanilla diorama. It's a boozy, deep vanilla probably more suited to winter. Reminds me of bdk velvet tonka, and lush turmeric latte.

Moral of the story, perfumes with vanilla in the name can smell completely and utterly different. Although I do think the DS Durga one is misleading in the extreme heavy patchouli to start very little vanilla.

SOTD santal 33 layered with goldfield & banks ingenious ginger. It’s a surprisingly delicious combo - kind of smells like a lemonade spider (lemonade and icecream). Really enjoying it!

Zoetrope1 · 07/05/2025 00:47

@IDontHateRainbows vanilla diorama sounds amazing!

It just goes to show how personal scent is!! Glad you like it 😊 I think I just prefer my vanillas to be slightly spicy, like Ani. Of the commodity range I’d like to try moss and book.

MiaN · 07/05/2025 08:17

BDK bdk bouquet de hongrie. I really like it but as I said before I have chanel chance eau tandre and they are too similar to own both.

I have commodity moss, it's the only one I liked from the range when I sampled it. My only problem with it is longevity, like many other citruses it does not last long.
