I was lucky enough to get the John Lewis Mother’s Day beauty box today.
A complete surprise from my teens, delighted with it!
The perfumes in it are YSL Libre and Parfums de Marly Valaya.
I can barely smell the Valaya but I like the Libre…fresh and strong.

Happy mothers day to those who celebrate 💐
Soyd avon attraction. This was a recommendation a long time ago from @missbattleaxeand I haven't worn it for a while.

potplantsinparadise · 30/03/2025 12:57

@HighLineGal Maybe try with some of the skin musk scents? Musky, but much lighter and cling to you. Glossier 'You' is the obvious one, also Le Labo 'Another 13', DS & Durga 'I Don't Know What', and Phlur 'Missing Person' (though this one might not last so long).

Thanks so much! Going to order a sample of all of those!

HighLineGal · 30/03/2025 17:49

Thanks so much @IDontHateRainbows I clearly have some work to do! What’s your
current fave scent?

I love reading about perfumes! I’m wearing Victoria Beckham’s San Ysidro Drive. It’s so
summery but unisex. I love it. Treated myself after a tough year.

I’ve also got Tom Ford Velvet Orchid which has lasted for ages.

I guess both of these are quite heavy, right? I’d love to find something a bit lighter but I am always so overwhelmed by the choices out there.

I lean more to Cherry and musky type scents. Wouldn’t it be great if someone came to our homes and offered a service to explore different scents!

Victoria Beckham’s San Ysidro Drive is mainly rose oud to my nose - beautifully blended but very strong and fall winter scent to me as it will be too strong for heat. I find the yellow bottle is really misleading but it smells expensive and smooth - it is really well made. Have you tried her Portofino perfume?

I think BDK sample set may appeal. The perfumer that did San Ysidro Drive is Jerome Epinette - have a look at his creations on Fragrantica, and read few notes & reviews to see if something appeals.

Oh god there are so many! I'm loving anything by matiere premiere, especially the santal austral, but also vanilla powder and parisian musc. Seem to keep returning to this house, so would recommend checking it out if you want to explore new avenues. They do a decent discovery kit of 9 x 2ml, think harvey Nick's and selfridges stock it, or you can it direct from the house.

A friend recently gave me a sample of Vanilla Powder and wow it's so nice. Not at all what I was expecting. So now I have something else I'm coveting.

Zoetrope1 · 31/03/2025 01:04

I’ve been wearing Liberty Tudor the past few days. I think it came in the advent calendar a few years ago. I really didn’t like it until now, funny how tastes change and perfumes can smell differently depending on season / climate etc.

Its a warm, spicy sandalwood with amber and ginger and nutmeg in the opening for a fresh zing

IDontHateRainbows · 31/03/2025 12:31

Back on the Mumbai Noise today - i really like this spicy, smoky scent. If I wear it too often I go noseblind to it, so I try to use it only occasionally.

Also tried etat libre d'oranges Nostos which was in the Harrods fragrance calendar - I quite like it, have listed it on ebay (as sprayed once) and will see if I get any takers but if not, I'll happily adopt it for myself. It has rose in, and i'm not normally a rose fan, but also some oud and warm spicy vanillary notes, which I like, so I'm tempted to give it a chance.

4160T Hammersmith Tea & Biscuits today. I do love this. It's so so comforting and unique, doesn't smell like anything else I own.

I have always felt that 4160T have a bit of an issue in that for such a small house they have a huge catalogue, and it sometimes seems as if they could do with a bit more of a 'quality not quantity' ethos. But, when they get it right they really do produce some absolute crackers.

paristotokyo · 31/03/2025 13:49

My ant-less replacement of Miami Nectar arrived so that’s sotd 😃 will use the other ant infested one as a room fragrance I think! I also purchased Ouai st Bart’s after your recommendation @MiaNso looking forward to picking that up! JL had a great sale on it and they randomly give me £10 off beauty so it was a bargain 😍

Glad to hear they replaced it. I enjoyed the Miami Nectar, I've always been a fan of pina coladas and in fact had 2 whilst out on Friday night - at £11 a pop they are not cheap so maybe I can get high off sniffing the perfume version instead!

