Am I the only one who loses the ability to buy clothes once the sun has come out ??

I am shite at buying summer clothes. I have a HUGE mental block on it.

Went out today wearing a grey spotty t'shirt and jeans with white ballet pumps and I felt like a right frump.

Winter clothes I can do, summer clothes no, I don't know what to buy, what suits me or what to avoid.

HELP

Snap!

I went clothes shopping for myself (adn the dc) today and came back with nothing as usual.

But I did buy 2 t-shirt bras which actually fit (and were on special offer too). Now I just need the t-shirts!

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 17:23

Oh I managed to buy stuff for the kids too. Only a school dress and school shorts but even so.

I tried on about 10 pairs of linen trousers all of which were too long.

Looked at hundreds of tops and walked around the shop with several, but didn't buy any.

I am sat here now debating over a top I have seen online. Tis more than I would normally spend on a top, but I like it....... or do I ?

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 17:24

This is the top I am considering, but what would I wear it with ??

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 17:25

I am trying to be a bit more girlie and nice this year, rather than wearing just jeans and strappy tops etc.

Mercy · 06/05/2008 17:26

I think it's because in the summer everyone can see what you are wearing whereas in the winter most people dress for comfort and warmth - plus crap clothes can be hidden under a jacket or coat!

Sexonlegs · 06/05/2008 17:28

Like that top v much.

Cream or white linen trousers, or skirt??? Or those tailored shorts are nice too imo.

Ikywm though.

Good luck!

RubberDuck · 06/05/2008 17:29

Oh I'm in this club. Does anyone know if a pair of summery shoes exists that doesn't shred little toes? That's my real blind spot...

Will be taking shares out in elastoplast any day now.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 17:30

That is exactly it Mercy.

I thought of linen trousers to go with the top, but I am having mega trouble finding some to fit me.

OP posts:
CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 17:30

I am yet to find them Rubberduck.

Cracker, are they too long, too short. Can I be cheeky and ask what dress size you are and height?

YouWillBeDeleted · 06/05/2008 17:36

Me too! I spend all summer in jeans cause i just can't seem to buy any summer clothes, nothing looks right and finding sandels that don't kill me to walk in is impossible, every year i say things are going to be different. I also hate showing my legs without tights too.

I am 5'2, size 12/14 on top half and 10/12 on bottom half.

The only pair of linen trousers I found that fitted length and waist wise were in Dorothy Perkins, but they only had beige in at the mo. I want a black and a white pair.

The problem I always have with trousers is that petite ranges are too short for me, but the small leg length of most normal range trousers are too long.

Might order that top later.

Got to dash and dish up dinner now.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 17:42

Oh, and someone needs to tell the shops that they need to stock more size 10's and 12's, because the amount of times I picked stuff up today, only to find that they only had size 6, 16 and 18 was amazing.

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 17:47

Oh yes, I have this too. I feel the pressure to be summery, and then I don't know where to go with that.

I don't really do summery.

I bought that Boden every day dress or whatever it is called, and then of course, it came to the crunch and I ordered it in Black. Black. Not summery.

I could do with some help I think.

janeite · 06/05/2008 17:47

Crackerofnuts - you are exactly the same height and size as I am and I have found M&S Limited Collection linen trousers fit me best.

I hate summer dressing, never seem to get it right, so will be watching this thread with interest.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 18:12

Yep I always seem to revert back to black too.

Thanks for the tip Janeite. I did look in M&S today, but my local one only has a small selection, so will try a larger store.

Actually, I like the dress. I wonder if it made school run summer dress status? Though obviously not in black, because who wants a summer dress in black?

SheikYerbouti · 06/05/2008 18:16

I am always a sack of shit in summer - I look much better when it';s cold. This has something to do with the fact thast I am a bloater.

I am determined to be better at summer clothes thius year though.

2point4kids · 06/05/2008 18:25

oh i love buying summer clothes, i am much better at summer shopping than winter shopping!!

cracker - look for some linen trousers that fit you lovely round the top and get them altered! most independent shops will either have it done for you or will recommend a good seamstress to contact (should only be about £5 per pair ish)

SheikYerbouti · 06/05/2008 18:25

Summer clothes for work are my big stumbling block. I work in an office which is in the attic of a 4 storey Georgian building in the centre of town. The windows (well, the ones that open) are miniscule. Add to that no air conditioning and 100 blokes talking bollocks on the phone all day makes for a v hot environment. I don;t feel right wearing flip f;lops to work (it's wrong, IMHO)so I always get a footwear dilemma and I am of the sweaty, pasty, freckly, wobbly, gingerish variety of English person. Me and summer are not friends.

Where can I get decent summer workwear? (I work in a "creative" environment, so doesn't need to be particularly formal)

Oh good someone who does summer.

You know, good shoes are important in the summer - as always - I need to find some sandals but with a bit of a heel because I don't have good legs. Then perhaps the world will open up to me?

Right. We need summer clothing people to help.

I'd like simple please, cool, flattering but breezy and not black fgs.
