Bal D'Afrique for today, because I just want to smell good. Few face to face meetings in work

IDontHateRainbows · 19/03/2025 08:39

Commodity moss today from the cult haul. Not my usual scent but experimenting with samples all part of the fun! Can't decide how much I like it. It's green and spring like, the opposite of the heavy vanillas of late. OK for the day but nothing I'm yearning to put in my collection.

Got my cult beauty edit and I’m wearing nest indigo which was the one I was most looking forward to trying. Really like it so far, fresh and figgy with a lovely tea note, nice for spring. Interested to see how it develops

paristotokyo · 19/03/2025 10:45

So I couldn’t resist testing a few others and really like commodity moss and Jo by Jo loves upon first sniff. Will try on skin properly another day. Happy with this edit! I was second guessing whether I should cancel the order but there’s some really nice freshies in there

IDontHateRainbows · 19/03/2025 11:08

Indigo sounds great - I haven't tried it yet as i'm spacing them out. I do like a good fig scent though - DS & Durga Debaser is a firm fave.

Really impressed with the cult boxes, a good mix of the larger samples and the 2ml ones. Sometimes the small ones are great just to try something you'd never usually go for. I have to try hard not to fall in love though.

maison Crivelli Nasimba from an advent. Woof! Powerful and it made me sneeze and heavy on the neroli.

Not sure about keeping this as it’s a 50ml. 3 hours in so will reserve judgement for the evening.

paristotokyo · 19/03/2025 14:53

Picked up Elizabeth Arden green tea edp 30ml from tkmaxx for £6. It’s quite a simple fragrance but I think it’ll work so well for the hot/humid weather that we will have so rather pleased with it. I’m really loving tea scents at the moment. Indigo still going strong from earlier. It was intially very tea heavy (which I loved) but has mellowed out slightly. I love it and will likely reach for it a lot

IDontHateRainbows · 19/03/2025 17:25

I'm still at work but my space NK fragrance set is out for delivery - very excited - hubby should be home to take it in. thought these were not being despatched until the 24th. Will post up a review tomorrow. Looking forward to the DS and Durga and Miami Shake.

@paristotokyo I love EA Green Tea too - so simple and refreshing. Sometimes that really hits the spot; shame it doesn't last long.

Kiehl's Musk for me today.

I'm envious of all your new scents; this thread is terribly enabling but I'm on a strict no-buy so I'll have to sniff vicariously through you all!

IDontHateRainbows · 19/03/2025 19:19

Space nk arrived! I'm going to pace myself but first to try is ds durga brown flowers. I'm slightly obsessed with this brand and rate debaser, pistachio and radio bombay.

Brown flowers is an odd name choice conjuring up pics of dead brown flowers left abandoned in the sun.
The notes listed are coffee jasmine musc amber... as someone whose not a standard floral fan this could be my floral... I like it, it's quite true to the name, not too sweet and quite unusual.

My Cult Beauty edit arrived today but I have a cold so I can’t smell any of it!

IDontHateRainbows · 20/03/2025 07:27

On with the JHAG Miami Shake this morning. This isn't quite what I was expecting from the description, I was expecting a strawberry milkshake with lactonic or vanilla tones. Maybe that will come through as it's only been on 5 mins but I'm getting strong top notes of strawberry which dominate. Think more a strawberry smoothie than a strawberry milkshake. Its ok, but just ok - another JHAG that doesn't quite hit the spot for me. Exasperated by this brand as they all sound so good but there's not been any I really rate. Maybe this one will develop as it dries down.

Also tried the brown flowers again and whilst interesting, not one I'll fall in love with. I do like DS and Durga for their creativity, they're not a conservative brand, so even when I don't love the scent itself I appreciate the 'art'.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/03/2025 08:45

Miami shake has improved a lot on the dry down but still more juicy/ fruity than milky or vanilla
I think there's supposed to be some vanilla in there but it's playing hide and seek with strawberry.

I would wear this occasionally for a change, especially in the summer months, but probably would get sick of it as an every day scent

@IDontHateRainbows Could you say more about Brown Flowers? Can't quite get a sense of it from the description. Thanks!

MonkeyTennis34 · 20/03/2025 08:51

I’ve put on Halfeti today….its a fragrance I wasn’t overly keen on when I first got the miniatures box (much preferred Elizabethan Rose and Luna).
But I’m currently loving it…very masculine for me.
Just wish Penhaligon’s perfumes were in spray form. It gets messy!

MiaN · 20/03/2025 08:54

I tried prada amber on the airport. Well it's nothing like I thought I remember it to be, not something I want and nothing like dior abre nuit. It's discontinued and I am so glad I didn't blind buy. One I am happy to leave behind

It's a strange one, in second thoughts I'm not sure I'm a fan. It has amber, coffee, jasmine type notes. The concept of decaying flowers is certainly a strange one.

Conversely the Miami shake has grown on me and I cannot stop sniffing my hand. Still dominated by fruit, mayne the word'shake' gave me false expectations. But it definitely mellows out on the drydown.

One has improved one has gone down in my preference strange how it can take a while to see how you get on

They do a 10ml of halfeti that was in some advent calendars, still may be on ebay? Or a decant service like perfumista?

I much prefer sprays and bought a set of bottles, funnels and tube's to convert dab on to sprays, was about £12 off Amazon

The only penhaligon's I've ever got on with ( not thar I've tried many) is babylon, almost holy grail spicy vanilla for me.. it's not a heavy scent as you may expect, somehow it still feels light and wearable all year round.
If I had to choose only 5 scents to ever wear again this would be one of them.

AdoraBell · 20/03/2025 13:44

That sounds good IDontHateRainbows I haven’t tried any of their perfumes because I get overwhelmed in their shops. Also, I don’t live near a city so hardly ever get to the shops.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/03/2025 19:42

SOT evening is Ariane Grande Mod Vanilla. A surprising choice for me amongst all the niche ones but I really like it. I tend to wear a calming, comforting scent at bed time. This one is just right. Not too sweet as it has a tinge of plum to balance it out.

Have decided I actually hate the ds durga brown flowers. So much so that if anyone wants mine I'll gladly give it away, just PM me. Yes, dead faded flowers was always gonna be a hard sell.

Phlur Tangerine Boy for me yesterday. It's OK, I wild be happy to get out as present or in set but not something I would buy

IDontHateRainbows · 21/03/2025 08:00

It's national fragrance day today!

So many to choose from but I went for matiere premiere crystal saffron. It's a strong one so hoping I've not oversprayed for the office.
Miami shake is in my bag for a cheeky mid day top up although at this rate the crystal saffron may still be going strong