I've rediscovered Sana Jardin Sandlewood temple. I've always struggled to like most Sana Jardin - but sandalwood temple is nice, sweet but not cloying. The only other one I like from them is vanilla nomad, and it's one that I keep smelling to see why I like it if that makes any sense.

Office day today, so I hope my colleagues are not overwhelmed by perfume, but I strategically bought in some samples to give out a few weeks ago to get them on side.

I have on another cheapie. 4711 but not the original one. This one has orange blossom n it. Nice! Just trying for something that is good for Spring/Summer and this fits.

I keep poking around their website as I love the local (to me) story and the rainbow wrapping. But the choice is incredibly overwhelming and the January box reviews were mixed I think? I like woody, rose, spicy (not all together) and skin scents - any recommendations?

Magpiecomplex · 31/03/2025 18:05

@Lurkingshark woody skin scent I'd suggest Burnt Cedar Rainbow Doves, which I love.
The January box wasn't representative, that was a selection of collab rejects which they liked anyway, oddments, and things which will launch later this year, so I wouldn't go by that as an indication.

fromthevault · 31/03/2025 18:13

If you like a skin scent @Lurkingshark you might enjoy The Sexiest Scent on the Planet Ever / Fluffy Lemon Top / Warm Sands Blue Ocean / Clouds Illusion or Invisible Ben (although I think that might be discontinued now). For woods, I like Bodhi Language / Pillow Talk / Sleep Knot and We're Not Out of the Woods Yet (all have a lovely sandalwood / musky base).

I'm not sure their rose scents are that good tbh, they tend to be a bit too sweet and synthetic for me.

Sexiest Scent is very nice.
I agree re the rose scents, they do all seem a bit too cloying and artificial. I quite liked Rosa Ribes until my lovely child told me I smelled like a rotting apple. 😂

MiaN · 31/03/2025 19:36

Well my recent trip to the canaries have broken me! During the day I like wearing perfume that is little bit like violet candy (but fresher) Gucci Guilty Love and at night - full juicy sweet fruit blast - Escada Bali Paradise. This is so not like me!

Lurkingshark · 31/03/2025 19:56

Thanks @Magpiecomplex @fromthevault it has helped narrow it.

TBH I’m not sure why I’m asking as I have enough scent for at least 5 years and 4 discovery kits on my list - but I like the stories around the different perfume houses.

IDontHateRainbows · 31/03/2025 21:20

Replica afternoon delight tonight. It's supposed to smell like a Madeleine! It's not far off, I definitely smell baking.
Also got the cult floral edit, will sell most on but did try the new kayali rose scent, which was nice and I'm.not usually a rose fan. Hoping not everything sells and I'm forced to keep something, nothing from the floral edit initially appealed but tye rose took me by surprise so maybe I'm ready for florals

Tea and biscuits sounds lovely! I do like a good tea scent

Zoetrope1 · 01/04/2025 05:32

@MiaN it must be the holiday vibes!

@IDontHateRainbows i love sandalwood temple. I’m on my second 5ml bottle and just ordered another off vinted!

Poets of Berlin for me today, an easy to wear and enjoyable green vanilla.

IDontHateRainbows · 01/04/2025 05:35

Poets of Berlin sounds interesting. Never got into vilhelm, wish they did a discovery box. Smoke show sounds interesting too.

For sure holiday vibes, I am going full on pina colada with St Barts today. in office and have face to face meetings! Hopefully as body and hair spray is not too intense but meetings are in open space vs room in open plan building so should be ok.

I have not been tempted to buy full bottle of Miami glow as I like the St Barts even more but I have a feeling the 10ml I bought last week is now little stronger so I may reconsider. I will use it on Thursday maybe.

IDontHateRainbows · 01/04/2025 07:51

Hera Reigns today. I always wear this when I want to feel strong and confident at work. I'm on a fixed term contract that they haven't extended yet, so it's an anxious time although I'm trying to keep a lid on it. Maybe the hera reigns will help !

Interestingly the Vyrao range markets itself as having an impact on mood and confidence - at first I thought it was just marketing shite but maybe there is something in it? I recently got some minis in the cult edits, so have a few of them around. Has anyone used them and found the mood-impacting stuff holds true?
