Am I the only one who loses the ability to buy clothes once the sun has come out ??

I am shite at buying summer clothes. I have a HUGE mental block on it.

Went out today wearing a grey spotty t'shirt and jeans with white ballet pumps and I felt like a right frump.

Winter clothes I can do, summer clothes no, I don't know what to buy, what suits me or what to avoid.

HELP

Are you see THAT'S THE THING. Cod your summer wardrobe is built around the fact you have great pins.

I don't have great pins. Hence the problem.

Though I am going to think about fake tan (for the first time EVER) and a pair of flattering shoes, rather than flip flops.

Oooh sorry x-post

low wedge shoe? Could be good. I think I need to be uncomfortable this summer, but with heel shoes.

Trousers? I'm short you see, so 3/4 don't look all that good because they are v. shortening. But I am wearing a pair of linen ones now, in Black. From Hobbs.

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 18:31

Hmm. Bootleg I think probably, or straight. I wear the long and slim Gap jeans - despite being neither.

SheikYerbouti · 06/05/2008 18:32

Some nice sandals would be a fine thing

I always gravitate towards black ones [style void] and then I end up looking like I'm wearing my one-shoe-fits-all-occasions like my Auntie Susan who has been wearing the same Clarks sandals (couples with Berkertex floral print suit) to weddings since 1987.

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 18:33

Oh I quite like sandals. But I really need to wear a HEEL if i'm going to get my legs out, it makes everything look better.

I have some v.nice high pink sandals - and black ones - but they are too high for every day wear.

No, not really I don't think. I don't think any part of them is good. I think they may need to skim the thigh. Is that allowed?

I think I can do knee length - but ONLY with a heel.

You see my problem? Also bad arms. I'm too old. And I sit down all day. [sigh]

But I like the dress I got from Boden. Though you will despair of me.

Do you think wedges are ok for work?

I do have quite meaty calves - not excessively so, though. Ankles are ok (rest of legs never see light of day) so do you reckon I can get away with some nice wedges?

I have these which are v comfortable and give a bit, but not too much, lift. Wearing today with cropped jeans (dark, can't do white) and a tunic top.

Will repeat with various trouser/tunic combos as long as weather is warm...

i'm pregnant this summer and will just wear whatever my mother sends me.

in addition to probably approaching battleship proportions by the end of summer, i live in the sticks and just can't be arsed going shopping for 'summer' clothes when i've yet to experience a real summer here.

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 18:39

Yes Sheik, I think you can for sure. Really, it's all about uplift, but don't get any that cross across the ankle if your calves aren't great. I know this from experience.

it does change things. You need wedges, a tunic kaftak top like Cod suggested and 3/4 length trousers (are you tall?) or a skirt.

Will def consider wedges - I have some green ones I bought last year which are, as yet, unworn.

What about arms? My bingo wings have bingo wings. Long sleeve summers tops, imho, end up billowing around by middle, (eg Kaftans) and I get people rushing up to me in the street to congratulate me on my forthcoming arrival. I need decent arm coverage

I am not tall (5ft) and have the build of Fatima Whitbread

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 18:42

Oh they're nice aren't they? They skim by the look of them.

I am going to look in White Stuff too. I thought they had nice things in there.

i need to find the shoes first though.

Tops then? What tops is Finbar wearing with her A-line skirts? I'm going to go the Finbar way I think.
